I was stuck on Windows Mobile Standard for while, and I still love it for one-handed use, but with the right phone that has a QWERTY and some touch ability, it trumps it by leaps and bounds. I am not a Palm fan, but they just so happened made a phone that suited my needs, and did it quite well, save for a few annoyances.

A QWERTY keyboard is fine, whatever. I'm not sure that I have a preference right now. I don't like those huge blackberries or the Windows Mobile phones that have the same look. I have no issue using a touchscreen keyboard though. I think the iPhone works pretty well for typing, and the blackberry Storm.I really don't want a Blackberry though because they're too expensive and I don't think I can do enough of it, and the iPhone I just don't really like Apple stuff that much. I don't really like the way they do a lot of things, but I don't think they're evil...
4/2/2009 11:49:14 AM
true. i'm not sure how it handles other langauges. i know you can pick from a ton of different languages for the keyboard but i'm not sure the spell checker changes with it. i would assume it does..hell let me try hold on

What I want to be able to do the most is browse the web and check email fast and easy, use various apps like weather, etc. and GPS would be huge as well. Sounds like the iPhone has the best GPS around. I'm not sure about where Windows Mobile is with this.
4/2/2009 11:50:56 AM
Charging extra for text and has text packages that forces most people to spend an extra 20/month, and you CANNOT even picture message legitimately is not evil?^ GPS in Treo Pro is on point like mofo. I can even use Gmaps, and it land right on TOP my apt. No joke.[Edited on April 2, 2009 at 11:52 AM. Reason : /]

mms is going to be fixed in a month or two so that's really not an issue. and yes i switched to french and messed up a few words and it picked them up fine in french.. so that works righ
4/2/2009 11:53:10 AM
Yeah, but they charge you for texting absurdly, so I am sure they will charge for MMS, with a ridiculous price.

Lets see, they have the highest price hardware for no reason, they Stuck iPhone users to one carrier and shafted you with prices, no subscription service for iTunes - should I keep going?^ That's why I told him my Pro does it well. From what I can tell, most devices with Windows Mobile Professional has great GPS capabilities.[Edited on April 2, 2009 at 12:00 PM. Reason : /]

i don't think they'll charge for MMS. not to mention that blaming apple for that is retarded. they aren't the ones selling the service.
4/2/2009 11:58:27 AM
I know its At&t mostly, but Apple has an influence on it I would bet.

Apple is taking advantage of their market share by charging a premium for stuff. I don't think its evil, its just business.Anyway, I am currently a customer with Alltel so that's one reason I am looking at the HTC Touch Pro. I think that the data plan would be too expensive though per their website. I think I will go in there and check out the phone and see what kind of deal I can get.But right now I think I am leaning towards the G1 as far as what I really want. I'm just skeptical to switch over to T-Mobile. I'm also skeptical of having the very first iteration of the Android Phone.
4/2/2009 1:42:04 PM
Its evil, don't be fooled.
4/2/2009 1:45:39 PM
^^^Yes, if he knew you existed I'm sure he would. But then he'd just brush it off as silly trolling
4/2/2009 2:30:45 PM
so who has the cheapest plan with the most options? going into a store and haggling with a service rep may be the best way to get more details but want to see what kind of deals everyone here has.
4/2/2009 2:35:41 PM
^ I'd like to know this too. Seems like the prices are all over the place and they are not correlated with the service that goes with them.

^lol...I know it can sometimes be confusing when both the product and service provider both have the letter 'A' in their names but I assure you they are two different companies.

Two companies that are working together with something they KNOW they can take advantage of...

Any opinions on the Samsung Omnia? I've finally been freed from my Sprint contract and am looking to move to Verizon Wireless now. Thinking about the CDMA version (i910).
4/2/2009 4:16:29 PM
I've toyed with it. Its has a very responsive screen orientation, its not to bad when it comes to typing, the 5mp camera does quite well for a phone camera, has threaded texting. I don't know a lot about what the hardware, or whats unlocked on it, like GPS for example, but overall my 30 mins with it left me with an impression of almost buying it, but I'm not a fan of full-touch screen devices. I will say that if you are not use to Windows Mobile, it can be frustrating in the beginning, but once you get use to it, its well worth the effort. I could recommend, but not highly recommend, for this reason, unless you have previously owned a smartphone. Also, for web browsing, it does NOT have the newest version of mobile IE (which is not great but decent) but you can get Skyfire or Opera and be OK.

if you don't like capitalism perhaps you should relocate some where else. *shrug*

seedless does palm pro have threaded texting? too lazy to look it up. and sorry already a sprint user

what's better the Samsung Omnia or the HTC Diamond if you were just going with a touch screen phone with Windows Mobile? I haven't decided on Windows Mobile, but just curious which one you guys would prefer.By the way, I can't get a new phone until July anyway since that's when my contract is out. Anything coming out around that time that better?

iphone

^^ diamond for the touchflo interface. Granted you can put touchflo 2d on the omnia with a little extra work. And the Diamond 2 and Touch Pro 2 are supposed to be out later this year.[Edited on April 3, 2009 at 9:49 AM. Reason : ]

^i like the body of the phone...pretty slick. Glad to see other companies adopting apples UI. Although their top task bar needs some rethinking. Icons are way too big and over powering for just being status icons.
4/3/2009 12:19:11 PM
Did you even read the article? And on a side note: The iphone sucks. The only good thing about it is how user friendly it is. A windows mobile phone would be far more customizable and productive. I love my Touch Pro. I spend a lot of time messing with it and tweaking it to make it better each day but it is a great phone.
4/3/2009 12:23:06 PM
4/3/2009 12:36:57 PM
^^ Something this is more "user friendly" IS going to be more productive for most people. If Windows Mobile was any good, it would have taken off at some point in the ~10 years it was out before the iPhone.

I mean, I'm not going to shit on WM phones, I considered getting one for the longest time. But the iPhone does everything I ever wanted out of a WM phone, and does it muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch better. I'm sure there are things that WM phones do that the iPhone doesn't (and vice versa) but they aren't things I care about.
