^^ brilliant. do you get your talking points from hooksaw? I ask, because thats exactly the same tortured logic he used on a regular basis.

its no secret Congress *ALWAYS* has a low rating. Nationwide, people like "their"congressman, but hate Congress.

the 2 years that Pelosi and pals were bumbling about, the damage had already been done of 6 years of complete control of the government by Bush Admin. and If you recall, the 2 years that Dems got congress back, they couldnt get a cot-dam thing accomplished.

Is that something to brag about?

Pelosi is one of the mist despicable politicians I can think of, and I don't know anyone who actually likes her. The Dems would be wise to oust her.

Who, Bush or the Dems? Because as has already been pointed, the Dems didn't exactly try to do much to roll back those harms either.

Of course, Bush & co. did get a few things they wanted with the Democrats' help - like retroactive immunity for telecoms after they broke the law.

But hey, who's counting?

I am so glad even most Democrats hate her too because while I can see the appeal of Obama to some people... if people were rallying around her after criticism, I would be very disappointed

No doubt Bush was quite awful but why does that mean that Obama should be given a free pass to be worse?

Honestly though I don't think it is really Obama's fault it is those clowns Pelosi, Reid, and Frank that are the worst. Obama is just in over his head and is listening to people like that because he doesn't know what else to do.

Remind me of where the point is relevant to passing retroactive Telecom immunity by a wide margin, extending the PATRIOT Act, etc.

Oh wait, it isn't.

Don't let inconvenient facts spoil the narrative, now.

Remind me who pushed for these sub prime mortgages, what got us into the situation we are in, Bill Clinton, plenty of blame to go around, not just Bush's fault, and anyone that claims that = ignorant

Republicans are getting so shrill that soon only dogs will be able to listen to talk radio.

A Senator from South Carolina was on Hannity's radio show this afternoon, claiming that the stimulus plan is threatening our civil liberties more than any government action has in modern history. Would anyone care to elaborate on this point?

The issue is that it's a huge power grab. If the government is given more control over economic affairs, it gains more control over the people. The fact that anyone even calls it a "stimulus" indicates that they haven't read what it really is.

It IS another very unfortunate expansion of government power, but most republicans hardly have any ground to complain. Given the party's policies in the past 10 years or so, they'd do the exact same thing but put a different PR spin on it.

Hardly. It's increased government spending, sure, but how is it a "power grab" rivaling the New Deal, the Great Society, or the (Bush) TARP plan?

oh please give me a fucking break. Sure we can cut Bill a sliver of the blame pie but are die-hard republicans so desperate for a scape goat they will go for anything. I do not understand why republicans who actually care more about fiscal conservatism do not like Bill. With some respects Bill was more financially conservative than Bush and often almost as close of a friend to wealthy America. Grouping Bill in the same category as Obama just b.c he is omg gasp* a democrat is like comparing a Mustang and an Excursion because they both made by Ford. One is a sport car and one is a giant SUV.

Clinton was a lib turned opportunist after Republican tidal wave in 1994. He pretty much did whatever the polls said from that point. It's hard to give him blame or credit for anything.

when did I do anything you said in my post, my post is pointing out that the people to blame for where we are as a nation, is everyone in washington, not just one person. And now we are counting on those same people to get us out.

Yeah, gotta agree with that. I think most political/presidential historians will agree with you, since everything that I have read on the Clinton presidency has pretty much flat out said that after the health insurance reform fiasco and then the '94 takeover, Clinton governed by polls. Clinton started out much farther to the left than he ended his presidency.

This is a very lazy fabrication. It is not even close to believable if you ignore the last 6 months of the Bush presidency. Remember, he was still president when those banks were being bailed out and signed those bailout bills. The stimulus package was under Obama, but the bank bailouts were under Bush for the most part.

^^^ That isn't the worst approach in the world. Sometimes you have to make the unpopular call, because the idiot masses are just that, but it's not a bad plan from which to deviate.

^ What I want to know is this...How come I heard a ton of Democrats/liberals/leftists (rightfully) going on and on about W. Bush's out of control spending, but see them toeing the party line now with trillions of extra dollars being spent on various "bailout" packages?

^ nah - sometimes people need to be shot, and a lot of times rich people deserve their own money back because they did infact create new value -- what i want to see is the same amount of money that goes into those efforts, go into investment in technology that will emancipate us from the slavery to fossil fuels.

we go dollar for dollar on that front, and i say we'll be out of those godforsaken hellhole deserts in no time. and sooner rather than later, those investments will make the Suez Canal and Straits of Hormuz moot points - there will be no need for crusades. our silk road is over the Pacific in massive airfleets powered by something other than fossil fuels. technology will set us free.
