Bill Ayers was, in fact, the man. Also, is anyone honestly surprised that stuff is already sliding down the slippery slope of "terror"? I am surprised the definition of "citizen" hasn't been expanded to include "terrorist" already.

^^^ What relevance does Bill Ayers have right now? Is he a threat?

^ I actually came here wondering if that had been posted. He was one of salisburyboy's heroes towards the end of his downward spiral and I still check his website for a bit of comic relief. The guy is a nutcase who often makes up stories hoping that one will pan out and he'll gain some credibility. He also devotes a good portion of his site to attempting to incite others to do crazy shit in the name of the white race. He's too much of a pussy to get his hands dirty, so he just keeps his fingers crossed that someone else will do it for him and then when the angry white people overthrow the government he'll be looked up to as a leader.Anonymous ran a pretty hilarious campaign against him a few years back.

The juxtaposition of the 2 things was intended to promote violence. I don't think free speech clause allows for the inciting of violence. The intent, to me, seems pretty clear.
7/7/2009 4:16:37 PM
#1, from just that excerpt, it doesn't sound like the guy is "inciting violence."#2, inciting violence would be the crime, not the speech.#3, I'm not very comfortable with the "he pushed me over the edge" spiel. Seems like bullshit, if you ask me.
7/7/2009 6:41:46 PM
saying "so and so deserves to die, someone should get them" - free speechsaying "so and so deserves to die, someone should get them, here's their address, phone number, etc.." - inciting? perhaps
7/7/2009 6:56:24 PM
it's despicable, but i dunno.
7/7/2009 6:58:23 PM
What do you think his intent was there, with that statement? What reason would be to post that information, in that context? It's not like he was saying "hey write this guy a letter, here's the address."If you see some arab guy with a turban running around screaming "allah akbar" with a trigger in his hand, what would you think his intent was? You don't wait until after he presses the trigger and say "ooooohhh, THAT'S what he was talking about!" This is practically the same thing.
7/7/2009 8:24:12 PM
i think its extremely dangerous to begin saying what someone's intent is and then judge them on that. but, that's just me
7/7/2009 9:19:23 PM
He's constantly saying that people should commit specific violent acts and describing the way to go about doing them, though never saying anything along the lines of "this person will die." However, when federal judge Joan Lefkow's husband and mother were murdered he placed a large picture of her on his website with the caption "GOTCHA!"There's a clear pattern of intent, but he's done a pretty good job of dancing around the law. I'm really not sure how I feel about prosecuting someone who's too much of a pussy to carry out his own will.
7/7/2009 9:57:26 PM
^^ are you kidding? We judge peoples' intents all the time. It's the backbone of our judicial system.

Belated Anger Over the Stupidity of this Thread Follows: This thread is nuts, son. For *8 fucking years*, the patriotism of Democrats/Liberals/"Progressives" was questioned by the Bush administration at every turn, not to mention the nutbag pundocracy (thanks Schmore for the Coulter reference). Yet a report on the legit threat of domestic terrorism raises your fucking eyebrows!? Shhhhiiittt.Like it or not, domestic terrorism has been a problem. And some of that threat comes from right wing extremists (why has Timothy McVeigh not been mentioned). That's just the facts jack. There is no reason to think you will get pulled over for having a fucking RON PAUL BUMPERSTICKER!!STOP OVER REACTING!!!thnx. [Edited on August 4, 2009 at 4:57 PM. In the past we've seen plenty of people causing noisy disruptions at political events get tased and dragged away. No that I'm saying I want that to happen with these particular kooks, but they do seem to be getting a pass. Why?Is post-Bush America less tase-happy?

There are multiple crimes where intent is the actual crime. Possession of paraphernalia laws exemplify this. What's the difference between an legal tobacco pipe and a bowl? You intend to smoke illegal substances in one, and not the other (theoretically).
8/10/2009 7:04:06 PM
and yet, again, the intent is still not the crime by itself. You know, kind of my point. durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
8/10/2009 7:09:29 PM
8/10/2009 7:57:42 PM
^^ your point is that remote mind reading technology hasn't been invented yet?Clearly the law is written to target intent. If you're arguing that you're arrested for the possession of the bowl, and not the intent to smoke, then you are more naive than i figured (actually, you are about as naive as I figure). How ridiculous would it be for lawmakers to make it illegal to "intend" to smoke illegal drugs? They skirt this obviously logically flawed position, by using proxies for intent. The critical aspect in seeing where intent is the factor is that you can have a device that is functionally identical to a bowl, but not a bowl, that's legal.
8/10/2009 8:02:23 PM
again, intent is not the crime. you sure fail at this. The agreement to commit a crime is the crime. durrrrrrrrrrrr
8/10/2009 8:02:32 PM
