a more apt precursor would be the original wave of bands people referred to as "emo" and post-punk/hardcore bands of the 90s who were actually good and which is totally separate to the current wave imo

8/23/2008 10:53:56 AM
Freddy and RP
8/23/2008 10:54:30 AM
^^ haha. well yea they were fairly "whiny" for that group of bands, most of the others werent. but yea the general comment holds true. the "emo" bands today are so ridiculous they are like bad parodies of the taking back sunday era bands who were already terrible.
8/23/2008 10:57:50 AM
i caroused through the wikipedia entry this morning after your first post on this page and saw a similar treatise on the transition, but thanks for fleshing it outperhaps my original confusion arose from bands i was thinking this morning were "emo" are actually "indie"it's all horsehockey labels anyhowi listen to rock and roll[Edited on August 23, 2008 at 1:48 PM. As much as I love Guns N' Roses and Axl Rose's style, he can be a pretty shitty performer
8/23/2008 3:51:50 PM
but he can also be fucking incrediblebut i'll take a hit-or-miss axlover an always-mediocre sammy hagar (just as an example)

8/23/2008 7:34:14 PM
agreed, Funhouse > Raw PowerLots of good ones in this thread. I really enjoy the vocals of Chuck Schuldiner (from Death), especially on Symbolic and The Sound Of Perseverance.

^^ Cedric Bixler Zavala was only the vocalist for atdi and mars volta, not sparta if you were thinking/implying that it was 1 person.

psh of course he is. I still rock my White Pony hat to this day as my main hat 8 years after getting it when I picked up that album I dont listen to them much these days (still enjoy them but theyve just fallen down for me with the amount of music accumulated + less free time to listen to music), but they were the first band to inspire me to make music and the first CD I bought, so I wear it around with pride [Edited on August 26, 2008 at 5:00 PM. When At the Drive In split in 2001 Cedric and Omar (vocalist and bass/guitar player) left to form The Mars Volta. The other members went on to form sparta. While the sparta guys are talented, Omar and Cedric WERE at the drive in which is where sparta has fallen short. They lost their 2 creative geniouses to Mars Volta.[Edited on August 26, 2008 at 7:32 PM. Reason : ]
