this is correct.you also get access to over 7,000 different fitness clubs in the country. Works out well for those who travel a lot.

Looks like the Fuquay-Varina location is toast. Doors were locked and lights were off this morning. I had a feeling this was going to happen b/c yesterday the tv's had 'call your local operator for billing service' on the screens.
6/4/2009 6:21:04 AM
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuckim going to be making some phone calls today
6/4/2009 8:37:50 AM
i dont know what you're smoking but not only is the fuquay location open, it's packed right now i just drove by going to kroger
6/4/2009 5:18:04 PM
Well it was closed this morning, I only assumed the worst b/c other locations are closing down. This is good news for the time being
6/4/2009 8:00:59 PM
As of 30 min. ago the Downtown location has been CLOSEDLifestyle Family Fitness is honoring your membershipscome to the Cary location and I'll hook you up with a complimentary PT session, or if you'd prefer, you can try my semi-private group class
6/12/2009 5:30:27 PM
Fitness 19 - both Raleigh (Leesville Rd) and Cary (High House Rd) locations - also have membership specials for Peak victims.
6/12/2009 6:02:26 PM
Even though their "lunk" alarm is stupid, I've had no problems with Planet Fitness over by Carmax on Glenwood (for you former Duraleigh Peak members) since I switched over from Peak about a year and half ago. It's only $10 a month with a month to month contract lock for 2 years. So no large amount of money up front and you can cancel any time but your monthly rate is guaranteed for 2 years. At least that was the special I signed up with back then.

^come join me at lifestyle stein!
6/12/2009 10:56:53 PM
lol I just joined the downtown Peak 2 weeks agoFail.
6/12/2009 11:49:38 PM
^no no...EPIC fail
6/12/2009 11:50:27 PM
2 year peak memberships < month-to-month lifestyle family fitness memberships. Plus, we've been in business 27 years and have never closed or sold one of our locations.
6/13/2009 12:06:36 AM
To whoever said the downtown one was closed: Was there a sign or anything on the door? Any further explanation?
6/13/2009 12:31:44 AM
They had a chain on their door this afternoon. However, some law enforcement entity informed them that it was illegal to close their doors without alerting their members first. Peak was then required to keep their doors open through Tuesday of this week.Lifestyle reached an agreement this afternoon to honor the memberships of the downtown peak fitness members. There should be a press release in the news tomorrow.

To be honest, I am not 100% sure. We were told the news late yesterday. Call (919) 462-0823 and ask for Travis, he'll be able to give you a more accurate answer. I'm not working today and don't have the latest info on it.
6/13/2009 11:15:06 AM
Just went by to see it for myself. They were open, but said today is their last day of opperation. LFF will accept downtown Peak memberships[Edited on June 14, 2009 at 3:11 PM. Reason : ]
6/14/2009 3:04:22 PM
So will Lifestyle require the 30 day advanced notice for cancellation, or am I going to be fucked out of another months fee in addition to this month?
6/14/2009 10:31:41 PM
I thought they were working out an agreement with Golds?? What a pathetic mess
6/15/2009 1:18:29 PM
They have an agreement with Golds if you went to the Duraleigh location.
6/15/2009 1:50:58 PM
I used to go to the LFF in Cary. Pretty solid gym. I liked the isokinetic machines.
6/15/2009 1:57:26 PM
I called Lifestyle a little bit earlier and they suggested making an appointment if you're a Peak person who is going to be transferring over there, just so they could be sure to have someone free to talk to you.Meanwhile, I still have no idea what this means for me since Peak disavows any knowledge of my membership, but we'll see.
6/15/2009 4:10:07 PM
I tried Lifestyles in Apex last week. For Peak members they are offering roughly $30/month....the gym in Apex is really nice however they really don't have anything different to offer that Peak didn't already have
6/15/2009 5:04:45 PM
They're closing down their North Raleigh and Cary locations too:http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/5354580[Edited on June 15, 2009 at 5:42 PM. Reason : PWNT]

