I know someone that I could recommend. I've never had him personally do photos of me, but he did my friend's wedding and we're very close. A few samples? These are some of my favorites (and yes, some of these are peoples high school senior photos). And, keep in mind I've uploaded them to TWW, so grainyness galore! And, one of my favorite things he does is instead of photoshopping, is he plays with light. I, being a complete point and shoot, find this incredibly awesome.[Edited on February 16, 2009 at 11:19 PM. Reason : Wrong image, my bad.]

3rd pic is the best, I love it a lot, the other ones are just ok. Too much void on the 1st pic, maybe a good idea if it's part of a layout design. 2nd is nice and I like the soft portrait lens look, but I'd try to control the light falling on the dress at the bottom a little better, then it would be perfect. 3rd, I'd add maybe a little more fill light with a reflector or a simple flash left of camera to whiten up the subject and probably add more contrast to the scene itself. last one is the worst, but still good. I'd crop in a bit off the top and right. Honestly, I don't like that location nor the door frame coming out of her head. I'd move to the right by a few feet to counter that.

http://www.brettarthurphoto.com/He mostly does band pictures, but he also does weddings. He's very good at what he does and will listen to any ideas that you have for pictures. I highly recommend him.
2/16/2009 11:40:59 PM
He is pretty good. His portraits are nice and he clearly understands ambient and flash control. can't say about the OP's link.
2/16/2009 11:47:48 PM
2/16/2009 11:55:34 PM
the girl on the right (i'll call her Miss 3'oclock) would get it hard
2/17/2009 12:00:53 AM
The OP's photog is so bad i felt the need to chime in and concur, thats some really shitty work. I genuinely feel bad for the ppl that he did work for.
2/17/2009 12:16:32 AM
I agree on the Brett Arthur recommendation. He is pretty good, definitely knows what he's doing.
2/17/2009 12:29:02 AM
anyone that shoots nightlife photographer would be good for wedding photography in a technical stand point, but it doesn't always mean they'd be perfect at it though. It's interesting to see that PJ's are getting into weddings on the side, documenting weddings like a photo story, but 10 years ago it wouldn't be acceptable work.
2/17/2009 12:33:17 AM
Gotta deal with layoffs somehow.
2/17/2009 8:26:16 AM
I recommend April at http://evokenc.com/. We were very pleased with her for our wedding.
2/17/2009 8:36:09 AM
HAHAHAHFucking awesome~!!!I think the difference is I actually try? and let tdub beat the shit out of me when I mess up, you know, harsh learning curve.
2/17/2009 8:48:20 AM
It'd be a learning curve if you learned.
2/17/2009 8:49:41 AM
You don't count, you just hateHATEHATEHATE
2/17/2009 8:50:18 AM
I think people could take better pictures with a slab of stone and a chisel
2/17/2009 9:59:19 AM
It's like he went, Oh holy shit! There's the bride laughing! This moment is far too spontaneous to focus on correct composition! Dammit!

2/17/2009 10:11:50 AM

i thought the same thing seeing that.CLASSY

i would recommend going to one of the bridal shows at the fairgrounds... they have one every few months. its a lot easier to find photographers there bc a. you get to meet them in person and see if you like their personality and b. its a lot easier to get a sense of their work looking at their albums than it is online. plus most of them will have a few proof books so you can see their work for an entire wedding. i found 4 or 5 photographers there i really liked.we are using kc ramsay for our wedding http://www.cvrphotography.com/ because we really like him and his work (you really need to see his full albums to get a better idea of what he can do)we also really liked whiteboxweddings and tamara lackey but they were a bit out of our budget. with wedding photography you get what you pay for, so it can be difficult to find someone who is talented and fits your budget. a lot depends on how important photography is to the couple... some people just want to document the day, other people want beautiful photos that capture their personalities and the essense of the day. i'd say the photographer you posted falls within the first category.

thumbs up it's a wedding! except the one girl on the right is showing you where to put said thumbs. just weird. lolz
2/17/2009 1:47:48 PM

WOWnot cute
2/17/2009 1:59:52 PM
This looks like straigh-from-the-camera weekend photographer grade stuff. I could do better...15 minutes in photoshop would go a LOOOONG way on these too. 80% of these aren't bad shots at all, just need some clean up.
2/17/2009 3:42:54 PM
2/17/2009 3:52:49 PM
Ronny, I think your numbers are being too soft on him... 80% seems too low.
2/17/2009 4:02:33 PM
I'm trying to be more positive. The lack of competence that most people seem to share makes it difficult though.
2/17/2009 4:07:48 PM
What if he didn't have good objects to shoot to begin with?Ok I can't even pull that angle....bad bad bad photography anyways
2/17/2009 4:10:49 PM
haha, from you Ronny, that's funny. You are the gloomiest person I'd know...^The photographer doesn't follow any design sense and has not technical skills what so ever.[Edited on February 17, 2009 at 4:14 PM. Reason : ]

whats with the kiwi tilt in all the photos, is that a new thing or something?

2/17/2009 8:08:39 PM

2/17/2009 8:11:44 PM
there's a mirror in the fucking shotyou dumbass[Edited on February 18, 2009 at 2:12 AM. Reason : HOLY SHIT THESE PICTURES ARE AWESOME]
2/18/2009 2:11:20 AM
^ lol you can even see his head in the mirror.
2/18/2009 6:06:08 AM
^^ I didn't notice that before but now that you pointed it out I can't stop staring at the mirror
2/18/2009 6:06:56 AM
That's not his head, but it's aweful composition and use of scenery, as well as every woman looks blue and shiny and way too hunched over.
2/18/2009 6:07:53 AM
^ This one's composition is terrible too.The least he could have done was crop it to look more centered. If these are his best shots, I would hate to see what the rest of them look like.Someone should send him this thread
2/18/2009 6:12:04 AM
Cheesy photos with women wearing too much cheap makeup + you all acting like assholes about some unimportant pics = the reason real people don't rush into marriage
2/18/2009 7:32:04 AM
The ability of people to stand by such a stupid excuse (and the lack of reason that it entails) likely has more to do with it than wedding photography.Fail.
2/18/2009 7:45:36 AM
2/18/2009 7:58:53 AM
^^^ wat?
2/18/2009 9:09:41 AM
I know nothing of photography, but most of these look like pure shit - it's your wedding - either get a real professional or give disposables to each table and tell them to have fun.At least you'll have a good excuse for shitty pictures with the second option.the smcain's pictures look good though
