^^yeah i'm no help there. i've never used it in single mode since i'm the only one who lives in my house
9/17/2008 2:48:17 PM
So you use one box for 2 TVs, correct? Is there a second auxiliary box that runs to your TV2? How does that work?
9/17/2008 3:48:31 PM
Yeah, one box for two TVs.There is just an output on the main receiver that feeds back into the cable wiring in the house. It modulates it so its on a Antenna channel, like channel 60 i think is the default. You tune the other TV in your house to channel 60, and voila.
9/17/2008 4:00:24 PM
We have the same scenario at your house. So far we have just been leaving it in single mode for now. If we need to watch different things, then I manual switch it to dual mode. It's a bit annoying, but single mode is good for us about 95% of the time.A few annoyances with the 722 so far is that if I have 2 scheduled recordings coming up, it begins to count down with 2 minutes to go if I am watching live TV. That part is great, but if you do not turn off the box or possible watch a prerecorded show, the box skips your lowest priority recording. I think it should default to recording both shows. The one nice thing that it did do is find the skipped show at a later broadcast and record it. I'm not sure if it intentionally skipped the recording beacause it found a later one or not. I guess I will have to test it more. The other thing that really annoys me is that if you are watching live TV and decide you like the program and want to save it, you hit the record button. If you do this it only starts recording the program and you miss everything you have already watched. You can get around this by rewinding to the beginning of the show and then hitting record. Why are their multiple listings for the same channels. Most of my channels have numbers in the 100s and in the 9000s?
9/17/2008 9:52:53 PM
I did notice the channel duplication, but one is the HD version and one is the SD version. The other duplication I get is the locals. I have a set of locals in the 00*-* channels, and a set in the 9000's.I set up a favorites list that lists only the channels we watch, so we dont have to see all that other crap in the guide (PPV, etc...).
9/17/2008 10:39:05 PM
I don't have any SD channels, so I guess it just duplicates what would have been SD to use the 9000s.
9/18/2008 6:44:38 AM
there are duplicate channels because originally they were all in SD and in the 100s. when they started to add a bunch of HD channels they grouped them all in the 9000s for convenience*...although some are still found only in the 300s AND if you hit the guide button multiple times you can make it show only HD channels (which i don't like to do).*for example, channel 184 is animal planet, and there's a SD and HD version there...but there's also another HD channel in the 9000s.i like that they're grouped together, a lot actually, but i wish they would move those in the 300s to that same group.as far as local channels, they used to only be found in the 8000s. with the recent big push to HD, they made the local channels whatever number they actually are when found OTA so that the HD and SD versions show up side by side. i do wish that on my TV2, which is a SD tv (and the box knows this), it would automatically go to the SD channel 005-00.[Edited on September 18, 2008 at 8:47 AM. so it seems like the TV2 is downconverted to 480imy second TV is HD...that would look shitty as balls

so i have now gotten 3 different answers from online chat, regarding the 722 dvrdo I need to connect a phone line to it? if I don't do I get charged an extra fee? if so, can I connect it to my internet router instead?thanks Bobby
2/23/2009 11:35:52 PM
Yes you can hook it up to your router, and no, you shouldnt be charged the $5 fee. Occasionally youll get the message on screen "to avoid a $5 service charge, make sure to have your dvr connected to a phone line or internet connection", but Ive verified from my bill that you arent charged in that case (I have the VIP722 as well).
2/24/2009 12:27:07 AM
thanks Contra. looks like i'll be dropping cable this weeki do think the $40 fee to enable the external hard drive feature is lame as hell, but that will be made up by my savings in one month
2/24/2009 1:14:00 AM
Correct on no charge if you connect to your internet service. At least Dish supports external HDDs unlike TWC which does not acknowledge their existence. Also, the $40 fee is for your account, not the DVR, so if you have other receivers that are compatible, you can move the external drive to any reciever on your account. Also, if you upgrade receivers, it should still work unlike TWC Crapigator boxes.Let me know if you want a referral code. Often the deals are slightly better with a code.
2/24/2009 8:46:09 AM
they recently dropped the $5 charge for not being connected to a phone line or the internet (about fucking time ), although you might have to have a Duo receiver for this to qualify, i'm not sureof course, they also recently upped the price of their TurboHD packages by $10 each too, so...[Edited on February 24, 2009 at 9:01 AM. I've been slamming TWC every chance I can for the past few months. I've been immensely happy with my dish service. In over a month of having it there have been 3 little issues (one movie didn't record fully, 1 show had a little bit of pixelation for a few minutes, and House had some sort of weirdness last night) compared to daily frustrations with TWC. And the 722 is sick fast compared to the 8300HDC.If you need internet, do what I am doing:Switch to DSL. They'll require you to add a phone line ($22 month) but you'll get $125 rebate for doing this and their 7Mbps service has been perfectly speedy for me compared to TWC and about the same price. After you get the rebate (customer service rep said 3-4 weeks) you can drop the phone and keep the DSL (the rep actually told me to do this) or you can do what I'm going to do and switch to earthlink 7Mbps service for $29.95 for 6 months followed by $41.95/month after. This compares to TWC which is charging $50/month for this service. It takes some work, but you CAN get service at rates that make sense, not this inflated bullshit that the cable hawks are pushing on you.

this problem used to only occur on abc11, although i never had as much of a problem with it as my dad and cousin did (who live about 10 miles north of me), but i had a major problem with audio skipping on the same channel in recorded/paused shows. since then i've gotten a new box, but it didn't actually fix the problem since it's a dish network issue and not on my end.

