1/20/2009 10:25:02 PM
Starts Friday, January 23rd at Galaxy Cinema(2:05), (4:35), 7:15, 9:40

Just got of watching our print and this is fantastic. I can't believe The Reader got a nomination for Picture and Director over this. The fight between Necrobutcher and The Ram is fucking brutal. Rourke got the role of a lifetime handed to him. I would have loved to have seen Nicolas Cage star in this as originally intended.
1/22/2009 11:35:47 PM
Because you think he would've done better or what?I just got done reading a review by Bill Simmons which I thought was pretty goodhttp://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?section=magazine&id=3773747
1/23/2009 1:18:27 PM
A+will watch againi have a whole new respect for mick foleyand i really respected mick foley before today
1/24/2009 3:11:22 AM
Yeah, but at least Foley has a life outside the ring. I'm trying to think of a good example but it's different because if Ram had been a wrestler in the late 90s, like when I was following wrestling, he probably would be a millionaire and wouldn't have had such a shitty life. This movie gave me a perspective on somebody like Terry Funk, I guess, even though I don't think he was as popular as Ram was supposed to be in the movie. Or any of the ECW guys like Sandman or Dreamer
1/24/2009 11:05:46 AM
I meant more along the lines of what's involved in removing thumbtacks from your body, but your point is well taken.
1/24/2009 2:13:26 PM
well, if bill simmons thinks it's good then that's all I need
1/24/2009 2:18:32 PM
my fav scene is when he quits his jobi want to have a beer with mickey rourke - i also want marisa tomei to have my babybecause i wanna do her and because i want my kid to have her genes
1/24/2009 7:24:40 PM
I have not seen it yet, but I don't agree with it being called the resurrection of Mickey Rourke. That great resurrection film was called Sin City.
1/24/2009 10:47:58 PM
don't do drugs kids
1/25/2009 12:02:15 AM
looking forward to seeing this tomorrow
1/25/2009 12:06:58 AM
it seems that every aronofsky film i've seen boils down to battling addictionsthe ram loved the crowd so much nothing else mattered to him
1/25/2009 12:13:50 AM
1/25/2009 12:32:08 AM
So one of the guys who's on the first show in the movie, Paul E. Normous, died last week.He was 33.
1/25/2009 10:04:04 AM
i think i'm going to 3:45 showing todayi cannot wait
1/25/2009 1:06:09 PM
saw it today.I really enjoyed it. Todd Barry for president.
1/25/2009 9:20:17 PM
holy shit.. what a really good, but REALLY depressing movie.
1/25/2009 11:25:38 PM
The ending was reminiscent of Thelma and Louise. So while it was very depressing (we can only assume Randy died) at least he went out the way he wanted, under his on terms, still wrestling with the entire crowd behind him.
1/25/2009 11:42:18 PM
wowheart breakingi mean, the closing 5 minutes are basically the best moment in any sports movie everand yes, i'm now on board the mickey rourke bandwagonalthough the scenes with his daughter were kinda creepy to me, since he's now fucking the hell out of the actress[Edited on January 25, 2009 at 11:45 PM. Reason : btw, casting nic cage would have ruined this movie, it would have been dreck with him in the role]
1/25/2009 11:42:53 PM
this is tangential to the threadbut there's always a celebrity angle at wrestlemanialast year it was floyd mayweather vs. big showtwo years ago it was trump vs. mcmahonthe rumor right now is that this year's angle is a match between rourke and chris jericho
1/26/2009 3:08:10 AM
yepfuck vince mcmahonand in a wayfuck mickey rourke for going along with thisi may be off the oscar bandwagon now if he wins and turns around and does wrestlemania, it will be on par with jamie foxx doing his ray impression for kanye west
1/26/2009 3:22:20 AM
fuck that if it happens
1/26/2009 8:03:29 AM
1/26/2009 8:45:40 AM
Great movie. I knew it was going to be good...just didn't know what to expect.Could they have gotten anybody to play that role even as close to as good as Rourke played it??
1/26/2009 11:17:50 AM
Nic Cage
1/26/2009 11:21:33 AM
1/26/2009 11:27:33 AM
^^man i hope you're joking about the fact that he almost was Randy The Rami wouldn't have gone to see this with nic cage in the lead
1/26/2009 12:21:44 PM
