Jim has this less than desirable quality about him that everyone seems to overlook, often he is completely oblivious to social ettiquette when pressured and/or backed into a corner.ie. in karen's office when he was questioned about pam.the night when he got the gang locked in and had to call the security guard.im sure there are more examples that i cant remember at the moment.its a subtle flaw to an otherwise archetypal cool-guy character design.I'd like to add proposing at a fucking gas station to that list.

^ I guess his whole consolidation of birthday parties while he was in charge that day could fall in that category... everybody was pissed at him

Yeah, im just saying it's refreshing to see the writers flesh out Jim. When the series began, Jim was penned as the dorky yet 'cool' character that we admire and cant help but like/root for, sort of a nerdy Fonzie, yet with all of the invincible qualities of our favorite Jukebox repairman. Where I argue the series becomes more interesting, is as the series progresses, they show him mess up more often, frequently have him fall flat on his face, usually in extremely uncomfortable (to watch) situations, often ending with total meltdown where we can see the real Jim shine, when his slick exterior/wit can't handle the heat and he breaks down into a flustered, speechless, and tormented soul--all caught on camera by the emotionless docu crew (which only seems to add to the stress). A reminder of his flaws, and in short a more believable character portrayal then what we are used to seeing on tv. And yes I would throw the birthday ep in that category.

Im waiting for them to do what they did to Tim in the UK version where he got kinda power hungry after his promotion.

What was up with Meridith's face? It looked really burnt when they weighed in one time and later it was normal.I loved Andy's line about never losing anything.

^^ yeah, i think that was the week 2 or 3 weigh-in and her face was all blistered up. I bet it might come out in a deleted scene (btw, there is already one deleted scene out http://www.officetally.com/weight-loss-deleted-scenes )[Edited on September 26, 2008 at 2:06 PM. Reason : ./]

yeah I'd say fire the editing dept on that episode, some of the deleted scenes were really funny and would have made things a lot less confusing, like what the hell happened to Meredith's face, or setting up the ending with Toby a bit better. Also the deleted scene between Dwight and Jim about his chair was absolutely hilarious and Ryan dropped a 'that's what she said' in it too. All of that stuff is classic Office. And then there were those occasions where Michael for no reason lost or gained his goatee with little explanation, at first I thought it was intentional but it seems like just bad forced editing after seeing the whole thing through.....[Edited on September 27, 2008 at 12:54 AM. Reason : but Dwight kicking the cake bit was probably my favorite part]
9/27/2008 12:53:35 AM
here's the 2nd deleted scene http://www.lifeintheoffice.com/2008/09/27/weight-loss-2nd-deleted-scene-up/includes explanations for merideth's face, a lead-in to Toby's zip-line accident, and a "that's what she said" from Ryan.
9/27/2008 12:19:02 PM
What did Jim do to make Michael threaten to suspend him then take away his chair
9/27/2008 12:56:06 PM
^Jim's advice not working out with the new hot HR chick is my guess
9/27/2008 1:01:14 PM
bump for tonight.TV listings online are saying that the Vice-presidential debate is going to be on instead of the show.
10/2/2008 6:23:06 PM
why would you bump for tonight - when clearly you saw that the VP debates are on tonight instead
10/2/2008 6:24:26 PM
WHAT THE-I CAME HERE LOOKIN FOR THE OFFICENOW I'M LOOKIN FOR A FIGHT!
10/2/2008 6:34:03 PM
lol my badi was pumped up for another new episode so i was hoping they would be airing it at a later time.
10/2/2008 6:49:52 PM
So The Office is on hold?
10/2/2008 9:12:13 PM
what's so hard to understand about "the debates are on tonight. wait until next week for The Office"
10/2/2008 9:22:05 PM
I've got the "debates are on tonight" part.Still workin on the other.
10/2/2008 9:32:28 PM
when have they ever shown a new episode of any show that's been preempted by something like a presidential debate at a later time slot?
10/3/2008 8:15:08 AM
I figured the left coast would get it and I could watch it online today.
10/3/2008 11:06:39 AM
Networks cater to the east coast almost without exceptionThere's no way they would only show a new episode in the West
10/3/2008 11:09:47 AM
Yeah. That really worked out for Futurama. They'd always get preempted out of existence on the east coast but would show at the regular schedule in the west... and that was before TV was easily accessible on the net.
10/3/2008 11:25:54 AM
I was wondering the same thinghttp://www.officetally.com/gene-stupnitsky-answers-weight-loss-questions
10/6/2008 10:12:56 PM
10/7/2008 10:19:04 AM
yeah, i didn't understand why they only had one take, if the whole thing was staged in a Best Buy parking lot with fake drivers, fake rain, etc. as I was watching that scene, though, i was wondering:1) how strange it would be to have an office camera-man follow you to a rest stop in the middle of PA, while apparently wearing wireless mics the whole time (we discussed the non-believability of the documentary aspect of The Office in recent seasons in a previous thread. I'm over it now, i don't care how unrealistic it is. in the same light, how strange it would be for a documentary crew to follow Pam into a New York classroom to film her while in class, in the dorm, etc)2) how they actually got that shot, because it really looked like a real rest stop, and it would be a real pain in the ass to get it while it was raining, and closing the rest stop, and all the traffic and everything
10/7/2008 10:24:34 AM
Seems like there would be a million real gas stations that they could shoot at rather than build the whole set from scratch
10/7/2008 10:25:18 AM
from his description, it sounds like they wanted to make it true-to-life. They had a specific station in Western PA they wanted to film or emulate. I guess maybe it's a notable stop or exit if you drive between NYC and Scranton Plus, they wanted to have it raining, so unless they could somehow set up and film in the rain, it would be probably impossible to bring in rain machines to a real interstate and gas station

10/8/2008 8:27:35 AM
bttt for tonight!
10/9/2008 12:09:05 PM
I don't hate Ryan, but I find it quite hilarious he is now secretary until pam gets back. I'm sure Jim will give him hell for a while, should be good.
10/9/2008 4:59:05 PM
she is supposed to be gone for 5 months and the first episode spanned roughly 3 months, right?so pam won't be back this episode?
10/9/2008 5:41:08 PM
I don't know, its possible that she will be back this episode, maybe they will just have this be the end of the summer. Personally I would rather they keep Ryan there till the end of this episode, and have this one end with Pam coming back. Ryan is such a douche bag right now, its hilarious.
10/9/2008 6:11:21 PM
yeah, i would like ryan to stay too. i'm just a little confused on the timeline.
10/9/2008 6:38:33 PM
The timeline is nothing like heroes. Its not that complicated.
