i'm really looking forward to this movie. yeah, there will be a lot of obnoxious hot topic bullshit going around, but personally i'm pretty well insulated from that sort of thing these days, so i'm okay with that. i can't believe somebody said that tim burton butchered "charlie and the chocolate factory" - his version was a whole lot more faithful to the book than the first one. alice in wonderland is such an awesomely freaky story, i can't imagine anyone more qualified to bring it to life on film than mister burton and the actors who typically appear in his movies. they make a good team - lots of directors repeatedly work with their own preferred circle of actors because they work together well and as a result, they get better and better at what they do together. anyway, i think this is going to be a fantastic movie, and i am very impatient for next year to hurry up and get here so i can go see it asap

I liked everything about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... except for the songs, they were terrible. Just about everything else was better than the previous adaptation.
6/23/2009 12:45:09 PM
The begining of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory certainly was excellent. However, once Johnny Depp stepped on the stage, the entire movie shot down the crapper. The entire focus of the movie shifted to him and all of a sudden the other characters were all just a backdrop to his antics. And yes, the songs were terrible. I believe they were straight from the book as well, proving that the whole "ZOMG it was truer to the book, so it was bettah!!!" doesn't really matter in this case.
6/23/2009 1:01:15 PM
I just went back and watched parts of the songs. Yeah, they're bad. Also reminded me of Depp's Wonka. Not a fan either. So basically, this^.

wouldnt she be far too old
6/23/2009 1:27:28 PM
Sweeney Todd was awesome as well
6/23/2009 2:34:01 PM
this movie is going to suck. Burton's style is just really tired at this point.this thread did remind me to re-watch that "alice" video on youtube where that guy made a song out of a bunch of samples and set it to the old cartoon

6/25/2009 2:55:02 PM
hey now...if i could work with some of my friends all day, i would totally do it
6/25/2009 2:57:41 PM
i mean i'm ok with it. its more funny to me. i'm sure they've sat around and discussed the fact they have worked together on almost everything
6/25/2009 3:03:31 PM
oh you know they have...or they just sit around chatting about what they could do together next
6/25/2009 3:07:41 PM
Clearly, Tim Burton needs to direct the new Batman with Depp as The Joker
7/17/2009 1:33:12 AM
7/17/2009 7:10:08 AM
Because it is compared with Nightmare Before Christmas, which is amazing.
7/17/2009 9:23:14 AM
so pumped about this
7/17/2009 8:19:12 PM
http://www.trailerspy.com/trailer/4697/Alice-in-Wonderland-Teaser-Traileri wasn't really looking forward to this at all, but after seeing this i'm a little more hopeful, though i still think the way the mad hatter looks is unbelievably awful
7/22/2009 9:46:51 PM
meh. prefer it be american mcgee's still.
7/22/2009 10:41:53 PM
looks better than I was expecting, but after Charlie and the Chocolate Factory I try not to get too excited
7/22/2009 11:27:15 PM
You have a good point about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (even though I think it's still pretty good )but the previews for this look much better (and more appealing) than Charlie and the Choc Factory did.. I'm pretty excited now This was one of my favorite stories of all time so I hope he does a good job with it!And the Cheshire Cat looks creepy!!! but it is Tim Burton so I don't know why I'm so shocked about that haha
7/23/2009 8:15:02 AM
lovely
7/23/2009 8:43:39 AM
i think that looks really, really fucking cool.
7/23/2009 8:58:35 AM
7/23/2009 9:00:37 AM
this is definitely darker than charlie and the chocolate factory.... which is part of the reason why i'm so excited
7/23/2009 9:56:27 PM
I really wish that Tim Burton was directing American McGee's "Alice" instead of this.
7/24/2009 3:46:10 AM
^3 I had the costume on the right for Halloween of my sophomore year... My whole suite went as Disney characters. (One of them had the costume on the left)

oohh..i like those little halloween costumes...sexy! Or fun for "role-playing" hahahah
3/3/2010 1:45:49 PM
if they insist on making a Pirates 4 with Depp they might as well let Burton direct that too.
3/3/2010 1:52:24 PM
Intersted to see what ppl thought of the 3D version or IMAX 3D...I'm not sure if I want to see it that way or not
3/6/2010 9:26:42 AM
Verdict? How much of a role does the Mad Hatter play? Small role, I'll see it. Large role, definite skip. After Charlie and the Chocolate Factory I can no longer stomach another Tim Burton directed Johnny Depp. From what little I've seen, the Mad Hatter role looks to be more of the same.[Edited on March 6, 2010 at 9:52 AM. I enjoyed it. and I have to agree that Corpse Bride was a major letdown, and Sleepy Hollow just sucked.
3/6/2010 1:14:47 PM
kinda lame... not real adventurous if you ask me
3/6/2010 4:40:24 PM
I enjoyed it overall but a few things annoyed me:The Red Queen - I know she is supposed to have a big head but it just didn't look right. The White Queen - Jesus, everything else was white, why not take care of those great bushy eyebrows? The Red Knight - His movement were so jerky, was his body animated as well? I can understand when he is riding on the animated horse but when he is simply moving around the castle, it seems jerky, even compared to other animated characters. The Madhatter dance - The music accompanying this dance felt so fucking out of place from the entire movie, I cringed.I saw it in Disney 3D (Dolby?) and was disappointed from a 3d aspect. I saw Coraline in RealD and thought it was great and I expected the same since I heard the two digital standards (Dolby and RealD) were very similar, but that wasn't the case. Maybe the IMAX 3D is better, but I think the IMAX glasses are uncomfortable. They dug into my nose throughout Avatar, which is why I opted for Disney 3D.
3/6/2010 7:29:53 PM
i saw it in imax 3d.and i fell asleep during the middle. sorry, it was a long week.
3/7/2010 12:02:36 AM
saw it in 3d, it was alright, not necessary to see in 3-d, but why not unless you really can't afford the extra buck or 2, Depp was probably my least favorite part, couldn't understand what he was saying half the time, and as i've previously said in this thread, i just hate the look they gave him.
3/7/2010 12:54:34 AM
Saw it in 2D, enjoyed it. Really liked Cheshire the Cat. I agree the Mad Hatter was hard to understand. Some good laughs and I liked the overall look of the movie.
3/7/2010 1:16:40 AM
It was alright, worth seeing I guess.Toy Story 3 preview was the best part of the movie.
3/7/2010 3:55:12 AM
i actually thought a lot of the speech was hard to understand. it was EQ'ed oddly.
3/7/2010 9:37:33 AM
I loved it I actually liked the Mad Hatter and the way he talked - I liked how he kept switching his accent. And the Red Queen's assistant (bodyguard? whatever) was animated.. you could tell by how tall her was (at least that's what it seemed like to me).
3/7/2010 1:58:22 PM
3/7/2010 2:30:37 PM
The only movie I ever fell asleep in was James and the Giant Peach. I'm pretty sure that had more to do with driving up to DC during the twilight hours, having a full day of it, and capping it off with a movie before driving home that same night.
