How many people think aliens exist, they have spacefaring technology, and have actually visited our planet? Once again, dead serious question. I don't want this sent to soap box or chit-chat.Although I have not made up my mind on this matter, I am leaning towards yes because of the documentary evidence. There's just too much to ignore. It has to have happened at least once... there are writings from before the 20th century describing what seems to be alien craft etc. Could every single solitary one be a hallucination or a hoax?
12/1/2008 1:02:43 AM
Many people have claimed to see the following:BigfootNessiethe ChupacabraJesusYetiUFOsetc. It seems more likely that some of those are nonexistent, implausible as it is that such a large number of accounts are hallucinations, hoaxes, or errors.Given the scope of the universe it seems very likely that somewhere there are aliens. Whether or not they're substantially more spacefaring than us is another question. I doubt any have visited Earth, and if they have, it was a one-off thing; regular surveillance and I'd expect more hard evidence by now. And I don't buy government cover-ups, because I've yet to hear a satisfactory explanation for why the government would want to cover anything up.
12/1/2008 1:08:45 AM
^ Eh, the government would have to plenty of reason to cover up classic UFOs. That part of the traditional narrative makes perfect sense. Acknowledging a vastly more powerful alien civilization was making of a mockery of the US military wouldn't do the government any favors. Especially during the Cold War! Imagine the embarrassment.

What gets me about the idea of aliens visiting the planet is that the stories come from so many more diverse sources than local claims of X monster in X wilderness/lake/mountain/whatever. But I guess you could argue that the idea of alien visitors is really just the same thing though--a global aggregate of that kind of local myth.let's try to stay off the coverup/conspiracy theory stuff please or this thread will degenerate quickly[Edited on December 1, 2008 at 1:17 AM. Angels are aliens. They are physical beings which are not from an Earthly origin. I don't understand why Christians would fear the existence of aliens from first principles. That said, most of the AM coast to coast stuff is complete and total garbage. Oh, and I hate the Drake.
12/1/2008 1:55:44 AM
^I'm no theologian, but angels are spirits, not beings. Aliens (assuming they exist,) are beings like us. Angels, (assuming they exist, which I personally doubt,) are more like ghosts, lacking any physical form -- not physical beings.http://www.angelsfeather.com/viewpost_82021.asp

I think alien lifeforms likely do exist. I will even concur that we may not be the only intelligent alien life to have existed in the universe. None the less I think all of the UFO sightings are bogus. In the very unlikely event some alien explorer to stop by our planet the chances of them coming during the period we have developed technology to detect them is even slim. Our planet has been around 4 billion years. Human civilization has been around for approx 5000 years. The current information age of advanced electrical technologies barely 100 years. For all we know our planet was a fucking pit stop for some extinct advanced civilization 500 million years ago.

i saw something on discovery a couple of weeks back about unidentified sumersible objects that was pretty cool. are they aliens or are they indigenous and just so much more advanced than us that we don't know they exist? Does an ant colony recognize my car?
12/4/2008 10:36:46 PM
^^yeah, there probably was some dude named jesus back in the day, but i don't believe in the deity/character/idea of jesus

When I see legitimate evidence of aliens then I'll believe they exist.

more than likely, are they as intelligent or more so than us, likely, have they come here and some schlub has video taped them, less likely, the same schlub claims to have been abducted, highly unlikely.

yesand we will need the Vulcans to save us when this global financial crisis leads us to WWIII

^^ good call. i didn't check out the site, just came across the pic in a google search. as i said before, i don't believe they've ever visited earth, but that seems to be the general consensus as to what "they" look like
12/10/2008 11:00:56 PM
I think it is highly likely that some planet other than ours has the conditions to support life. Possibly the exists sentient life as intelligent or more intelligent than ours. However, I find it highly unlikely that if they were intelligent enough to master intergalactic travel:1) They would just abduct humans and perform medical experiments. They would either want to observe without disrupting us or attempt to communicate openly.2) If they are smart enough to travel through the large distances of space and didn't want to be seen, you'd think they would be smart enough to turn the lights off on their spaceship when they are in Earth's atmosphere 3) I really doubt a being that superior to us in technology would come here with a peaceful purpose, call me cynical.
12/10/2008 11:56:11 PM
aliens are likely, the numbers support it
