...and that's just the exterior.the interior of the C5 is a travesty. The C6 is tolerable, maybe even bordering on "decent". Maybe.Don't get me wrong, I like C5s. I've thought about buying one several times, and come very close on a couple of occasions. I just can't even wrap my brain around preferring the looks of them to the C6!
4/19/2009 4:19:27 PM
c6. tough call though. I wouldn't touch a vette until I could get a used c6 z06 though. I think I'd just have massive buyer's remorse every time I saw a c6 z06, even though it's obviously in a different price range right now...
4/21/2009 3:02:46 AM
meh, for the price difference in the C5 regular and Z06 you could add mods to a regular C5 that would end up destroying a stock Z06. The C6's Z06's are a little closer to being worth it but honestly I never understood why people paid so much more for the C5 Z06's.

I test drove a Corvette today at the dealer in Cary and it caught on fire on the test drive... OK, maybe that's exaggerating it a bit, it smoked a lot, turns out it was a locked up AC compressor shredding the belt. Somebody doesn't want me to have one, clearly.

I did it, I feel retarded. I bought one with a few mods (intake/tune, I believe it has an exhaust also). It's a pretty ridiculous car. I might take it to an Alfa club event where they have a 3.5 liter displacement/no turbo/supercharger rule, unless you're an instructor... Eheheh...It's such a giant piece of garbage, but a fun and great car none the less. I want/plan to move to a GT3 when/if the 911 sells. Otherwise I'm still looking to swap more parts over. I don't know what to do w/the vette at the moment. My passenger window doesn't work, and there's LOTS of wind noise from what looks like a bad fitting seal around there, any pointers? YEEEE-HAAAAAAAAAW.PS: Sorry Mark. :'(

Thanks.I bought it from Leith a few hours ago. It's a silver coupe with FX4. I think I can actually tell a difference in the ride depending on the mode chosen! :0 It's got a few modifications also. I have wanted to put one on track, otherwise I don't see myself owning it for TOO long. It's got some modifications, and lots and lots of torque. We'll see what I end up doing.
4/22/2009 5:16:42 PM
did you trade something in? after reading, i dont see how you bought a car, with mods, from a dealer, and might want to get rid of it in a few months, and think you are going to come out on top. Im not not being a dick i just would like to know. cause this isnt the first one you have got like this. i understand that maybe you make lots of money, but i just dont see why you want to throw money away like you do, maybe it none of my fucking business, but i would like to understand.
4/22/2009 5:23:03 PM
I've never traded a car in at a dealer, but I've done partial trades with private parties before- mostly friends.Anyway, I wanted (for quite some time) to own a C5, because I think they're great cars, and I wanted to drive one on track, similar to the situation w/the 911. Unfortunately I wouldn't get to drive one without worrying about wrecking it or the like without owning one. It's not a car I'm in love with, just one I wanted to really explore. I don't really loose money in cars, it helps to have a broad range of cars to be interested in. I don't buy something unless I feel like it's a good enough deal. I don't finance, which makes buying/selling a lot simpler, and insurance cheaper. Often times dealers don't want to deal with modified cars, or cars that are more than 4-5 years old, which is mainly what I buy with few exceptions -though seldom from dealers. With this car I had to sign several papers accepting responsibility for the modifications, which I found amusing...Anyway, it helps that I get all parts at cost and do my own work at shops that are owned/operated by friends when/if the cars need anything. This car does for example, the A/C doesn't work...

check the wires that go through from the body to the doors for any shorts/exposed metal. that's a frequent trouble spot for interior electrical issues.the wind noise could be the weather stripping on the targa top or it could need adjustment at the latches. it could also be the window is slightly down since it's not working.is this the car with the locked up compressor? obviously, there's your a/c problem if so. if it's a different car, it may actually work and you just don't realize it. the digital displays are notorious for going very dim or completely out. in which case everything will still work, you just can't see the temp, mode, etc. it's a very simple fix, just requires touching up some solder on the back. or, there are several people that offer repair/exchange services on them for $40-50.who did the tune? if you don't know, i wouldn't definitely recommend having it checked by one of the two reputable lsx shops in the area. there's a lot of half ass companies selling cheap mail order tunes as well as incompetent shops doing poor dyno tunes (like c.a.m. in durham).[Edited on April 22, 2009 at 7:34 PM. Congrats dude, let me know when you pick it up...This is the car that had the compressor problem, I was more asking about where to get parts from, and I think I need a windshield seal, doesn't fit well and the windshield was replaced recently. I'll see about the wires, thanks. Will update here.

