DEERJERKY FTW
12/2/2008 4:24:09 PM
Just shot bambi the other day. LOL. He was ground into hamburger
12/2/2008 5:23:27 PM
do you mix the deer meat with any type of fat when you grind it into burger? I want to say that my uncles up north mix in pork fat, but I might be wrong. or that might be when they make deer sausage. not sure
12/2/2008 6:00:41 PM
deer spaghetti
12/2/2008 6:04:51 PM
^^ beef fat when making hamburger, Pork fat and spices (sage, salt, white black and red pepper, etc.) for sausage
12/2/2008 6:41:26 PM
For grilling, a little fat will make the burgers juicier. For meatloaf or spaghetti or other things where the meat will be cooking in sauce, can go either way.
12/2/2008 7:33:09 PM
^ I dont understand you post. You need fat added either way.
12/2/2008 8:00:59 PM
I've ground venison without added fat before. The hamburgers were sort of dry, but it was fine in everything else. Do you mean you need the added fat to get it through the grinder? Never had that problem before.
12/2/2008 8:51:54 PM
nah, you don't need the fat to get it through the grinder, but the fat helps it cook without drying out

If anyone do actually get a deer and is interested in splitting it somehow, let me know......

my wife is a vegetarian, and i cannot eat an entire deer in a year.the next one i get, i'll post it upill give you the whole thing in exchange for helping me "clean" it.(*I will probably shoot my next one over Christmas Break, so unless you want to drive to Raleigh to get it, I suggest you live close by)
12/3/2008 2:11:04 PM
I'll take some, but I don't have a place to clean it
12/3/2008 2:37:43 PM
^^ i'd be happy to help...i've never "cleaned" a deer before, though i'd really like to learni have, however, butchered ostriches beforei'll return to you some jerky, if you'd like (and if it comes out well...i've never made deer jerky, just beef, turkey, and ostrich)[Edited on December 3, 2008 at 3:40 PM. Anyone in charlotte know of a similar plan to share? MUST HAVE VENISON
12/3/2008 3:36:41 PM
^ it covers the whole state. you just put in your county in the e-mail and it connects you with local hunters
12/3/2008 4:00:49 PM
http://www.agr.state.nc.us/meatpoultry/pdf/Deer%20Processing%20Plants.pdfThis link is a list of places that will process deer for you. Alot of them, you have to have the deer gutted before taking it to them. Some of them, you have to have the deer skinned and quartered. Just call before you take it.

seriously, if anybody on here helps out lewoods after all the shit she pulled, that person needs to be banned.

^ true datThe deer pictured at the begining of this page probably only filled about 2 gallon ziplock bags.
12/4/2008 12:12:41 AM
thats the thing...i don't eat deer once a weekand i refuse to kill a deer that will go to waste. I have donated to hunters for the hungry, but Sanford is too far to cart a carcass on a regular basis.

I don't know where you live, but I know that there is a slaughtering house relatively nearby that will dress and package the deer for you for about $30.00. I can't remember the exact price, but they do it very reasonably and package the meat ready for the freezer any way that you want it - ground, tenderloin, etc. From what I've seen, the way they wrap it fends off freezer burn well too. My husband's cousin does this a lot for ones that he has killed himself, and he says it's very reasonable for the price per pound that you end up getting for the meat. I'm not sure where would be closest to you, but I'm sure there is a slaughterhouse fairly nearby that can help. Good luck!

god i'd love some venison while on my keto diet...someone hook me up...just got a food dehydrator to make my own jerkyis venison fatty? i need fatty meats like prime rib
12/6/2008 8:31:35 AM
Venison is about the most lean meat you can get. In fact, almost all of the preparations of venison include adding some sort of fat, whether it be pork fat or beef fat.

Anyone have any meat they are willing to part with?
12/24/2008 8:19:19 AM
I have a couple friends that are going hunting this weekend so I will let you know. They have already promised me all the meat from whatever they kill since all of their freezers are already full. I don't have a chest freezer so I definitely won't be able to keep all of it, but you will have to drive to Greensboro to get it.

We've honestly considered taking up bow hunting so that we can feed our dog a raw diet.

^ wrong. Dogs digestive systems are way different than ours, and can tolerate many bacterias such as salmonella and others often found in raw foods. Haven't you ever seen a dog drink out of the muddiest puddle in the back yard? Raw chicken and other raw meats are VERY good for dogs. A lot of champion show dog breeders feed their dogs raw chicken diets, as well as other raw meats.you can leave the bones in as well. since the chicken isn't cook, the bones are soft and not brittle so you don't have to worry about them splintering and tearing up your dog's insides.[Edited on January 4, 2009 at 9:25 AM. wtb: venison...not from supermarket

^^ What he said. Raw meat and bones are good for cats and dogs. I'm hoping I can get the cat to chew some chicken necks, then I don't have to clean her teeth.

I would be very interested in purchasing any deer meat that anyone has extra. I do not have the time or inclination to deal with dressing or butchering it.I am especially interested in tenderloins, burger, sausage. I would not mind having a ham or shoulder. If you have extra already packaged up please send me a message and we can discuss a price (either overall or per pound). Thanks

I finally have a car so I can transport the meat and stuff no problem, but do need someone to show me how to chop up a bambi.
