KILLIN NATZIS
8/20/2009 5:52:38 PM
but surely, and I'm absolutely certain hooksaw will agree, such a popular movie (let's not forget, box office sales mean good movies, and this movie has the 308th highest domestic gross of all time) was so great that it warrants merit enough for such an award... aside from the fact that it had the highest gross of the movies at Cannes that year: it's only natural that it wonof course I'm not serious, I'm just confused as to why Cannes is exempt from hooksaw's "it made more money, it's better!" policy when it comes to films
8/20/2009 5:57:07 PM
YES YES YES YES
8/20/2009 6:06:32 PM
^^ Gross is only one metric--one that is too often dismissed here. The über-hip almost always take the position that nothing popular can be good--so what's new?
8/20/2009 6:25:20 PM
looking foward to this
8/20/2009 6:28:57 PM

8/20/2009 9:56:24 PM
Go see this shit.I say again: GO SEE THIS SHIT. I ain't playin', it's good.
8/21/2009 3:16:17 AM
i loved every one of the 165 minutes. my new fave Tarantino film.
8/21/2009 3:29:05 AM
For the record, I believe Cannes has a reputation for seemingly trying to be different...
8/21/2009 3:30:06 AM
I'm a big Tarantino fan, and adore Pulp Fiction. I was a bit let down by this, but it being a Tarantino flick, it may very well grow on me. I intend to see it again...
8/21/2009 11:59:48 AM
i'm going tonight!
8/21/2009 12:33:23 PM
I saw it this afternoon: I went in thinking it was going to be more action oriented; not sure where I go that notion from. I walked out sorely dissappointed but the more I look back on this evening the more I really enjoyed the movie. It is long and I think some scenes could have been edited but it all ties together nicely. The ending was orgasmic...I just read on WIKI that the whole Madam Scenes were cut (the whole cinema backstory). I think if that was cut it would have made it appeal to a broader audience. the fact that cannes hated it, makes me want to see it even more, maybe even twice
8/21/2009 6:42:00 PM
Really fucking good. Doesn't make a lot of sense to call it understated, but that's the word that seems best in my head. Christoph Waltz couldn't have been any better. Also, for a movie that clocks in at two and a half hours, it never once felt like it was that long.
8/21/2009 8:18:07 PM
*SPOILERS*OK, can someone tell me what happens after they show Brad Pitt starting to carve into Hans' forehead? We were watching the shot of blood coming out of the guy's forehead and suddenly the film stopped and the lights came up. At first everyone thought it was some gimmick by Tarantino, but it seemed too weird and stupid. When they got the film rolling again the credits were playing. We got free passes though I enjoyed the movie a lot, although I wish he'd sped up some of the scenes. It was just a lot of talking, particularly in the first scene and later at the bar.*END SPOILERS*

*SPOILERS*Aldo says something along the lines of "This may be my greatest masterpiece." Roll credits.*END SPOILERS*

saw it tonight and thought it was great. the second chapter was epic.
8/22/2009 12:11:10 AM
I thought it kicked ass.
8/22/2009 12:42:33 AM
All the Tarantino fan boys will love this crap, but seriously it sucked. It was BORING. I mean only Tarantino can take the premise of US commandos brutally slaughtering Nazis and turn it into a 2.5 hour bore fest. The "bastards" maybe had 30 minutes of total of screen time in this piece of shit, most of which was not even spent "killin Nat-zis". The movie was typical Tarantino pretentious crap, a dialog driven bore that was not really even about the "Bastards". This movie wasnt even really about the Bastards killin, it tried more to be an espionage story, but failed at that. Every time I decide to give him a chance, his movies suck worse than the last one. Dont waste your time*******Spoiler*****************Also, with ALL the pointless dialog, you would think there would be some decent character development, but there really was not. I mean a key element of the Colonel becoming a traitor was not even flushed out. There was no development as to why a character who was blatantly evil, loyal and a relentless hunter throughout 90% of the movie would simply turn on a dime.
8/22/2009 1:33:50 AM
yeah i havent seen a good tarantino flick since dusk till dawn, will/may give this a shotonly because of the vastly polarized reviews
8/22/2009 1:38:12 AM
Just saw it. I enjoyed it. All the dialog was great. I'm glad the entire film wasn't just a bunch of nazi killing. The German detective dude was hilarious. "I GOT BINGO!!!"
8/22/2009 1:42:18 AM
i havent seen any tarantino flick in years, not even worth it
8/22/2009 1:44:46 AM
just my opinion
8/22/2009 1:50:33 AM
The more I think about it, the less I like it.Plot holes always suck.
8/22/2009 1:54:59 AM
biggest plot hole, lack of security at a movie theater with the entire Nazi high command in it
8/22/2009 2:11:35 AM
8/22/2009 3:52:38 AM
His pretentious dialogue is alway hit-or-miss w/ me. It worked flawlessly in Pulp Fiction & Kill Bill Vol. 2 but I wanted to punch every one of those bitches in the face during Death-Proof. Never thought I would make this comparison, cause it's random as fuck, but it's kinda like Dennis Miller when he writes a joke that he thinks makes him sound clever and original, but only 10% of people actually get the references.
8/22/2009 8:30:01 AM
I loved this movie...the man that stole the show was Colonel Hans Landa. will see again, and will purchase on DVDquestion though...spoilerwhere in the HELL was BJ Novak that he appeared in the back of the Nazi truck at the end?? Saps and I both looked at each other like, "wha?? where'd he come from??"end spoiler

