in that case, you'd then owe him $350.


but in my experience, comparable shops charge very close to the same amount to do the same thing.

now, one shop might want to charge 3x that of another shop by replacing every part when a minor dent could be repaired, for example.

^ I have to agree. I don't know how many places you've taken a car to get estimates but I was rear ended once and had to take my car to 5 different places for the other party to be satisfied. I gave them the first initial estimate of $1,500 and they INSISTED that I take to here and there. Well the other estimates ended up being the most expensive (by only about $100). I was lucky in that a cop had witnessed me getting rear-ended, but guess which estimate the other party wanted to honor. I also gladly accepted this, despite the time/money/gas spent to get the other estimates. AND I also didn't get my car fixed, I pocketed the money, but I was a broke-ass college student at the time.

I've been on the other end of the stick too, though. I've scraped paint with a beemer while trying to parallel park. I paid home dude the initial estimate.

i would have made them pay me $ to drive around for estimates.
