random idea, take the piece from one of those singing birthday cards and put it on the bag/container so that it turns on when opened.

Put a bunch of bees in a bag and leave it in the fridge.

Just say that you like really fresh honey if they try to get you in trouble.

Put a live cobra in the bag and cite the episode of No Reservations where Anthony Bourdain ate a still beating cobra's heart if you get in trouble.

(ok, I understand why this wouldn't work with the whole cold blooded animals deal.)

Back in high school there was a kid who kept bumming chewing tobacco off of everybody. Some boys put some pubes in some loose chewing tobacco and gave it to him and never told him the difference. Another friend of mine used to "recycle" dip and would give that to anybody who bummed one. He'd also leave those cans for tobacco thieves to find. Some variation of this would work good for a lunch thief, but they would have to find out after the fact for it to have any effect.

People still use chewing tobacco?

That makes me think of:

Does anyone else find it messed up that if you put laxatives into YOUR sandwich and someone else eats it then you get in trouble (assuming it hurts them)?

How many people actually get hurt by laxatives though? Just do it. If you're worried about it use a different type of packaging than you normally would and make sure some people see you eating the lunch you brought for yourself.

Make something that is normally very mild and put some hot sauce in it.

If your lawyer is good enough you say you were constipated but it's easier for you to take the medicine if you put it in your sandwich.

Anyone who can eat an entire sandwich with laxative in it must have zero taste buds

Be sure that you can't trace the trap food back to you. Otherwise you could find yourself in court for trying to poison someone.

if she stores her food in the break room, see if there's a coffee pot in there. If so, tell her to have a coffee break in there at like 10:38 (not near the :30's or :00's) because this is probably the time of thievery. Hide discreetly in a corner and see if someone heads to the fridge, notices someone else is in there, and then leaves without really doing anything.

Also note if there's other lunchboxes in the fridge, the person could just be transferring within the same fridge while they are putting theirs in and thus will be very difficult to catch. If there are several fridges, you'll notice that most people put their lunchbox in the same fridge everyday. But if one particular lunchbox seems to vary on its destination that may be your culprit. Don't put up any notes or they'll think you're on to them and will be even more sneaky.

Also, if there is ever any free food around take a note as to who is the most frequent visitor and stocks up the most.

Finally,
put your name on all packages.

Wow so she was a little unwilling to go all out with the whole picture of a penis on the sandwich thing right away so she went ahead and got a lunchbox with a lock on it. The thief tried to break into her lunchbox, and, when failing, stole her Tupperware container in retaliation. She reported it to HR, but still, that is a little absurd.
