How does he make it in over the greatest American professional athlete of all time, two of the top three greatest coaches of all time, and one of the most widely known and beloved athletes of all time?"

I took it to mean from NC, not "spent time in NC."

Don't get your panties in a wad.

Michael Jordan is the only college athlete on the list who really impacted the state even after graduation. Mia Hamm did to a much smaller degree, and even though she was the top of her sport, she wasn't at the level of some of these others.

If we were going by talent alone, and impact on the state aside, I would put Arnold Palmer towards the top.

Perhaps a stupid question, but who's the other?

The person who got shafted was Horace Albert "Bones" McKinney. He played at NC State, left for military duty, returned to lead UNC to the NCAA Title game where they lost, played in the NBA, then coached Wake Forest to their only Final Four ever, and left there to coach the Carolina Courage ABA team. About the only thing he didn't do is play, or coach Duke.

Donovan McNabb is the other, apparently (according to Julius' wikipedia article)

Rashard Smith? or Cato-Bishop?

Thread hijack. Severalf of our recent football recruits play basketball too. Are any of them going to walk-on and be contributors?

Oh, McNabb. I didn't know that.
