Dumbasses, there is a $4.5 billion budget deficit right now. This revenue package only accounts for $1 billion of it. So in other words, there is going to be at least a $3.5 billion cut--about 14% from previously appropriated amounts.

The politicians always claim that if we don't raise taxes, then we have to cut spending on education, public safety, and Health care. It's funny how the only possible things that we can cut are the things that hit closest to home for voters. It's fucking blackmail. "You have to support this tax increase, or we're going to hit you where it hurts the most." It's just a fucking way for them to avoid the hard task of really looking at where the money is being spent. Like most government emplooyees, they're just fucking lazy.

When DHHS and Education make up 75% of the budget, it's hard to enact cuts without affecting those areas.

The blackmail part of his statement was in reference to taxes. It's the government, we all know there is waste there. When the economy is humming, people tend to ignore it. Now that it isn't, it's time to look at where we can cut rather than blanket statements by politicians that it's taxes or things that are most important. I'm pretty sure there is stuff in the "things I care about most" that I really don't give a shit about. Cut away.