2/24/2009 11:56:35 PM
i'm in rocky mount and get DSL through embarq for $14.99. $42 sounds ridiculous btw, what DSL info are you referring to?[Edited on February 25, 2009 at 8:16 AM. Reason : ]

How fast is your DSL? 1Mbs down?
2/25/2009 9:32:58 AM
yeah it's slow, but i don't use it for anything other than internet browsing/checking email. i don't play games online or download anything (except for rock band tracks). i used to have the fastest they offered and even then it was only $30. it was a wasted of money for me and at the time that i changed it gas was $texas.
2/25/2009 9:37:32 AM
I can not speak for all areas..But in the Triangle, both RR and Earthlink are TWC.I switched from RR a couple years ago and did not even have to change the cable modem.....the bill just went down.

why the fuck is it every time there's something i want to watch on FOX the channel messes up?i wish U-Verse would hurry up and get here

i spazzed out friday night. TWC box reset and I hopped on the computer and ordered DirecTV. We'll see how this goes.

Is anyone else having trouble with the Dishonline service? I keep getting "Processing your..." and it just hangs. I did the diagnostic for a broadband connection and it is live. I know it worked a few months ago when I tried it.

You guys seen the new Dish 922?Has slingbox built in.Pretty snazzy.
4/12/2009 12:09:21 PM
Is it out yet? That's what I'm waiting on before I sign up for Dish.
4/12/2009 1:38:51 PM
comedy central HD just showed up for me the other day (or maybe i just finally noticed it)thx Dish
4/12/2009 2:45:28 PM
No, they just added 4-5 new HD channels this week. Spike and Comedy were the two that I cared about. So yeah, when that VIP822 actually starts being deployed, that's when I sign up.
4/12/2009 4:40:07 PM
i think i'm going to ramp down to TurboHD Bronzeother than the Science Channel and Animal Planet, i really don't know why i have Gold
4/12/2009 4:59:37 PM
Spike, Comedy, VH1, MTV, CMT
4/12/2009 5:07:36 PM
Also Nick and BET.But it looks like the only HD Channels that got added to Turbo was Comedy, CMT, and Spike. The other ones got added to the basic service + HD package. So for a service that got billed as "All the HD Channels that we provide", TurboHD is no longer that. From the forums I've been reading it looks like Dish might be having a riot on their hands soon. Personally, I don't care, cause like I said, the only 2 channels I would have cared about got added to Turbo (and the lowest tier even), but I can see why someone with gold would be pissed. If you buy something that's billed as all the HD, you should get all the HD, both current, and future.]

i was wondering what was up with Nick showing up in the HD guid but being blocked out[Edited on April 12, 2009 at 5:20 PM. Reason : i'm switching to u-verse when/if it gets here anyway though]
4/12/2009 5:20:01 PM
^^ funny I don't get BET in HD... not that I ever watch it anyway.
4/12/2009 5:54:06 PM
I called them and griped about the inconsistencies too. It says clearly on their channel lineup that is posted on their site that Turbo HD Bronze includes all of the HD channels in the America 100 pack. Now that Nick, MTV, and VH1 are HD they should be included in Bronze. Dish needs to get their shit straight, I'm so close to canceling and switching to UVerse, and would have already if UVerse pricing wasn't so stupid too.
4/16/2009 9:32:31 AM
you really miss mtv & vh1 enough to get that pissed?i mean i agree they should fix it, but i just didnt think anybody actually watched those channels beyond middle/high school.does dish actually say anything about the vip822 & 922 boxes on their site? i'm not seeing it.[Edited on April 16, 2009 at 10:41 AM. 4/16/2009 10:40:52 AM
No Nick is the reason I'm pissed. I have a Dora crazed toddler in my house and it would be nice to DVR episodes for those times when mom and dad need some quiet in the house. And it's not so much the content of the other channels as the inconsistency. Dish has the best priced HD offerings out there but their customer service and and service in general is so inconsistent at times. I kinda want to try out UVerse too so I was looking for chances to call them up and complain so I could either get better pricing or ammo to cancel.I am glad that they added Comedy Central to the Bronze lineup, that was one channel I definitely missed before.
