What types of questions are asked in the interviews?

[Edited on November 20, 2008 at 8:48 PM. Reason : I know very little about the program--just curious how much background knowledge they expect]

Well I have to respond in an ethical manner here.

The types of interview questions will vary based on your experience.

All interviews typically have the same types of questions. Some of them are as follows:

Quote :
"What are your long-range goals and objectives?
What are your short-range goals and objectives?
How do you plan to achieve your career goals?
What are the most important rewards you expect in your career?
Why did you choose the career for which you are preparing?
What are your strengths, weaknesses, and interests?
How do you think a friend or professor who knows you well would describe you?
Describe a situation in which you had to work with a difficult person (another student, co-worker, customer, supervisor, etc.). How did you handle the situation? Is there anything you would have done differently in hindsight?
What motivates you to put forth your greatest effort? Describe a situation in which you did so.
In what ways have your college experiences prepared you for a career?
How do you determine or evaluate success?
In what ways do you think you can make a contribution to our organization?
Describe a contribution you have made to a project on which you worked.
What qualities should a successful manager possess?
Was there an occasion when you disagreed with a supervisor's decision or company policy? Describe how you handled the situation.
What two or three accomplishments have given you the most satisfaction? Why?
Describe your most rewarding college experience.
What interests you about our product or service?
Why did you select your college or university?
What led you to choose your major or field of study?
What college subjects did you like best? Why?
What college subjects did you like least? Why?
If you could do so, how would you plan your academic studies differently?
Do you think your grades are a good indication of your academic achievement?
What have you learned from participation in extracurricular activities?
In what kind of work environment are you most comfortable?
How do you work under pressure?
Describe a situation in which you worked as part of a team. What role did you take on? What went well and what didn't?
In what part-time, co-op, or summer jobs have you been most interested? Why?
How would you describe the ideal job for you following graduation?
Why did you decide to seek a position with this organization?
What two or three things would be most important to you in your job?
What criteria are you using to evaluate the organization for which you hope to work?
Will you relocate? Does relocation bother you?
Are you willing to travel?
Are you willing to spend at least six months as a trainee?
"

So far as the final interviews - they wont interview you on things they dont prepare you to know. We were given resources to prepare us x days before the interview. However, if you already possess a certification expect to be held to that level of knowledge, given of course your experience and use of said certification.

So far as the typical personality/behavior interview, that all depends on who you are vs who you project yourself to be.

I was more curious how technical they got with the questions.. I'm not asking exact questions or anything lol. Are they giving you like technical "what if" situations or is it more the stuff you posted?

What types of subjects are they having you study/be prepared for? Just trying to get an idea of the level it takes to get through the interview process.. I should probably research the program more though and I'd find the answer myself

Obviously not everyone there is technical. There is a minimum set of things they will tell you that you should know and provide you the resources to know them. Its only fair, right? Exactly.

As for what types of technical questions... I ended up drawing out a complete MPLS VPN network describing LSPs (L2 and L3). Honestly it did scare me because I had to go off of instinct instead of fresh knowledge if that makes any sense. I used to draw it out and explain it all the time, but I havent done it in 10 months or so. I re-read the information the night before, but its a lot different when you have to explain it while drawing it out on a whiteboard. Add to that the people interviewing you have CCIE's, but thankfully they were more nurturing than critical.

As I said it depends on your experience, knowledge level, and what you feel comfortable with. If you tell them you know TCP/IP really well, expect them to expect you to be able to draw out a good majority of both headers AND explain the function of each field.

However they arent there to question you until you fail, or at least with the intent of "breaking" you. In this particular situation they want to see your aptitude and how well you can articulate what you know. That is the primary function of this role. I would also argue that is a good portion of most support jobs too.

Hell I was asked about redundancy and ended up speaking about HSRP. I have only read it maybe 2 or 3 times in my career, but they were accepting of that and didnt expect me to know it inside and out.

^ you might end up being better off.

layoffs might be coming, there have been some fairly credible rumors floating around.

ASE/ASRs would probably be one of the first to go. (this is me speculating based on what i saw in 2000)
