12/5/2008 11:36:52 PM

Oil is nearly at $40 a barrel now, and reports indicate american consumption is still down despite lower prices. It's closing in on $1 per gallon.
12/17/2008 5:14:30 PM

I heard in a 60 Minutes interview with King Abdullah that, barring something catastrophic, Saudi oil will not fall too much farther than $55/barrel so prices aren't likely to drop much moreThis was a couple weeks ago though, and I have no idea what barrel prices are now. So take that with a grain of salt sand. $1
12/17/2008 9:29:48 PM
It was $47 at the end of trading yesterday. Of course, fucking OPEC cut production by 4.5 MILLION barrels today.
12/17/2008 9:41:37 PM
its at like 40 now
12/17/2008 9:43:47 PM
It'll take a few days before the cuts raise the price. How much it'll go up is anyone's guess, but it will go up.
12/17/2008 9:46:52 PM
so will gas start to go up now, or is just for the holidays and then start going back down?
12/17/2008 9:47:44 PM
$1.44 in knoxvilleeeee
12/17/2008 9:48:52 PM
^^^ Goddamn there is a lot of stupid in this thread.Do any of you know how speculation and futures trading works? It means that oil news affects the price RIGHT NOW. The problem with OPEC's promised rate cuts is that they can't seem to enforce them, demand is still falling and inventories are still climbing despite OPEC's recent cuts. OPEC's announcement was expected. If anything, oil is likely to continue to fall, perhaps to less than $30 a barrel before rebounding.[Edited on December 17, 2008 at 9:55 PM. Reason : 2]

Wait, what? How would consumers respond to an INCREASE in the price of oil with more demand? That's retarded.OPEC is kinda fucked. They face major budget shortfalls if they don't cut production, but lose market share if they do.

12/18/2008 11:13:22 AM
i hate going into a gas station that has regular @ 1.69 and midgrade @ 1.79 on the sign, then you go to fill up with premium and it's 2.09.
12/18/2008 1:56:28 PM

With deflation it's not that huge a savings in real value vs. gas when it was higher.
12/19/2008 12:02:22 AM

12/19/2008 12:06:43 AM

12/19/2008 8:09:06 PM
I'm confused as to how crude oil prices specifically affect gas prices. I mean obviously if crude oil goes down significantly, so do gas prices and vice versa. But, is there a certain percentage it goes down per a certain drop in crude oil. I know its speculative to a point, but there has to be some sort of average. Like if crude oil drops $5.00 a barrel, then gas prices average a drop of $x.xx?
12/19/2008 9:26:16 PM
gas is going back down again
12/19/2008 10:07:27 PM
33.87 / barrel
