You need me to explain why claiming someone is pulling strings to make Obama president with a nefarious goal of "appeasing" black people, is idiotic? And Obama has one of the clearest political stances of any politician in recent years.
11/6/2008 1:25:33 AM
Nvm...thought you were responding to me...time for bed haha.

I don't support Obama's positions and I didn't vote for him. But now that he's president-elect, I would give my very life for him--and I mean this with every fiber of my being. This is what duty, honor, and country are all about. Some will never grasp the concepts.AMERICA! THE LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE!I love my country and all that it stands for.

my sister-in-law teaches in Columbus Cty (NC) at a high school where there are Lumbee, black kids, and white kids...she goes into class yesterday morning and one of the younger black kids is raising a ruckus to the white kids about Barack Obama being elected...the kids was getting the whole class loud and chaoticmy sister tells the kid that he needs to settle down so she can start class and he says, "you can't tell me what to do, a black guy is the president. I can do anything I want to."Now...I am all for black people being proud of President-Elect Obama's accomplishment. A black father should teach his children to be proud of being black (even before this), simply because of the things black people have had to overcome over the last 200 years. But for a kid to be disrespectful and have a "i can do what I want" attitude is just WRONG, and it is the antithesis of what Barack Obama has done and what he represents to black people.

holy shit this needs to be locked
11/6/2008 6:55:30 AM
yep, and that "I can do what I want b/c a black man is president" attitude is something that the black race needs to nip in the bud, quickly, so the accomplishment isn't outweighed by fucktardism.
11/6/2008 6:56:23 AM
^^why does it need to be locked?

Because of the staggering amount of ignorance and not-so-thinly-veiled racism.

And which elements of the Constitution are Vix and JCASHFAN motivated to say that they are willing to die for now that Obama is President, specifically? And, to make matters more clear still, what exactly is it that they are willing to do now besides dying?[Edited on November 7, 2008 at 2:49 AM. Reason : Basically, what is more unconstitutional about Obama than about other presidents?]
11/7/2008 2:49:00 AM
I'm interested in knowing the answer to that as well.
11/7/2008 1:02:43 PM
^^ Well, by definition, when I joined the Army I swore to "support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic". So, it has nothing to do with Obama or Bush or any other president. My point was quite the opposite, that the Constitution transcends presidents and has done so since George Washington asked to be called "Mr. President" instead of something more grandiloquent. In the mean time, I will continue to remain politically active by contacting my elected representatives at all levels, working for candidates I like (when I can, a bit hard when I live 3 states away from my home district), supporting organizations I feel defend the Constitution, and generally remaining an active citizen.

Now whenever someone who is black runs for President they will be compared to Obama. Stupid? Yes. But, not much more stupid than going on and on about how noble the US is to elect a man who is Black. Well big deal. We also just failed to elect a woman vice president, I guess we are all sexist.Identity politics is the death of any meaningful discussion of ideas. I guess I cannot say anything though, I'm just a white male so set my comments to zero.

Sorry, I just think that we will never really be color blind so long as we focus on who people are in terms of their gender/race. It should be about what we do and what we think. So what if Obama's black? Is that all he is? A black man? Why must we insist on focusing on the "historic" nature of the event. I don't see the history of this event in the same light. I don't see a black president. I see a radically liberal activist president. But, forgive me if I focus on ideas rather than race. I guess that's just my conservative racist self showing its ugly underbelly of seething hate.

So what you are saying is that you such a huge tool, you can't give credit where credit is due while still disagreeing with someone. You'd think that after the age of 14 or so, righteous indignation would cease to be an appropriate reaction to anything.

Wait, I missed the part where Obama was oppressed because he was black. Also more generally, I missed the part where most white people oppress black people now.By this sort of logic we ought to tear off our shirts and shout aloud at the historic nature of any time a Jew succeeds at anything.

Ok, I just disagree that black people have not done things before Obama. Frankly, I think Jackie Robinson's major league baseball achievements are more meaningful then anything thus far actually accomplished by Obama. Or, take James Gates the String Theorist at University of Maryland, his work is a far greater accomplishment for the black race in my estimation. Alan Keyes is just a great an orator and his ideas and command of debate dwarf those of Obama. This cult of personality can only go so far, it will be interesting to see how Obama deals with a real crisis and real questions.
