when I was in teh boy scouts, we'd lug a fucking cast iron dutch oven with us on camping trips just so we could make peach cobbler in it.

I cooked my griddle AGAIN last weekend, and it's still fucking sticky. I used it again today anyway. I'm not even going to attempt to wash it. I'm just gonna do a quick swipe, and keep using it on the regular, and hope it turns out.

Via martha stewartHere's the best way to clean cast iron: Scrub it with coarse salt and a soft sponge. The salt, a natural abrasive, absorbs oil and lifts away bits of food while preserving the pan's seasoning. Rinse away salt and wipe dry.

we cook in cast iron when we're camping on the beach and when we need to clean it we just throw some sand and hot water in there and scrub a little bit

We cook in period reproduction cast iron stuff at Rev War reenacting events. The food makes up for the sheer amount of stuff we have to move when we break camp at the end of the event.
