If you listen to last.fm radio stations, I highly recommend the Fire.fm Firefox add-on

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7684

It's pretty great

And fuck you faggots that didn't accept my friend request

The friend request/message system is pretty stupid. You get an email when you someone messages/adds you, but there's no indication on the last.fm site. I've had friend requests languish in my inbox for months because of this. I'm assuming that this is the problem here, that you all aren't just stuck-up douchers.

Last.fm + lala.com =

lala is internet music locker / store. You can upload all the jamz from your collection, listen to them anywhere, etc. Plus it scrobbles your music to Last.fm. It makes my workday far less soul-crushing.

^^, ^^^ Super x2

One last plug for lala as a remote music locker / music discovery tool: if you aren't familiar with it, it's the player used by both Pitchfork and WOXY, so it's totally hipster-approved.

^ That can't be right, there are last.fm subdomains for every country on earth. I think there's a premium service, but I don't know anything about that, I'm poor.

Oh, and the Last.fm integration is still in beta, you have to go through some hoops to find it and get signed up, but it works flawlessly.

They also hook you up with some beta facebook application thing but facebook sucks dick.

No, there's an iTunes plugin that sends your info to Last.fm. The music you listen to shows up on your profile.

well it tracks what song you listen to. but you have to listen to a certain length (i forgot what it is) before it will pick it up.

^ yes that too

I don't know, I never really got the hang of Pandora.

It's not so much a music discovery tool like Pandora was, although there is that aspect to it. There's far more interactivity with Last.fm: friends, stats, artist profiles, concert info, etc.

It's basically a scrobbling service (I think they inherited AudioScrobbler). You listen to music, send the information to Last.fm, it stores that info and lets you compare your tastes with others, lets you see what your friends are listening to, recommends music based on your habits. You can also search and play most any song (a limited number of times), which is something I don't think you could do with Pandora.

Ah. I recently got into Pandora, its kinda cool. If this one just plays artists you like, then it just seems like a profile for your music tastes. That's what it seems like to me in my ~5 minutes of messing with it

At least when listening to the recommended player, you can skip a lot more than on Pandora

i don't like pandora. i mean i'm not really comparing this to that because i think that the central idea of each one is different even though they have similarities. but i don't like it. it doesn't recommend stuff i like or new stuff.

Yeah, that's the basic idea. There's also a pretty robust recommendations section (and radio station) and the ability to see what others are listening to.

Pandora is supposed to be a one-track way to find new music, but I think Last.fm does a much better job at it. It's been more serviceable in my experience, at least.

Different strokes, though.
