they'll have to cut some kids and he'll have to compete for time with Orton for that to happen. Wouldn't be surprised though.

That would be funny as shit if Calipari plays Kentucky the way he played us. Of course, the funniest part is that the school getting played the most is Memphis. I'm all for renegotiating and getting as much money as you can, but there is something to be said for some basic loyalty and not shopping offers every two years.ROFL..from the UK board
3/30/2009 5:23:52 PM
Calipari has no loyalty to Memphis. I remember him talking on several occasions about how close he was to coming here. Why even discuss that after you say no?
3/30/2009 5:25:46 PM
Clearly, and that's why he comes off as a fucking sleazeball when he does shit like that.
3/30/2009 5:28:24 PM
^^You gotta really sell it so when you do the same shit two years from then everyone will believe you.

I would rather him take Wall with him than have him end up at Duke.
3/30/2009 10:09:10 PM
Carolina doesn't have nutjob fans because they usually win. Once they start losing, if that ever happens, look out. Just ask Doh. National Coach of the year one season, chased out two years later.
3/30/2009 11:21:41 PM
well there was a TON of shit going on behind the scenes with D'oh that caused him to be fired
3/30/2009 11:33:28 PM
Like the players couldn't handle Doh yelling at them? What do you think Roy does, ask nicely for them to hustle? You can't really believe that UNC ever backed Doh. It was just used as a way to get Roy back to UNC. I wouldn't be surprised if Roy didn't orchestrate the whole thing himself. The only thing going on behind-the-scenes was a big paycheck to Doh for him to disappear.
3/30/2009 11:35:53 PM
there has been a lot written on how D'oh pissed off a lot people in his time there.

It almost seems as if Calipari is holding out for the..wait for it..wait for it..UNC job."And in college basketball news today, John Calipari was hired as the new head basketball coach at UNC. He signed a 5 year deal worth $80 million, making him the highest-paid basketball coach in the world. Sources closes to the deal said that no price was too high for the public ivy school located in Chapel Hill."[Edited on March 31, 2009 at 1:14 AM. Reason : it's not like it's even a stretch]

then a story breaks the day after that memphis has managed to retain him by offering him a new package that renames their stadium the FedEx-Calipari Forum, and grants him 2% ownership in it, along with an assload of FedEx stock [Edited on March 31, 2009 at 2:10 AM. Reason : ]

^hahabut it would probably look more like:then a story breaks the day after that memphis has managed to retain him by offering him a new package that renames their stadium the FedEx-Calipari Forum, and grants him 2% complete ownership in it, along with an assload controlling majority of FedEx stock.
3/31/2009 2:19:56 AM
wow I just heard the 8 year $35 million Kentucky is supposedly putting up. i'm not sure where Memphis can come up with that type of money.
3/31/2009 8:30:36 AM
^they can'tthat is why I think he is probably leaving. Calipari is a good coach, but probably one of the biggest dirtbags in college bball. He is all about the money, period. I think he is going to Kentucky, taking Cousins with him (and probably Henry) and will have them back in one to two years. And I honestly think he will have them back on probation if he is there long enough. He has too big of an ego to think he will get caught again, or that what he is doing isn't that big of a deal.
3/31/2009 8:37:22 AM
Yeah, well to tell you the truth if I was being paid 4 million dollars a year I would probably get a pretty big ego too.
3/31/2009 8:39:09 AM
^you're righthowever, he wasn't getting paid that kind of money at UMASS when he got cheating. He just seems like that type of guy to me.
3/31/2009 8:50:30 AM
Marcus Camby was being paid off by a sports agent unbeknownst to Calipari.
3/31/2009 9:05:18 AM
leaving conference usa for a ton of money does not make one a sleezebag.
3/31/2009 9:10:33 AM
ObviouslyHe was a sleazebag before this job offer.
3/31/2009 9:14:30 AM
i just don't get all the hate on calipari, he's better than any coach state could think of hiring
3/31/2009 9:57:48 AM
the thing isthey once 'thought of hiring' him...and he gave all indication he would go to statethen changed his mind and got a raise
3/31/2009 10:00:27 AM
There is no doubt he is a phenomenal recruiter and coach. His success speaks for itself. We would have probably been in the sweet sixteen this season if we had landed him a few years ago. On the other hand, I'm not all that disappointed we didn't land him because some sketchy shit happens at his programs and I don't want to go through another Les Robinson-like dark age of NCstate bball.
3/31/2009 10:05:27 AM
So he is just posturing to get Memphis to pay him more or will he go to Kentucky? Conference-wise its not much of a step up
3/31/2009 10:19:03 AM
eh, its easy to say that this year, but the SEC is still light years ahead of conf USA. If calipari went to UK, I think he would have them at or near the top of the college basketball world in a few years and CUSA would be an afterthought on the national scene again. Are you trying to troll Jaybee again?
3/31/2009 10:36:05 AM
^^^I would say he is a phenomenal recruiter (probably the best in the country) and a decent coach. There are plenty of guys that are better at X's and O's but talent wins games.^^CUSA to SEC not much of a step up? Do you realize CUSA has such powerhouses as Marshall, Tulane, Southern Miss, ECU, Rice, and SMU? This was a down year for the SEC, but you take Memphis out of CUSA and it might not be in the ten best conferences.[Edited on March 31, 2009 at 10:37 AM. Reason : ^]

3/31/2009 11:04:30 AM
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=4026848rofl... all this seems too familiar. Meeting with players and they are convinced he is gone. Way too drawn out and public. All kinds of leaks and sources. I am gonna laugh my ass off if some NC State shit happens to UK.
3/31/2009 11:06:58 AM
So apparently what happened is after UK's initial offer to Calipari, the Memphis AD gave him a counter offer that Cal considered insulting. That's when all the quotes from the players and such came out that it was a done deal. Afterwards the big Memphis boosters (FedEx CEO, some other billionaire), basically told the Memphis AD to stfu and had a private meeting with Cal where they offered him what amounts to a retirement package. He'd be getting paid an unprecedented salary for any level of coaching, be given a private jet, etc.... That happened late last night so I guess he's making his decision now. The word out of Memphis though is that he's probably still going to UK.
3/31/2009 11:22:47 AM
3/31/2009 11:28:05 AM
so, do you guys think that Kentucky is pretty much paying for a championship next season?
