I live my life a quarter mile at a time. Nothing else matters: not the mortgage, not the store, not my team and all their bullshit. For those ten seconds or less, I'm free.

just got a z4, i'd be very surprised if you got any kind of lead if the guy had a 3.0si in sport driving mode. the thing will FLY (and eats gas like a mofo). after test driving a few, anything less than the 3.0si is a waste imo.

I think Audi somewhat tarnished their heritage with the S-line. When BMW came out with the M-tec program it was not highly pushed, and really just added some appearance to already well performing cars(540i). However from everything I have seen many S-line owners seem to think they have something far far ahead of a normal A car.
12/26/2008 1:23:54 PM
^^^ haha, i wouldn't say that it will "fly". it's a reasonably quick sports car--basically what it should've been all along. Also, I doubt that "sport mode" feature makes any difference at WOT acceleration. If it does, it would be minimal...a tenth of a second in the quarter or something, probably.[Edited on December 26, 2008 at 1:28 PM. ^^^yes, for example some e36 328's came with M body parts...540i came with steering wheel and door sills, sometimes referred to as "M sport"

what kills the 0-60 on that car is the ratio of 2nd is too high. If I did not have to shift to 3rd to hit 60 w/o going into redline i bet it'd shave a good half second off.
12/26/2008 5:20:33 PM
Well that and the weight....you should look into a reflash.

2006 Audi A3 2.0T 6speed auto-clutch manual: 15.0@93mph (3350 lbs)http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/oneyear/112_0709_2006_audi_a3/specs.html2006 Civic Si 6speed : 14.9@95mph (2871 lbs)http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupes/112_0606_midsize_coupe_comparision/specs_pricing.htmlthat's in Integra type RR territoryI guess that torque got you nowhere there. also, I would bet on a civic si outhandling an A4
12/26/2008 7:35:42 PM
did u really bring up the specs for an A3 n00b
12/26/2008 7:42:30 PM
same stuff, even lighter weight, still slower
12/26/2008 7:44:22 PM
My 3.0 Vulcan would take all of you fools.
12/26/2008 7:46:43 PM
^ I'd hope so^^ to bad the drive quality doesn't compare; and my money is still on the A4 (at least the quattro) for handling over the FWD SI[Edited on December 26, 2008 at 7:52 PM. Reason : l]
12/26/2008 7:51:01 PM
heavy heavy pig
12/26/2008 8:31:23 PM
^^drive quality is purely a matter of opinion. performance, however, isn't. all things being equal, even an a4 quattro would get its feelings hurt by the civic in pretty much any handling/acceleration contest. i'm sure the a4 would probably do better in the snow or something. maybe.
12/26/2008 8:42:27 PM
are we still even trying to compare a civic to an audi?

Generally I look at 0-60, 60-100, 1/4 mile and lap times....
12/27/2008 10:59:02 AM
comparing apples to apples though it would only make sense to compare the civic (sports tuned) SI to the Audi S4.At this point the argument is pretty much a joke.
12/27/2008 11:43:39 AM
Are you planning on looking into a reflash?

^^&^^^ I've dropped the clutch in the 'Teg from 6000-7000 many, many times. Just ask Duke There are many statements in this thread that I'd like to comment on, but I'll only argue one. HUR, there's no freaking way your A4 out handles a Civic Si.Also, regarding shifting when accelerating, having to shift into 5th running the 1/4 mile's a bitch [Edited on December 27, 2008 at 7:18 PM. 12/27/2008 7:18:19 PM
The closest match up I know of is the civic type R Nurburgring times from the early 2000's was slightly faster than the R32...
12/27/2008 7:35:23 PM
If we dont stop talking about the Civic, Im removing this thread from My Topics
12/27/2008 7:38:53 PM
Back to Audi then? Or the Z4?
12/27/2008 7:41:14 PM
Yes, either would be excellentSpeaking of Audi, Im excited about the 2010 supercharged S4
12/27/2008 7:45:51 PM
I dunno, I feel as though it's not really a huge jump from what they have had for the past 4 years. They aren't doing a good job of keeping up with BMW.
12/27/2008 7:47:44 PM
I read an article about it in Evo magazine that said it was miles ahead of the current 4.2L v8 S4 and praised it from every directionIm assuming Audi is positioning the S4 to be up against BMW's 335 inline6 twin turbo, while the RS4 is up against the M3
12/27/2008 8:12:40 PM
Sadly it seems that they are....While the dubed 3.0T makes more power throughout the rev band it is not what I would expect to see out of the next generation of a performance car.
12/27/2008 8:22:52 PM
Although Im excited to see what a supercharged Audi will do - I'm sad to see the v8 go - nothing sounds like the growl of a european NA V8. Unfortunately european V8s are probably going to disappear completely from the sports touring segment in the next few years
12/27/2008 8:27:48 PM
Yea I enjoy the sound of my 4.2, and the lack of additional power in the b8 will keep me from looking into it. Either VF's supercharger kit that is about to be released or an Rs4 seem to be much better options.
12/27/2008 8:30:00 PM
I was actually looking into switching over to a BMW with their 0.9APR advertisements, but the cost for anything less than an M3 is just too much for what you're getting - and the M3 too far outside of my price range. Now Im back yet again looking for a nice low-miles (~25k) 4.2 S4. You said you had a 4.2? Is it a B6 or B7?
