i agree that the article is stupid...just trying to rile people up. TOB will do fine at NCSU

however, to say that PJ is overrated, or to rag on navy for their schedule, or any of that other crap makes you people sound just like the naysayers who dissed florida over hiring urban meyer (oh, the sec defenses are too fast, huh? the gimmick offense won't work in a BCS conference, huh?)

and i'm sure there won't be any pro-quality running backs wanting to play in an offensive system that lead the country in rushing for 3 straight years...i mean he only developed one guy at navy into a backup for the patriots

we'll find out soon enough.

personally, i don't think he'll have that much success. i don't think they'll be bad, but i don't think he'll take gt to any next level or national contention.

First off comparing PJ to Urban Meyer is ridiculous, taking Utah to a BCS game is way more impressive than winning some bowl games at Navy. Secondly, Navy lead the country in rushing for 3 years because they run like 3 passing plays per game...any school who almost never throws the ball can rack up a ton of rushing yards.

armorfrsleepit's funny because on page 1 you pimped TOB for his run of 2nd and 3rd tier bowl games, but dismissed PJ for his. and yes i think it's just as impressive to win 10 games in a season, beat notre dame, win 5 straight CiC trophies, and go to 5 straight bowl games at navy as it is for utah to go to a bcs bowl game

PS last year Navy was also 22nd in total offense and 10th in scoring offense. oh, and 14th in passing efficiency

i was going to write a lot of other shit, but then it occurred to me you're just ignorant and it would be a waste of time. "

Im not trying to call you out or anything here, so dont get pissed at me.

But, TOB was not coaching in that Navy/BC bowl game, we already hired him away and the D coordinator was at the helm.

As far as navy goes, they werent bad, but the pass efficiency, your going to have a higher efficiency when you only do like 5 passes per game.

i realized that and went to edit...you got me

well, i guess i can put it like this...navy got 1700 less yards than NC State did last year on 366 less passes....when navy did attempt a pass, they averaged over 9 yards per attempt

i honestly don't know why i bother...i was pissed when state didn't hire PJ as i knew he was bound to leave navy...i was more aggravated when another acc team did. i guess you'd have to have suffered through the shitty navy football of the last 1990's and early 2000's as a student and alumni to realize just how amazing a job he did there

That has everything to do with BC's shitty fan base and nothing to do with TOB's coaching ability (they won 10 games this past regular season under a different coach and still went to a garbage bowl)

Quote :

you are fucking stupid then, wow they beat one of the worst Notre Dame teams in history thats real impressive, and they got to all those bowls by playing a bunch of shitty teams constantly (their strength of schedule last season was 107 out of 119 DI teams). Coaching an unbeaten Utah team and winning a BCS game there obviously blows any of PJ's accomplishments out of the water.

Quote :
"oh, and 14th in passing efficiency"

it's easy to be super efficient in passing if you only throw the ball 5 times a game

dude, there is no reason for navy to ever beat notre dame, no matter how bad ND is...notre dame consistently has bigger, faster, stronger, etc players than navy. as PJ said once, ND has 25 parade all americans, navy has 25 guys who march in parades. not to mention the fact that navy beat notre dame despite having the worst defense they ever had under PJ

and just to be clear, you continue to ding a coach who runs more than passes, regardless of the fact that when he runs, he puts up 50 more yards per game than any other team and when he passes he nearly averages a first down per ATTEMPT?

and let's not forget...urban meyer won that fiesta bowl with a #1 draft pick at QB...navy won their games with MAYBE a dozen 2-star recruits. look, it's clear you have no understanding of the severe limitations service academy sports have and how impressive it is for them to win games, regardless of their strength of schedule

Dude, I'm not saying he's a bad coach or anything close to that, but don't be a homer and act like he's the second coming of Bear Bryant. Let's not forget that Notre Dame team also lost to Air Force and got blown the fuck out by a very mediocre Georgia Tech team, so you can ramble all you want about service academy limitations or the lack of 5 star players but it's not going to make beating a 3-9 Notre Dame team seem super impressive.

Quote :
"urban meyer won that fiesta bowl with a #1 draft pick at QB"

Urban Meyer made Alex Smith the #1 draft pick, it's not like he was an All-American coming out of high school or anything

Again, I don't think Paul Johnson is a bad coach by any stretch, I just don't think he was the right fit here and I'm not convinced he's going to be very successful in a BCS conference running a triple option offense.

is it really? maybe Weis will get things back on the upswing but did you see them play last year? speed is something they did not have

they probably still have better talent than Navy, but not by much anymore

not saying they are doing anything with the talent, but just pure talent, they are loaded compared to Navy. Clausen played like shit but he alone probably has more talent than all of Navy's QBs put together

they still have good talent at some of the skill positions, but everywhere else the cupboard is kinda bare...all the ballers go to an SEC school or a sunny Florida or California school...it could turn around but compared to their storied past, they are a bad football team right now...i do think they'll win 8-9 games this year though...but maybe I have too much confidence in Weis

^HA! TOB would probably stare a hole right through his face. To echo what you said, in the interview with Packman, in response to Packman saying something like, "given what NC State needs... I think you're the perfect fit for NC State," TOB said, "Well I hope I am, b/c I'd like to be here for a long time!"

That comment is at a little over 1/2 way through:

If you want to be real technical, he is a half a decade to retirement.

Do you watch his interviews at all? The comparisons to Herb in regards to personality and exciting the fan base are apt. I don't know that PJ is any more animated, but he certainly can't be any less animated. And if you think TOB is going to be coaching at NCSU for 10 years, then you're even more retarded than I imagined. The point was, he is older than PJ, he is nearing the end of his coaching years, and he is certainly less incentivized than PJ to really embrace what it means to be a Wolfpacker.

And you'd love to see me call him that to his face? Are you just a bitch because, or do you really not have anything useful to say? I'm a TOB fan you ass clown. But unlike you, I can be a TOB fan AND simultaneously entertain the thought of PJ as our coach or think of comparisons between the two. I can't help that you don't seem to have much capability to process thoughts in any constructive manner and you'd rather pop your pretty little vagina shaped mouth off with comments likes that.

Do you know what incentivized means? Maybe I should have changed it to "inclined", or any other word. It doesn't even have to do with speculation. It's just a laying out of the facts and seeing that the path for PJ to become an ardent Wolfpacker is certainly more clear cut than for Tom O'Brien.

Please, please try to stay up. I'm not that smart of a guy about some of this stuff, but you're making me look like a genius. It isn't trolling, it's how I honestly feel.

the thing about his system is it, more or less, relies on defense being bad and slow.

urban meyer and his spread is a bad example, b/c that relies on players being fast. give him faster players and it'll get better.

i think if you give paul johnson better defenses, his system'll get worse. but i could be wrong, we'll see.
