EEE901 for me, mainly because the small keyboard really doesn't bother me at all after a week or two adjusting and the 1" smaller screen still has the same max resolution, and the size/weight difference between 901 and 1000 makes enough of a difference imo.
11/20/2008 5:24:11 PM
i recommend the lenovo s10...i added 1gb more memory and its fantastic
11/21/2008 10:10:43 AM
this shit is awesome so far, except the "." key is easy to miss
11/22/2008 3:47:23 AM
the only complaint i've had with my Eee PC's keyboard is the placement of the right shift key... wtf were they thinking by putting it to the RIGHT of the arrow keys?
11/23/2008 8:08:51 AM
^yeah that is retarded, luckily as my typing developed over the years I came to rely exclusively on the left shift anyway, so I never really noticed it at all
11/23/2008 1:31:03 PM
i just tried to type something with the right shift key and i now realize that i NEVER use it*shrug*

The best buy at Southpoint had the two asus models side by side, and I don't think I could use the 9 inch one. It seems to make way too much of a difference in the keyboard size. The 10 inch one still feels somewhat normal.
11/24/2008 11:28:09 AM
fuck i almost impulse bought one tooi started off looking at the MSI Wind for like $350 and was like yeah i can afford that, shitthen i started comparing models and got myself up to the EeePC 1000 and then eventually up to $450 with the IdeaPad S10i was reading reviews and so close to buying when i realized, FUCK $450?! I can get a full laptop for that much, not just a netbook...what the fuck am i doing...ahh i need someone to take my credit card and paypal info away lol
11/24/2008 2:20:00 PM
^ Just remember that you're paying for portability over power.
11/24/2008 4:13:42 PM
yah i know but i do need to do some photoshop work on the go from time to time as wellcan netbooks handle photoshop decently if i upgrade the RAM myself to like 2 or 4GB?

o snap good call on jr.comhttp://www.jr.com/asus/pe/ASU_EPC1000HD03/ran across this gemi can do with an 80gb hd for this price. i keep all my docs synced on a 250gb external usb drive anywaysand i don't mind playing with linux in the beginning and then putting my own xp OS on there if i don't like it. i hope drivers aren't a nightmare but i don't expect them to be since the eee pc is so popularand they have a 30day return policy unlike neweggoh and $5 off with google checkout ftw. order placed.[Edited on November 25, 2008 at 4:51 PM. ^ The Asus Eee PC come with a disk with all the necessary drivers needed to run XP. The linux distro they provide. If you want to run linux, look up one of the Ubuntu forks designed for Eee PCs.
11/25/2008 6:52:15 PM
anybody found a good source for cases, especially sleeves? i want something thin that i can put it in just to protect it from the other stuff in my pocketbook.
12/2/2008 2:48:19 PM
^ Dell has some cases designed for their Inspiron Mini line that would probably work for other brands of netbooks. Also, I'm sure some of the cases designed for the 13" form factor laptops may also work well.
12/2/2008 4:42:08 PM
yeah i looked through those. i didn't see any that were just plain sleeves though. maybe i missed it...i want something that fits pretty snugly since i'm going to be putting it in another bag.[Edited on December 2, 2008 at 5:06 PM. Reason : ]

^ look at 8.9" netbooks on amazon and then go under 'people also buy these'. there are some plain padded slips for netbooks of that size
12/3/2008 1:46:49 AM
awesome thank you
12/3/2008 2:17:21 PM
momma dukes wants a 300-400 dollar laptop but doesn't want one of these. I only ever use this Compaq C714NR (15.4", 1.46GHz core duo, 1GB, 120GB) for work and though it's not massively heavy, i'm definitely looking for portability. Since I got in on this crazy best buy deal last year and paid ~300 for this, I'm considering giving it to her and picking up one of these things.Thoughts? How frustrated will I get with the atom processor for daily computing? I do sometimes lay in bed and watch/stream xvid/hulu. Will this now be impossible?
12/4/2008 9:11:20 AM
i am returning mine because i couldn't handle the screen*x600 just made me want to roll over and die
12/4/2008 11:34:59 AM
^^ Hulu should work fine on a netbook.
12/4/2008 12:37:26 PM

^ I'm guess there was too much scrolling for his tastes.
12/4/2008 3:09:34 PM
oh. hmm. well i would kinda expect that from something so small...
12/4/2008 3:37:40 PM
ya it was the scrolling and the lcd wasn't even crisp or brightthey're using cheap lcds to keep the cost down probablyi'll revisit netbooks in a couple of generations maybe
12/4/2008 6:01:31 PM
So I've read mixed shit on SSD vs HDD. I'm going to have to make a decision soon..hmm.

^ Try to get a model with a 6-cell battery.
12/8/2008 3:03:51 PM
ya 6 cell battery AKA "all day computing" is the reason i went with the eeePC 1000
12/8/2008 3:29:27 PM
So lets say that I could get the the ASUS E1000 for that price, too. I'm having trouble finding a direct comparison that shows the differences.
12/8/2008 3:48:21 PM
^ That largest difference in the keyboard layout. As far as the parts of pieces go, most netbooks are virtually identical.
12/8/2008 5:31:23 PM
Ok, I just got off the phone with my 'rents. I have a $450 limit if its going to be used "for school" 10-12" models only.Has anyone handled the different models that can give me an anecdotal comparison between two or more?SSD doesn't matter to me, but 6-cell does.I have an extra XP CD-Key, so windows-installed isn't really a deal breaker. Also, which one has the greatest potential for ram/hdd upgradeability?[Edited on December 8, 2008 at 6:07 PM. Reason : upgradeability]
12/8/2008 6:07:08 PM
i haven't used more than one because to me they're all the same except the battery and size.i upgraded my RAM easily on the EeePC that i got.
12/8/2008 6:29:24 PM