I was reading an article where Aronofsky was bitching about how you can't get funded unless you have a big name actor in your moviei'm sure he's right - it seems when brad pitt left the fountain it devastated the project"The Budget for The Wrestler was about $7 million, but the budget was a whopping $19 million when Nicolas Cage was attached to star. We’ve talked a little bit about this in our Toronto interview with Aronofsky, but he does say that “two days after we won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival [Nicolas Cage] sent a text saying that ‘The Ram was always Mickey, congratulations.’ He is real class.” … “I thought Nic could have done it, but I had worked so long working with Mickey that it was just the Ram in my head was Mickey.”"
1/26/2009 12:30:29 PM
Unfortunately, the element of Rourke's character that put him in the position he's in today and made him the perfect man to portray the Ram is also the element that's resulted in a match at WM. The interesting part about this proposal is that Rourke can probably go just fine, especially with a good partner like Jericho (he certainly can't be any worse than Hogan or Honky Tonk), but I'm concerned about how the booking will treat him. Celebrities usually go over in their WM appearances, but with Vince's opinion of the film, I could see some real bullshit going down.
1/26/2009 1:36:34 PM
based on the promo from RAW tonight, it looks like Rourke v. Jericho will happen at Wrestlemania.
1/26/2009 11:14:35 PM
seriously - it was one thing when he signed on for Iron Man 2 and The Expendablesbut wtf is this shit
1/26/2009 11:45:22 PM
hrm, did not realize that the daughter was the chick from Across the Universeinteresting
1/27/2009 3:12:58 AM
what would be so wrong with Iron Man 2? - the first one was decent, Downey Jr versus Mickey Rourke would be pretty cool. you have to have a little funi'm not familiar with the expendablesevan rachel wood looks way better as a blondethe wrestling thing is stupid though - i guess aronofsky has not commented about it yet[Edited on January 27, 2009 at 2:27 PM. Reason : .]
1/27/2009 2:25:59 PM
as the dark knight snubbing showed usits still commonly accepted that comic book movies are comic book movies, not movies featuring comic book storylines/charactersso yes, following up what may be an Oscar winning role with a comic book movie is along the lines of following up an oscar winning role with Stealth and/or a Kanye West songor following up an oscar winning role with everything cuba gooding jr has been in since jerry maguireimagine, if you will, if john travolta's first movie post-Pulp Fiction was Battlefield Earth[Edited on January 28, 2009 at 12:49 AM. Reason : and you should check out the expendables, stallone is going to deliver (or embarass some talent)]
1/28/2009 12:47:16 AM
^holy shit, i hadn't heard of the expendables, took one look at the cast and almost cried tears of joy, that is going to be awesome, thank you for sharing.
1/28/2009 1:10:01 AM
yeahhhhhhit could honestly be the best action movie everor it could be Ishtar with gunslots and lots of guns[Edited on January 28, 2009 at 1:17 AM. Reason : 61 years old]
1/28/2009 1:16:28 AM
the dude is pumped full of steroids and hgh. It would be ridiculously impressive if that wasn't the case though.
1/28/2009 9:38:01 AM
^^^ same! [Edited on January 28, 2009 at 10:11 AM. Reason : ]

Both "taps out" and "tags out" are appropriate for WWE.

1/29/2009 7:01:33 PM
Man.. best fucking movie I've seen in a looooong timePassion of the Rourke!
1/30/2009 12:48:17 AM
hahayeah, i liked the passion of the christ reference. i fell in love with marisa tomei after my cousin vinny. caught her on a leno rerun tonight. i love free-spirited women like that. but the movie, it's so tragically beautiful. i hate hyping up movies like this, but if i had to summarize my sentiments for this particular movie in one word, it would be: fuck
1/31/2009 4:59:27 AM
He's a tragic fucking hero, man.. fatal fucking flaw and everythingI really wanna go watch it again tomorrow but I'll prolly just wait for the DVD
1/31/2009 5:40:25 AM
man i don't think i could watch it again for at least a couple monthsshit, just the way he's always taking out the earpiece, that alone is enough to crush your heart for the guy - but add in the thumb scene, the last scene with his daughter, the confrontation with marissa tomeimanthe movie really has an amazing design to its decomposition of one man's lifeand none of it is as over the top as requiem for a dream now seemsthere's no "ass-to-ass" momentits just a pitch perfect collapse
