If you have parkinson's, maybe.

I've got a glasstop stove, and cook with cast iron just fine.

I had missed the link eahanhan posted earlier about seasoning (the key info in there? skip plant oils, and season with lard)...I was all excited because I totally suck at the seasoning business, but decided to take a departure from my dad's way (vegetable oil) and use what I had on hand (bacon grease), and then that link validated my choice of cat

...my newly seasoned griddle is sticky just as if I had used vegetable oil

I think I'm gonna try and cook a lot more on my cast iron in the coming weeks, just because I can. I broke it out today because the griddles are all I have that's big enough to cook bacon in

Teflon/misc non-stick cookware is the fucking devil.

when I was in teh boy scouts, we'd lug a fucking cast iron dutch oven with us on camping trips just so we could make peach cobbler in it.

I cooked my griddle AGAIN last weekend, and it's still fucking sticky. I used it again today anyway.

I'm not even going to attempt to wash it. I'm just gonna do a quick swipe, and keep using it on the regular, and hope it turns out.

my mom told me to put a bunch of bacon grease in it, throw some potato peels and onions in there, some seasonings if you want, and bake it for a few hours at 250 or something like that

i cool bacon and steaks in it for the most part...i think i need to try some more stuff in there

This is why cast iron sucks. You're never 100% sure if it's going to be good to go.

i love using my wagner bacon and egg skillet to make bacon egg and cheese sandwiches. you cant get the same taste on anything else

Yeah damn, I sure got pwnt, when I gave decent reasons and everyone replied back with the internet tuff guy answer of "pussy."

Definitely pwnt.

The thing I don't get is that people have problems with their cast-iron shit all of the time and STILL love it. Plus they're super cliquey about it and if anyone has anything negative to say about cast-iron they all circle up around cast-iron and protect if from the heartless attacks of its detractors.

And yes, believe it or not, ms. thinks-she's-queen-of-tww-but-is-just-a-horrible-poster it does have relevance to me. I've used it before, hated it, and am dreading it if any gives me some cast-iron crap for my wedding.

You know, there's more than one kind of stove-top cooking.
Copper may have better heat conductivity, but cast iron has better heat retention -- neither is better over-all for cooking...

Also, cast iron is the easiest cookware to maintain by far.... you must be doing something wrong. You just give it a quick wipe and rinse, and you're done.

Yeah, that was a logical and non-combative response to what I had written.

#1) Copper and cast iron perform differently, no fucking shit. Not part of the argument though.
#2) I disagree with having to season something and keep it seasoned with animal fat or vegetable oil that can go bad and leave the pan sticky as fuck/and or dangerous to use
#3) Oh wow, being called a pussy, great callout

Learn to fucking read and stop being such a fucking idiot.

If anyone can tell me why I would want cookware that has to be specially taken care of, has the definite chance of rusting, is overpriced and weighs a metric assload, please fucking tell me.

Here's the best way to clean cast iron: Scrub it with coarse salt and a soft sponge. The salt, a natural abrasive, absorbs oil and lifts away bits of food while preserving the pan's seasoning. Rinse away salt and wipe dry.

we cook in cast iron when we're camping on the beach and when we need to clean it we just throw some sand and hot water in there and scrub a little bit

We cook in period reproduction cast iron stuff at Rev War reenacting events. The food makes up for the sheer amount of stuff we have to move when we break camp at the end of the event.
