I'm ok with conceding that when it comes to basketball, it is, in fact, their state

for natives, they are complete outsiders
11/12/2013 11:46:25 PM
half the natives like duke the other half like uncthen, there are us pack fans
11/12/2013 11:48:47 PM
at least ppl that go to UNC are actually from NC, unlike Duke.
11/12/2013 11:57:27 PM
yeah well...screw both of those schools/teams
11/13/2013 12:01:37 AM
I won't enjoy college basketball as much with these new rules on fouls/handchecking. We had some great teams play last night, but you couldn't go twenty seconds without a foul called and the game stopped. Annoying as fuck.
11/13/2013 7:16:35 AM
Teams will adjust, but these first couple of months will be rough. I think in the long run it's going to be much better for the game. Basketball was never supposed to be a contact sport. I'd rather watch a game with a lot of foul calls than a 45-40 slugfest where guys are grabbing and checking and beating each other up in the paint.
11/13/2013 7:26:14 AM
^^ yepthe less fouls they call the better the game is IMO
11/13/2013 11:39:58 AM
^^ thisI would think most people would understand that this is a short term hiccup for a massive long term gain
11/13/2013 11:53:30 AM
Exactly. But people gotta have something to bitch about.
11/14/2013 3:17:42 PM
the problem doesnt lie in the hand checking. my big beef with things are all of the anticipation calls. theyre ready to blow their whistle before the play even finishes
11/14/2013 3:19:55 PM
I agree with brick.Handchecks aren't the biggest "foul" issue and the new rules are causing far too much choppiness in the games. They should have done a phased integration of the rules. And the new rules should be consistent between offensive and defensive fouls - seems like offensive players can still push off or lower shoulders and tackle defensive players; already seen that multiple times in just a few games.Where foul rule changes are mostly needed is in the paint - get rid of the body fouls and arm hacking that are so prevalent. Everyone wants to see a bit of a cleaner game and more offense, but is the goal really to be like the NBA?
11/14/2013 3:49:54 PM
there are no new rules, just enforcement of rules that have been ignored over the yearswhat is there to complain about with a more fluid, freedom-of-movement game?college basketball was waaaaaaaay too physical the past couple of years, bogging down an already slow gameand why would you complain about the college game looking more like the NBA, which is the highest level of basketball possible?
11/14/2013 4:34:39 PM
when a bunch of tarholes and dookies don't get away with charge calls, everyone will like the new officiating
11/14/2013 4:37:25 PM
never forget
11/14/2013 4:39:04 PM
11/14/2013 5:04:07 PM
that would be terrible
11/14/2013 7:20:36 PM
how?unless you're a fan of inferior basketballin before "BUT THEY PLAY NO DEFENSE IN THE NBA11!!!11!1!" idiocy
11/14/2013 8:20:58 PM
have no problem with the touch fouls on handchecks being called, but the other night they were calling a foul everytime anyone drove to the basket. it was frustrating to watch and totally killed the flow of the game. if you wouldn't call it a foul in pickup, it shouldn't be a foul in college hoops either.
11/15/2013 12:02:32 AM
what's next? mandatory tattoos and adultery? fucking thugs!!11
11/15/2013 1:22:41 AM
Unrelated to the Holy Cross game...if the officiating changes mean Chapel Hill can't hack their way to "extraordinary" second half comebacks, then I am on board. They just need to stay consistent throughout the season and the tournament. If the refs slack at all, then it's bad news.
11/15/2013 9:34:53 PM
It's the college atmosphere that makes college basketball good.College fans >>> Pro fansCollege band music >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Organ musicBut if the game itself was more like the NBA it would probably be better.
