football aside, i'm glad he's ok, it could have been much worse.as far as the team, this sucks, no doubt. but it shouldn't be a season-changer. and maybe we'll get him back a few games into the acc schedule. or maybe he'll just come back in 2010 hungrier than ever.a few months ago we weren't even sure if irving, young, or eugene would be coming back this season.
6/28/2009 7:46:22 PM
in fact, i think players last year commented on how nate improved their spirits as much as their actual yplay on the field.the unit has a whole summer to get over his loss, though.

Irving is/was going to play one more season for the red and white. Instead of it being 09, it'll be 10. All this medical redshirt stuff is comical on two levels. One, he's lucky his injuries aren't life threatening, I'm sure he's really worried about weather the NCAA will grant him a medical redshirt as his leg is broken and his lung collapsed. Two, as I mentioned, he will suit up one more year for us. He's a RS junior this year, obviously won't play this year, and hopefully be good to go for his RS senior year, which would be his last year at the max he will be in Raleigh, and that's if he can get back to his old form. We can't have it both ways in that he will return in 2010 to dominate and apply for a medical redshirt and be here in 2011 as a 6th year guy and dominate that year as well. If he's good enough in 2010, he's out, he tested the waters this year, so this business of a medical hardship seem silly to me. Remember, he's seen significant playing time in about 12 games at the collegiate level and is one of the three best linebackers in the ACC, his next good season will be his last, which hopefully will be 2010.
6/28/2009 7:55:27 PM
I like how you started by completely eliminating the chance of a medical redshirt, then at the end you said it could happen.
6/28/2009 7:59:04 PM
there's still plenty of time for the team to mentally prepare for the season. It'd be one thing if this happened a couple days before the USC game, it's another to have time and use this to our advantage.I have all the faith in the world that TOB will capitalize on this injury and use it to make the defense stronger. When Nate is back on the starting line-up our defense will be stronger than a concrete wall.
6/28/2009 8:01:30 PM
^^The point was that is was foregone that he could get one if he applied for one, but that it'd be silly to think he'd bother applying for one.
6/28/2009 8:08:15 PM
oh man, no more suplex tackles this year?
6/28/2009 8:09:27 PM
no Ernie, i've never predicted a 12-0 season. in fact, i've stated that i wouldn't be all that disappointed with only a better record than last year. i'm sure you'll have the time to verify that. i know you think it's your job to be the "realist jerk", but you forgot to include the rest of my post. i'm hoping he'll be back later in the season, but i realize that it's a real possibility that he won't.[Edited on June 28, 2009 at 8:22 PM. I think falling asleep at the wheel is pretty careless and recklessSorry if that's realistic or jerky
6/28/2009 8:34:24 PM
you're probably right, but i just don't see that as an intentional act or something within his control.that discussion is for another thread, however.
6/28/2009 8:36:50 PM
Yeah, I guess it was his decision to get behind the wheel at 4:30am when he was probably sleepyI'm not coming down on the guy, that's just the reality of the situationIt's great that he's not hurt worse and that no one else was injured
6/28/2009 8:38:06 PM
true story
6/28/2009 8:38:43 PM
why the fuck would you press charges against a guy for falling asleep after he's already punctured a lung and broken a leg?oh, right. i forgot that district attorneys are the scum of the earth.

The cop wrote the ticket, but the DA wont prosecute. Seen it a million times. They will say "its a civil matter" and let the ins co pay the hospital n call it a day.
6/28/2009 9:12:10 PM
^ heard it from the mayor's mouth
6/28/2009 9:13:27 PM
being unintentional makes it no less reckless, if you're driving in a condition where you are likely to lose control or do something stupid, whether it's because of a night of heavy drinking, or because you're so thoroughly exhausted that you can't manage to drive, it's going to be prosecuted as suchhe's lucky to have not hit anyone else and not killed himselfhere's hoping for a quick recover and a medical redshirt available
6/28/2009 9:18:23 PM
6/28/2009 9:45:08 PM
but we don't want to spend a lot of money
6/28/2009 10:01:25 PM
This sucks. His availability for this season is very much in question. Depends on where he broke his leg. A player can recover from a broken tibia or fibula in 2 months, if it's a clean break. A broken femur, on the other hand, will put him out for the season I would imagine. I wonder what the surgery is for. Maybe they put a plate on the bone to help it heal straight. The collapsed lung shouldn't be a major issue with 2 months to go before the season starts.
6/28/2009 10:19:42 PM
Well even if he wasn't urt obrien would've suspended him for the same amount of time anyway. He doesn't believe in hooliganism.
6/28/2009 10:24:09 PM
Fuck off, alias girl
6/28/2009 10:26:26 PM
Hooliganism? Heck we don't even know why Nate was out that late. Perhaps he was driving back from his hometown b/c of a family emergency. And since he's probably taking summer classes he needed to be back at school on Sunday to do some school work or be there for a group meeting. Nate seems like an individual with good character. Let's not go judging him until we know everything. Was it wrong to be driving while being exhausted? Yes. Circumstances may have made it seem like he didn't have a choice though. We've all made mistakes, and many of us have driven in tired states thinking that it would be okay. The same may have been the case for Nate.[Edited on June 28, 2009 at 10:39 PM. Reason : ]

^ and our LBs were young last year. They should be better, and we redshirted a couple that will add to them.
6/28/2009 11:16:21 PM
who?
6/28/2009 11:47:53 PM
Cash being injured looked like it had a bigger effect on our defense than Nate. Not saying it won't make a difference, but not having cash there killed our pass rush

Durr, really? My point was "we lost the three games he was injured" means nothing unless we had only lost three games last season.
6/29/2009 8:29:55 AM
Actually, it means we were win less without him.
6/29/2009 9:08:31 AM
re: Medical Redshirtsplease read my post at the bottom of this thread: http://thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=569814Bottom line is NO. Irving will get no help from the NCAA with a "medical redshirt" or anything of the sort. He took a redshirt during his true freshman year. This year, even if he sits out the entire year due to injury, is just a year of eligibility. He's a RS-JR this year and will be a RS-SR next year no matter what.
6/29/2009 9:09:17 AM
Crap. Always something with NC State. Like we're cursed or something.Sorry, that's a bit selfish. Hope you recover well Nate.
6/29/2009 9:19:59 AM
I'm not going to worry about this until we know the full extent of the leg injury.