^^ I would personally recommend Mayhem for a tune. I'm not going to make it shop vs shop post, so pm me if you need a reason why I recommend one over another.

haha it is sorta hard to picture Ahmet's head in a C5 window. gitrdone!Nah, vettes are pretty bad ass. Just think, Ahmet, for the first time in your life you now have a proper front suspension.

wow chapped ass much. stop flirting with me mangski. ford power all the way.
4/23/2009 1:08:36 AM
It's such a mixed bag. After the 911, it seems ridiculously tail happy. Going b/w the vette and an M3 would be a lot easier. It's rather fast, but after driving GT3s, Type Rs, and the 996, it doesn't feel fast, because it has such a flat power band. Overall, it's just a ridiculous machine. I'd be much happier if it were 3/4ths the size, and more refined. It does have it's appeal though. It's impressive in many ways, but overall I really don't think it's for me.
4/23/2009 1:21:01 AM
atleast you can lower the vette for free basicly

The Type R comment was in relation to cars that "build power" as in peaky low torque high hp cars. The Corvette is nothing like that. I enjoy this a lot about it, you have to modulate the throttle exiting turns, this is subdued in even the most aggressive Porsches. M3 drives more like this exiting a turn, except obviously with far less power. The tune was done at Carolina Auto Masters, comments? I've dealt with them once in the past but I'd welcome other opinions first. I ordered the A/C compressor and a few other things for it today, will update this. I'm getting a bit busy nowadays, so it'll be at least next week before I touch it again.

4/23/2009 10:17:54 PM
Well, the question is if their tune is worth keeping on the car. It runs rather strong, no drivability problems or anything else either, that I've noticed. This car's so BIG! I'm warming up to it a bit...
4/24/2009 11:12:27 AM
It's American, what do you expect? (you know that's what Clarkson would say...)
4/24/2009 11:39:14 AM
midlife penis compensation
4/26/2009 1:51:42 AM
get rid of that CAM tune immediately!!! i would rather have a car on stock settings than something from them. there are some real horror stories out there about work they've done. my own personal experiences were less than desireable as well. if it's the only thing you do, get it to mayhem or rpm soon. if you end up replacing the windshield, get one for a zo6. it's about 5-10lbs. lighter.
4/26/2009 5:59:27 PM
Their cust. service may suck, but why do you say to change the tune? I have no problems w/it. I will have to check where we tuned the last 600+hp Corvette, I thought it was CAM (in Durham). I'll have to look at the records of my Corvette as well, since I didn't really pay attention when the previous owner was telling me about it...
4/26/2009 6:40:32 PM
uh, it's not just their customer service. in fact, most of the time he's a fairly nice guy. it's the tunes that are garbage. it's been proven time and time again. if you don't believe me, just do a google search or look on any of the lsx related boards.
4/26/2009 6:45:49 PM
^what he said
4/26/2009 8:08:51 PM
it's true.
4/26/2009 10:05:35 PM
I've never had any problems with CAM tunes and know plenty of others who haven't either. My f-body has CAM tuning (had it since '04) and the only real problem with it is some cam surge way down low that I just haven't bothered to get fixed because I hardly ever drive it anymore. Now I also know several folks who have been justifiably pissed about CAM for several reasons, but yall are making it sound like his basically stock car is going to spontaneously combust because it has a CAM tune.
4/27/2009 11:16:33 AM
^i can appreciate you not having any issues, but i'd be willing to wager a hefty sum that you'd pick up more power with another tune. in contrast, he fucked up my lt1 f-body six ways from sunday and it was just a bolt on car. furthermore, like you said, the fact still remains that a LARGE number of people have had a poor experience in terms of power output and driveability. i won't even go into the stories of him pulling guns on people and employees joyriding cars/wrecking them.as far as it ruining a stock car, true it's probably not going to happen. it easily could though, especially on something that gets driven hard. not a chance i'm willing to take personally.
4/28/2009 12:30:24 AM
So I drove Ahmet's vette last night. I will admit it was fun to drive because of the power but its still a POS haha.
