the problem is not "pure bred" dogs.the problem is "inbred" dogs.which is what unscrupulous breeders resort to when they don't want to pay stud fees.

inbred dogs are certainly worse. but pure breeds have plenty of problems too.ask my parents' dog's congenital spine problems. (and it was an akc dog)[Edited on February 12, 2009 at 7:23 PM. Reason : .]

I have a pug. I take care of his retarded ass.

^^maybe you guys are right. and i'm sure that plenty of breeders have the best intent. but most people who purchase dogs don't know the first thing about whether their dog was inbred or not.anyhow, my main point is that there is a point to be made about pure-bred dogs. an argument could be made against the practice that isn't outrageous. unfortunately, peta tries to make everything as outrageous as they can (likely to detriment of worthy causes advocating for the humane treatment of animals). it actually seems pretty selfish of these people.

I hear what you're saying; the problem is that the issue isn't as black and white as PETA is making it out. There are plenty of responsible breeders out there that take good care of their animals and use extensive networking with the community to ensure that their animals are purchased into capable families rather than euthanized. The act of breeding itself is no more evil than a couple deciding to conceive if they've been tested to have a chance of passing a congenital defect to their infant. And their "same thing, different species" comment is silly. Should all of our laws be applied to animal activity as well? If we're just animals, surely our natural environment isn't air conditioned homes, automobiles and grocery stores. We should be able to walk around naked and fuck any woman we're strong enough to take. Jesus, these people stick in craw almost as much as the Scientologists.

i think im gonna go home tonight and beat my dog for no good reason.and then i'll tell her, "because i have opposoble thumbs, that's why."and then make her eat dry kibbles instead of canned IAMS for a week.and then i'll dress her up in pink ballet tutu with an umbrella and a hat, send a picture to PETA and tell them to take me off their email list.

^ dry kibble is better for their teeth than canned food, anyways, so there you'll be doing her a favor.

Despite the info in the thread, I'm going to ask my ANS professor (Ange) what her opinion of PETA is. Should be at least more interesting than the (lack of) response from my classmates.
2/13/2009 11:44:52 AM
Ange hates PETA. But go ahead and ask her.
