I don't think anyone kicks it 90 feet vertical70 maybe

Probably overkill...but"The parabolic path of a football can be described by these two equations: y = Vyt - 0.5gt2 x =Vxt y is the height at any time (t) Vy is the vertical component of the football's initial velocity g is acceleration due to Earth's gravity, 9.8 m/s2 x is the horizontal distance of the ball at any time (t) Vx is the horizontal component of the football's initial velocity To calculate the hang-time (ttotal), peak height (ymax), and maximum range (xmax) of a punt, you must know the initial velocity (V) of the ball off the kicker's foot, and the angle (theta) of the kick. The velocity must be broken into horizontal (Vx) and vertical (Vy) components according to the following formulas: Vx = V cos(theta) Vy = V sin(theta) The hang-time (ttotal) must be determined by one of these two formulas: Ttotal = (2Vy/g) Ttotal = (0.204Vy) Once you know the hang-time, you can calculate maximum range (xmax):xmax = Vx ttotal You can calculate the time (t1/2) at which the ball is at its peak height: t1/2 = 0.5 ttotal And you can calculate the peak height (ymax), using one of these two formulas: ymax = vy(t1/2) - 1/2g(t1/2)2 ymax = vy(t1/2) - 0.49(t1/2)2 For example, a kick with a velocity of 90 ft/s (27.4 m/s) at an angle of 30 degrees will have the following values: Vertical and horizontal components of velocity: Vx = V cos(theta) = (27.4 m/s) cos (30 degrees) = (27.4 m/s) (0.0.87) = 23.7 m/s Vy = V sin(theta) = (27.4 m/s) sin (30 degrees) = (27.4 m/s) (0.5) = 13.7 m/s Hang-time: Ttotal = (0.204Vy) = {0.204 (13.7m/s)} = 2.80 s. Maximum range: xmax = Vx ttotal = (23.7 m/s)(2.80 s) = 66.4 m 1 m = 1.09 yd xmax = 72 yd Time at peak height: T1/2 = 0.5 ttotal = (0.5)(2.80 s) = 1.40 s Peak height: Ymax = Vy(t1/2) - 0.49(t1/2)2 = [{(13.7 m/s)(1.40 s)} - {0.49(1.40 s)2}] = 18.2 m 1 m = 3.28 ft Ymax = 59.7 ft "i think 90ft is a safe bet.[Edited on May 28, 2009 at 1:29 PM. CE 215 what
5/28/2009 1:30:01 PM
I posted this in the other thread but I'll repost it here.I really hope they give it some sort of flourish with a local touch, like how the Bobcats did with the Charlotte skyline around the top of theirs.
5/28/2009 1:37:14 PM
Maybe a 35' x 25' foot mural of Dirk's face plastered on the top

hahaha i miss laughing at hcnugyen
5/28/2009 2:28:50 PM
i dont buy that a punt won't go the height of 90 feet, but oh wellmaybe a charlie ward punt
5/28/2009 4:18:40 PM
Sitting on top of BoA watching Sauerbrun boom them back a few years agoI wouldn't doubt some of those went over 100 feet in the airIf I was a punter I was look at hitting the scoreboard as a challengeLike hitting the retrieval cart on the driving range
5/28/2009 4:21:33 PM
exactly, which is what concerns me about a scoreboard hanging less than the length of a bball court from the field

5/28/2009 10:08:15 PM
yes...i've seen the schematics. it will look like the sprint center's videoboard minus the top ring and i think without corner boards between the four large screens.
5/28/2009 11:59:25 PM
not only is Dallas' video screen absurd, but so is the size of that new stadium. Do they really expect to sell that shit out every game?
5/29/2009 1:03:17 AM
^^?

Well according to the blog they are starting today.I don't know if they'll do anything you can see today such as taking the old one down, but you can watch it here.
6/1/2009 7:39:19 AM
The blog says "It's here" and links to the webcam, so those crates must be the new videoboard.
6/1/2009 10:43:04 AM
i wish they would let people go watch them install it like a crowd lol
6/1/2009 10:49:30 AM
I hope it falls and shatters like the scoreboard did at the old Charlotte Coliseum back 20 years agoI don't really hope that but it would be cool to see
6/1/2009 11:45:34 AM
i wouldnt mind if the one they are taking out falls, what do they do with obsolete scoreboards anyway? salvage/scrap sale?[Edited on June 1, 2009 at 11:51 AM. Reason : ]

If I owned a sports bar in Raleigh I would buy it and hang it in my placeWould be badass
6/1/2009 11:56:06 AM
they take out the "tens digits" and give it to UNC football
6/1/2009 12:13:04 PM
^hahahanew blog was just posted with a picture of all the crates and that the jumbotron will be brought down for the last time tomorrow morning[Edited on June 1, 2009 at 1:04 PM. Reason : ][Edited on June 1, 2009 at 1:04 PM. Reason : ]

^^^^ the one they are replacing came from madison square garden. I'm guessing we'll sell it to someone else.
6/1/2009 1:29:45 PM
they should put the old one in reynolds
6/1/2009 1:58:38 PM
They should put Reynolds inside the RBC Center.
6/1/2009 2:03:50 PM
... woah. i'd never thought of that.let's make this happen. if i'm going to watch basketball in a hockey arena, i want to watch basketball in a basketball arena in a hockey arena.

A ~20 year naming agreement doesn't seem that absurd.
6/1/2009 3:41:00 PM
^ True, but RBC Centura has been a sponsor for SEVERAL years already. I think they were sponsors way before I was a freshman at State (2003/2004). I can't remember. Either way, it's a good lil' bit.
6/1/2009 3:42:02 PM
6/1/2009 3:43:10 PM
looks like they'll put the old one in a huge box per the webcam
6/1/2009 5:03:10 PM
i hope they keep in one piece...but please do not put it in reynolds.[Edited on June 1, 2009 at 6:27 PM. Reason : not in reynolds]
6/1/2009 6:26:48 PM
Instead of wondering what it will look like, why cant someone just google MSG's old one, or ask a Ranger's fan?
6/1/2009 6:50:22 PM

This is what it is going to look like, except without the Prudential Center part obviously
6/1/2009 7:01:34 PM
I thought I heard that the HD video displays will almost touch and there won't be too much space in the corners between them. That one has an awful lot of space between the screens. I like how the Bobcats Arena's scoreboard has a very small amount of space between the boards.
6/1/2009 10:53:03 PM

I like the large 4-panel display like the Bobcats have better than the small 12-panel display it appears we're getting.
6/2/2009 8:28:22 AM
6/2/2009 8:56:44 AM
They have the old one lowered and are working on it.
6/2/2009 9:30:52 AM
Yeah, there's a webcam.
6/2/2009 9:34:19 AM
