My AFS token is only valid for 12 hr periods. is this normal? Can I have the token be valid indefinitely so I don't have to keep signing in?

btw, there's also expandrive now available for win/osx if you're in the coe

i find it to work better, faster, and more reliably than webdrive did

(and it is cheaper too)

product info at http://www.expandrive.com/

download at http://download.eos.ncsu.edu/expandrive/

I'm fairly certain ExpanDrive is available to anybody affiliated with NCSU via the software page.

What do you like better about expandrive? I'm asking b/c I haven't used it (just installed it). It caches the files, which is the same drawback with webdrive. Other than that, I've never really had much trouble with webdrive. Have you had problems with files not copying, dropping connections, etc?

it's all anecdotal . . . webdrive would hang sometimes or just take forever to transfer files.

i haven't seen those problems with expandrive so far, or with its predecessor stfpdrive. i've had them installed for about six months.

it does drive mapping and assigns drive letters and works reliably, which is all i wanted it to do. it's not really any different from webdrive as far as the functionality is concerned, but i've just found it to work better.

cool. I'm gonna try using it for a while. One good thing is that expandrive is also available for mac. I'm pretty sure webdrive is windows only.

expandrive is a neat tool. I just set it up on my windows workstation in my lab so that I an see my 4 linux based file storage servers. This is handy since our sysadmin didn't see the need to configure samba.

webdrive causes dreamweaver the hang if the computer's been asleep

even if webdrive wasn't initialized before the sleep, only after, it still doesn't play well with dreamweaver

haven't tried expandrive (so maybe it's a problem with dreamweaver, instead)

I downloaded Expandrive from NCSU but apparently there isn't a license for it? When trying to connect to a drive it asks for a license file/says I have 21 days left on the trial...

There's nothing about a license on the download page...

SUPPORT REQUEST:

I'm using Expandrive (from NCSU) on Windows Vista to connect to several directories:

(1) /afs/eos/engrwww/bae/topic/kure-beach
(2) /afs/eos/lockers/research/bae/burchell_kurebeach
(3) /afs/unity.ncsu.edu/users/w/wdprice3

I should have full permissions on all three directories; access + permissions were fine last week. However, today, I cannot write to directories 2 and 3; everything seems fine in directory 1. I can access and read all three directories.

I'm trying to determine where the problem is - I've run virus/spyware/adware/registry scans on my machine, un/re-installed Expandrive, and have completed multiple reboots. nothing in the event logs points to any issues (at least what I've seen)

What else is there? I've contacted help@ncsu to see if they can check things on their end...

ok, my license issue with Expandrive is back - I've reinstalled Expandrive 3 times now, and after a day or so it starts asking me for a license and says I have so many days left to evaluate it...

anyone?