well this is all fine and dandy except that i live in downtown raleigh so transferring to lifestyle family fitness is not really feasible since i'm never in cary. thank you peak fitness for screwing everyone (including myself) over. i might check with seaboard fitness or the ymca downtown and see i could work something out with them. but then i also wonder if another gym will move into that space. rumor has it that 02 fitness has been looking for a space downtown for some while now. i wasn't exactly prepared to pay a new gym start up fee this summer.
6/15/2009 6:26:47 PM
ps - my best friend in wilmington told me last night a new Peak just opened around the corner from his house in the last month. wtf.
6/15/2009 6:27:41 PM
I'm pretty much convinced it's just all a game and they're not really in any financial trouble. They probably just open locations, let it ride for about half a year, rake in the money, and then just shut the doors without any fyis. Then they basically pick up, run to another part of town or city and set up shop again. Most of the time it just doesn't make sense why they close some branches. The number of people that come in/out of them are insane. So I don't buy arguments that they just weren't doing well with the crazy membership fees that they charge.
6/15/2009 7:11:19 PM
Cass - you don't have to go all the way to cary. there is one at the corner of Six Forks and Wake Forest.
6/15/2009 11:18:32 PM
^^^^O2 is like $60/month though
6/16/2009 1:02:27 AM
6/16/2009 8:01:13 AM
^ you proved in no way it is worth $60/month. a
6/16/2009 8:27:48 AM
^^ yes, that location is accepting peak members also. they were at peak yesterday handing out flyers for all their locations.
6/16/2009 8:45:28 AM
Peak Fitness has sucked since forever! Ive been quite happy with my 'Fitness World' membership.
6/16/2009 12:45:20 PM
6/16/2009 1:01:40 PM
I went to Lifetime Fitness @ Regency for the first time tonight, and granted I went from about 11pm to 12:30am so It wasnt crowded at all, that place is really really nice. For starters it's huge, the locker room was pretty nice, and the indoor pools were great....If I lived closer I def. would not hesitate to pay $60 a month to workout there.
6/17/2009 1:50:22 AM
I went to LFF off Six Forks last night w/ a friend and loved it. I'm thinking about joining - she got in w/out having to pay the registration fee... I need to figure that one out. They said it would be $36.99 a month for me to join just to go to THAT gym only. Is that right?
6/17/2009 9:27:31 AM
The LFF Cary quoted me something closer to $25 for one gym when I went there as a prospective member.
6/17/2009 10:00:59 AM
Just a quick updateGold's Gym issued a press release stating they will honor PEAK memberships as well. Be aware that this is, for the most part, misleading.IF, and only IF, PEAK members sign up (AND pay more) at Gold's then they will essentially honor the membership. Same goes for any other gym/fitness facility stating similar facts.ONLY at Lifestyle will your ENTIRE remaining contract be honored
6/18/2009 12:51:33 PM
I wasn't charged a registration fee when I signed up at LFF after leaving PEAK. I was also quoted $39.99 for access to ALL gyms and a 'pick two' between tanning, day care, and cycling. or maybe it was 'pick one' not sure
6/18/2009 12:58:57 PM
Man that guy must not have liked me to quote me the expensive price w/ the registration fee. Dang.
6/18/2009 2:08:34 PM
if RSX left PEAK for LFF, that's why it's cheaper...there's a "make the switch" discount. Registration fees come and go for special promotions.
6/18/2009 8:23:00 PM
^^Just tell them you won't sign up with them if they don't waive the registration fee. Those things are ridiculous anyway.
6/18/2009 11:06:10 PM
I was planning on joining the downtown location this week.Any other gyms close to downtown? I'm near the farmers market.I prefer no contract but need one that offers daycare. classes are a plus but not necessary.
6/18/2009 11:10:25 PM
^LFF has everything you just mentioned. not sure what the nearest location to downtown would be. there are a couple in north raleigh and then the cary location.
6/19/2009 12:15:58 AM
Six Forks might be closer to downtown (off Six Forks road)The other one is in Cary, off Walnut St (which I thought was near the Farmer's Market)We also have one in N. Raleigh off Capital Blvd and one in ApexIf for some reason you come to the Cary location I can help show you around, answer your questions, and give you a free workout
6/19/2009 5:48:12 AM
i'm still not hearing any compelling arguments, except for location (which is important, i agree), as to how any of these more-expensive gyms beat planet fitness (especially if all you want is a place to work out)...$10/month, no contract, price-lock for 2 years (with a $30/year price-lock "guarantee", which is dumb) beats all of these other offers as far as i can tell
6/19/2009 7:59:07 AM
except that it's crowded and from what I've heard pretty crappyIf you want to pay $10/month you're going to get a $10/month gym...if that works for you than so be it. Look at how "cheap" PEAK was...out of business and broke STILL selling memberships as of last Saturday knowing they were going to be closed. Not saying the business practices of PF are anything like that, but if they're only charging $10/month SOMETHING is lacking.