Im really just not a fan of Tarantinos, but I usually go out on a limb and give him a chance each time, but am always disappointed and bored with his films. And its in no way that Im not clever enough to "get them" its just that they are really boring to me. Id rather watch Casablanca if I wanted a dialog driven WWII espionage story, because its just a better movie. In fact this movie borrows, in a small way, some elements of Casablanca. If you replace the nightclub with a movie theater
8/22/2009 1:46:22 PM
I was concerned this on was going to be just a big gorefest but I loved it. Covered my eyes during certain parts because my tummy was queasy but loved the characters.
8/22/2009 3:26:29 PM
Wasnt very impressed.I liked some of the characters, some of the dialogue. I enjoyed District 9 more.
8/22/2009 4:20:27 PM
i liked it in whole, but the movie was too damn long
8/22/2009 4:54:23 PM
This movie was great. Some of you are such faggots.
8/22/2009 6:13:45 PM
Loved it! I have to say that Aldo Raine is one on my favorite on-screen characters of all time, right there next to Walter (The Big Lebowski). My only knock on the film is that I would have loved to see more Baster Mayhem, ala Act 2. Bear Jew FTW!
8/22/2009 6:31:24 PM
That Chapter 1 was excellent
8/22/2009 7:30:46 PM
I thought it was great, but I was surprised at how little screen time the Basterds actually got.How many tense "do you think he'll figure out who I am during casual conversation" scenes can you fit into one movie?
8/22/2009 8:25:35 PM
8/22/2009 9:14:49 PM
saying you get it doesn't mean you get it.i'm still debating whether or not i hold this above pulp fiction. i'm thinking sometime this week i'll have to watch pulp fiction and then go in to the galaxy and watch this immediately after.
8/22/2009 10:02:19 PM
i almost feel the same way. someone asked me if it was better than pulp fiction, and i pondered for a moment and a small part of me feels like it is......but i feel like i'm cheating on PF thinking that
8/22/2009 10:11:35 PM
Can someone describe something that "you got" out of this film that a lot of people are not "getting?"thx
8/22/2009 10:48:28 PM
8/22/2009 11:44:43 PM
Looking back two days on, I think I'm appreciating the movie a bit more. I still won't compare to Pulp Fiction, that movie is very complex, and I regard it as a masterpiece.Anyway, some parts of the movie have grown on me more, particularly the security chief dude, and his plays on people/character development. -Little note here-, he did not turn soft on a dime later in the movie, I view it as this is meant to show how cheap and two faced (also non-caring bastard?) his character is... I will most definitely see this movie again, and imagine I'll be picking up on several details. It wouldn't be the first Quentin movie that I would appreciate more with additional viewing(s).[Edited on August 23, 2009 at 12:44 AM. Reason : edits]

i enjoyed the hell out of this movie. the first scene reminded me of the first-ish scene in "good bad ugly" when the dude cleef rolls up to the house.
8/23/2009 12:45:09 AM
*SPOILER*I am going to assume the Jew-Hunter turned because he felt his side was ultimately going to lose and the allies would spend the century hunting down every last Nazi officer and bringing them to justice. And that's exactly what has happened. Or, as he was stationed in France, he might have assumed that, even if the Allies ultimately lost, they would have at least taken out the Nazies in his neck of the woods.I thought the movie's blatant disregard for historical accuracy, particularly at the end, was hilarious. I'm assuming it's for this very same reason that Cannes hated. They probably considered it disrespectul. Which is fine. If it wasn't for us, it would have been all in German Hate Hate Hate
8/23/2009 4:00:35 AM
It wasn't a "blatant disregard for historical accuracy," per se. This was genre, not a period piece. Tarantino said he basically wanted to make a spaghetti Western with WWII iconography. That means Nazis as the bad guys, roughneck infantry, the tension war places on civilian life, etc.
8/23/2009 10:42:15 AM
8/23/2009 1:10:06 PM
The difference is that Tarantino makes films with B-movie ideals but with masterful technique and production value. Yes, this has the feel of a spaghetti combat film, but it sure as hell doesn't look like one.
