BigEgo you could probably get one of the fraternities or sororities to take care of the dog(s). A lot of colleges that have live mascots have greek organizations taking care of them.[Edited on December 5, 2008 at 10:10 AM. Reason : ]

Do any other schools have multiple live animals or just the one ?Would be baller if were were the first to implement a whole bunch of them

There's a Wolf/Wolfdog rescue in the mountains...prolly 30 minutes from Black Mountain. Full Moon Farm. We went there in April to check them out--AWESOME place. And they really know their wolf/wolfdog shit. One of the wolfdogs was in Chronicles of Narnia http://www.fullmoonfarm.org/Anyway--you could get lots of information from them on what you would need to properly take care of a wolfdog. Some of the wolfdogs there were 90% wolf, but acted like PUPPIES around a few of the handlers but if anyone else got too close they would pace and growl. It was really interesting.[Edited on December 5, 2008 at 10:15 AM. Reason : ]

well I support the idea but odds are it comes off cheesy just like that fisher price cave we come out ofor it actually turns out good but has a block S with "Wolfpack Club" stamped on its forehead

I support this idea, always have. Here's hoping we can get past all the red tape and bullshit associated with trying to implement a live mascot. It would be badass if you could train [insert badass name here] to run out to midfield (presumably to a trainer with a leash awaiting) and lead the team out. I know that's an unrealistic pipe dream, but it'd be badass. If this were to happen, he or she would have to be conditioned early on to deal with the crowd noise, fireworks, etc. so as not to spend every home game spooked and agitated. The last thing I'd want is to have an animal miserable every saturday just for our enjoyment. For the same reason, I don't support live wolfdogs in cages by the visitor entrance, the visiting team would taunt them and yell at them, which would end badly with me hopping down from section 2 and getting my ass beat.

A buddy of mine went to Texas A&M, one way they keep the cost down for keeping Reveille is during the off season/when class is out, a family in their alumni association keeps Reveille at their home. During the school year the Corps of Cadets (aka ROTC) takes care of Reveille. Their vet school does all the vet check-ups, etc. That is of course considering we get the Tamaskans instead of wolves. One thing to consider is carolina students or ecu students trying to kidnap the dog leading up to the game, which was A&M's reason for keeping a cadet with Reveille at all times. Reveille even goes to class with them and sleeps in their dorm rooms. I went to a game there last year and of all of the traditions that they have Reveille is by far one of the coolest (since they can't have the bonfire anymore).

^would it be counted as ending badly if when we played unc next year our wolves attacked and killed the ram?
12/5/2008 10:54:35 AM
^No, that would be considered a "best case scenario."
12/5/2008 11:09:01 AM
We have a live Somalian pirate going to Tulsa Sat for the championship game... risky but worth it

12/5/2008 1:51:02 PM
seeing a pack of those run out with the team or run across the field during some opening ceremony would look damn awesome.they can also be taught to howl after scores & their howls be broadcasted over the speakers.[Edited on December 5, 2008 at 2:00 PM. Update: I've received emails from 2 of the 3 American breeders so far. The one closest to campus (Elizabeth City, NC) seems eager to get involved if we can make this happen. The one in Colorado wouldn't want to give us a pup for this idea (which I think is stupid because he/she doesn't realize the level of care the university would be able to offer the dog). Anyway, cost of the dog would be around 2000 bucks. I'd probably say start out with one or two of the Tamaskans and see who people react to them and how they react to people.

My dad use to have a wolf dog and I know several people that still have em. They are about 60% wolf the rest dog. Real wolfs are very shy animals but the wolf dogs are more friendly. Some of em are mean but some are good to work with.
12/5/2008 3:00:04 PM
red eyes for the win... thats the one

Yes, because right now they piss themselves every time they see our guy in a costume.
12/5/2008 3:35:45 PM
^^ are you dumb? the point is that it'd be cool. a mascot is not used to legitimately scare anyone.
