I <3 earl grey... But I feel like I need some options... Something similar to it, but not the same flavor all the time. And this thread is a bit overwhelming. Any suggestions?(That Rooibos Earl Grey 0EPII1 mentioned sounds good. )

we stopped in Teavana today in Crabtree...they had a delicious rooibus chai
11/9/2008 8:24:23 PM
My favorite, plus my family back in Italy is involved in the growing and processing of bergamot and bergamot essential oils - which is what gives Earl Grey its unique taste and fragrence.
11/9/2008 10:02:41 PM
^^^thyme for tea has a "Victorian Earl Grey" which is great. http://www.tearificspices.com/teasmain.htmI just picked up a new one today - Rooibois Sweet Nut-things. http://www.tearificspices.com/teasmain.htm[Edited on November 9, 2008 at 10:08 PM. Reason : v]

^^ Among cheap/affordable brands, Twinings probably is the best. But there are far better (and some of them quite expensive) teas out there, whether Earl Grey or not:http://www.tazo.comhttp://www.republicoftea.comhttp://www.teaforte.comhttp://www.mariagefreres.comhttp://www.teavana.comI have tried them all except for the last brand I listed.

^ http://www.mariagefreres.comAgree with this one hands down. If you ever have the chance, check out one their ridiculously snobby tea houses. Good chance to try some of their tea without committing to an entire container.

went to teavana a couple of days ago...jeebus, that place is pricey (well, more than i expected)tea is top notch, though, and the women there know what they're talking about

I love yogi teas too, I also drink twinings earl grey(pretty much any earl grey is good, I've found...as long as you like earl grey), the tea at barnes and noble is good, I've tried most of them. I also drink some celestial seasonings, they have an apple chamomile tea that I really like. Republic of tea is good too, and if you buy the loose leaf tea it's a pretty good deal. Their tea bags are pretty weak imo.
11/11/2008 8:39:12 PM
I second mighty leaf too, I think they've got a citrus chamomile that I really like. That's the only one I've tried but they all sound really good.

I got turned on to loose-leaf tea recently and have been blown away by how much more I enjoy it than most of the bagged tea I've tried in the past. In fact, I never really cared for tea much at all until I started making it the traditional way. Lately I've been drinking green and red Rooibos teas, but am interested in trying some good Oolong. I prefer my tea relatively rich in flavor, and I'm not big on floral teas. Fruit teas are pretty good as long as the flavor is fairly mild.Any recommendations? Local shops are a plus, though I am not opposed to buying online.

Tazo is owned by Starbucks. Not necessarily a bad thing. I like a lot of their tea. Soooo good.[Edited on February 24, 2012 at 10:26 AM. Reason : s]

^^ Teavana has a good oolong. You can also buy oolong loose at Grand Asia Market.

Holy shit, memories. And damn I used to use way too much sugar. I like this thread though, some good info.

the quality of the loose leaf green tea in Grand Asia is pretty low but it is rather cheap.

Does anyone here make their own iced tea and have a brand recommendation?I like mine unsweet, I add in some powered caffeine to bring it up to coffee standards, and I usually pour in some lemon juice (though I've stopped that atm...gonna use slices instead). I've been using Lipton, but I'm sure there has to be some better tasting brands out there. Any ideas?
5/18/2014 9:31:20 PM
Most teas can be made iced. It just depends on what you are looking for. I tend to find anything with floral or herbal notes (i.e. any type of mint) work best, though I've been mostly a hot-tea drinker...and I just noticed you mentioned Lipton. So you're probably looking more for instant/Southern teas. I'm afraid I cannot help you there .
5/18/2014 9:38:29 PM
i was raised on lipton, but after i went out on my own i tried luzianne because it was on sale once. i like it better.mint sounds good. there's a restaurant down here that has sweet mint iced tea that is awesome.[Edited on May 18, 2014 at 9:42 PM. Reason : not the instant stuff. in bags. i make it in a drip coffee maker. ]

My favorite tea brands after many years of sampling:http://www.adagio.com/http://www.davidstea.com/David's tea is expensive (due to customs) but extremely good. Adagio is more affordable, and I like their chai teas better. Still keep a box of Twinnings at work though.

didn't know about this thread. I drink a ton of green tea at work. I did a study abroad in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China so I'm pretty partial to Longjing tea but I like Japanese greens too. I have seven jars on my desk at work and one of these, which I highly recommend:In China I drank out of these but I don't know where to find them in RaleighMy current supply:jasmine green tea pearls (brought back from China)Teavana Dragonwell (Longjing) green tea (this is my staple tea)Teavana mint green tea (I don't really recommend it, but it's cheap)Teavana Blackberry Mojito Green Tea (lots of berries, good afternoon tea)Teavana Bananas Foster herbal (good to mix with the next two)Teavana Javavana Mate (good coffee substitute, high caffeine)Teavana Chocolate Decadence oolong (chocolatey with lots of coconut - good dessert tea)I'm out of the Teavana Gyokura Imperial Green Tea (Japanese) but that was very good, yet expensive.I think I'm just going to order a pound of Longjing tea from Hangzhou. When I was there it was so fucking dirt cheap and as good or better than Teavana. That being said, Teavana is kind of a rip off but it's convenient to just pick up at Crabtree
5/19/2014 3:13:31 PM
^ Im also an avid green tea drinker. Right now Ive been drinking sencha from Japan. I would be interested in going in on your order for longjing.
5/19/2014 6:27:47 PM
I used to be all about green tea but I've come to prefer Asian blacks and chais lately, which is weird because I used to hate chai tea. Something snapped and now I can't get it spicy enough. Masala chai is fantastic.
5/19/2014 7:20:42 PM
I'll try to see if anyone I know is still over there and will send me some. I just did a cursory search online and it's hella expensive. I remember getting it for like $3/lb. in Hangzhou. Maybe I should open a tea business
5/20/2014 12:39:03 PM
Just got a half pound of longjing green tea in Chinatown NYC for $2/oz.

i love the costco diet green tea. that shit is the shiz.
5/30/2014 11:30:37 PM
Diet tea?So is that like sugar-free and fat-free tea, which all tea is to begin with anyway? Or is it tea-free tea, like fat-free butter?
