Quote :
"The FIA has announced it is ready to postpone its controversial decision to name the Formula One champion with a system based on the number of race victories instead of points won over the season.

The sport's governing body has declared its readiness to push back the implementation of the new system to 2010 if the teams contest.

In order to increase the value of a Grand Prix victory, the Formula One Teams Association recently presented a new points table where the difference between the winning driver and the runner-up would be three points instead of two. The WMSC rejected it in favour of the 'most wins' option.

Several drivers have publicly disapproved of the new system which was announced with immediate effect by the FIA's World Motor Sport Council last Tuesday, stating that a championship which rewards consistency with a points-based system is the essence of F1 competition.

On Friday FOTA questioned the validity of the change after it reviewed articles of the International Sporting Code and Sporting Regulations. Several hours later the FIA announced its readiness to revert to the traditional points-based system.

Surprisingly, the FIA claims that it accepted a slightly modified version of the scheme previously proposed by Bernie Ecclestone because it believed the teams agreed with it. Ecclestone's proposition of a 'gold medal-inspired' title attribution system has generated negative opinions from F1 insiders and fans for weeks."

"On 17 March, the FIA World Motor Sport Council unanimously rejected FOTA’s proposed amendment to the points system for the Formula One Drivers’ Championship. The ‘winner takes all’ proposal made by the commercial rights holder (who had been told that the teams were in favour) was then approved.

If, for any reason, the Formula One teams do not now agree with the new system, its implementation will be deferred until 2010.

I missed the qualifying race because I was out all day today..
But wow... I was surprised that the front row got occupied by Brawn GP

So, Virgin Group became a sponsor of Brawn GP.
There is a possibility that Brawn GP may change the team name..related to Virgin Group if the company has decided to buy the team equity.

^^they were saying it was all about the diffuser that brawn and a couple of other teams used. the teams that didn't use it are of course complaining that it violates the "spirit of the rules"

Quote :
"Following a stewards' inquiry, Jarno Trulli has been stripped of his podium finish in the Australian Grand Prix.

The FIA officials ruled that the Toyota driver overtook Lewis Hamilton under the safety car, after losing third position to the world champion by running off the track.

Italian Trulli received a 25 second time penalty, dropping him out of the points and into 12th position. McLaren's Hamilton was promoted to third, with Sebastien Bourdais joining the points-paying positions.

In another stewards' decision, Sebastian Vettel will be demoted ten places down the Malaysian Grand Prix grid in one week, and pay a $50,000 fine to the FIA.

The German was penalised not for his late collision with Robert Kubica, but for failing to pull his damaged Red Bull to the side of the track when requested.
"

Later Toyota filed an appeal regarding this 25 seconds penalty.

watched it this morning. I think it will be interesting to see what other teams do with the diffuser in coming weeks; it keeps the Brawn glued to the track.

I stayed up to watch the race and it was great! However I had a few parties to go to yesterday and started drinking at 5pm. The last 3rd of the race was a struggle for me to stay awake

I was pretty damn disappointed with Ferrari Since BMW placed higher I have to wear a BMW shirt when watching the game next week. Sigh.

Did anybody notice that Vettel was just as fast on 3 wheels as the safety car was on all 4?

They generally do drive as fast as they can so that the cars do not overheat.

safety car is driven at almost 100% because F1 cars cannot go too slow or they will overheat. Basically Burt Maylander, former DTM driver, drives the car and if you notice it is going to slide around. I love the sound difference its like hrrrrrrrrrmmmmmmmmmm then vaaaaah vahh when the f1 cars follow.

yeah, those safety cars sound awesome. Even the little C class AMG wagon they use for the medics sounds great. Its crazy that a 3 wheeled F1 car can go as fast/faster? than a heavily modified AMG merc.

hamilton is a big fat liar....

Quote :
""There was a point when he was doing just 15mph in his McLaren and Trulli had no option but to repass him.

"I think Lewis then saw half a chance of a third place instead of a fourth, went up to the stewards and didn't give them the full story.

"Now they've matched up his comments (to them) to radio content between him and the team, and other information they've gathered, and they've decided that effectively he was telling fibs. "

What a boring race...

AND

I'm very disappointed at Ferrari.
WRONG RACE STRATEGY!
TOO MANY MISTAKES!

It was cute/funny to see Raikkonen having chocolate coated ice cream before the actual end of the race...

i thoguht it was a pretty interesting race. what with everyone having to make gambles on what sort of tires they had to use.

of course i wish that they could have finished it. but whatever. up until the suspension, it was quite good.

when i actually heard the whole story of what happened, it seems a lot more innocent (and to be honest stupid on the mclaren team's part). they got a harsh penalty for their stupidity. end of story.
