9/2/2009 12:56:31 AM
how about Jay Z for flat out ripping a KRS album title, and then making 2 sequels? And no, biting is not biting, get off Chuck D's dickIf Bone and Eazy make a song the same as the Isley Brothers made 20 years earlier, but its basically just taking the song title or hook, its not nearly the same thing some bitch from Brooklyn acting like he's god and better than people like Biggie and Big L, who if they were still alive, Jay would still be some mediocre ass catbut i've been hatin on jay for like 12 years for being a punk faggot, dont mind me
9/2/2009 12:56:52 AM

9/2/2009 9:41:14 AM
and for the love of god, why does every thread about a new jay-z album or song end up getting flamed by some assclowns going off about "he stole a KRS album title" or some other OLD shit. If you don't like THIS album, talk about THAT here. But I don't go on and on about some random ass underground backpacker in whatever thread might come up, so leave that childish shit alone.

sometimes... fuckin every time. And I'm sorry, I don't care for old school like you do. I'll take Jay over Rakim, Herc, KRS, whoever. I know you'l disagree, and some other old heads will come in and say I don't know shit about rap b/c of that. But it's the same as basketball to me. I'll take Lebron over Elgin Baylor, Jordan over Dr. J, etc... So we disagree, big deal. No need to keep throwin jabs in Jay threads so that we don't end up talkin about the album, but get bogged down in this dumb shit time after time. But for one last time, I'll tackle your points:-lazy style: ok, you must not be checking out his catalogue, as he swtiches his flow up all the damn time, w/i songs, w/i albums.-bit biggie lyrics: THIS SHIT... again, it's not like he's copied whole fuckin songs here. Sure he's used some of BIGs lines, but 1)he's not trying to take credit for it; 2)he's said before he does it as an homage to BIG; and 3)he's not the only rapper (even ones that you like) to use other's lines-Sampling from Annie: really? that's what put it over the edge for you? really?

pffffhahahhahah I really typed "reasonably"
9/7/2009 3:16:41 PM
and i'm not really making claims about Jay being any worse than he was in 96.it's more of a commentary on current rap as compared to just about anything released between 89 and 98. if i were to really sit and recollect everything for an hour or so, i could name for you 50 albums that were better than just about anything released in the past 10 years.and i really feel that it's because there was a lot more honesty to it, and it was still a relatively (ok, very) fresh artform. now, i can honestly make the claim that it is 95% money making. and the formula for doing so within hip hop is pretty damned simple, as opposed to back then....lyrically, at least. I can still find a lot of beats i rather like for the most part, but MCs are straight out fucking lazy now. generally speaking.[Edited on September 7, 2009 at 3:22 PM. Reason : afsasdssss]

i really like "empire state of mind." Alicia Keys kills the hooknot loving the rest of it so far. "thank you" was probably my second favorite. i do not like "hate" at all

Everytime I hear So Ambitious the part with Alicia Keys reminds me of the background music in Jesus Walks.

^^ ooh, that would be tough for some of those years! not trying to be a dick, i'm just trying to think through this myself...iirc, 2002 was a pretty awful year for rap albums (but not the only one). and i can't really think of anything from that year that i still listen to regularly (except maybe "phrenology"). whereas i remember a single day in 1998 that had the releases of "stankonia", "in my lifetime vol III", and black star's first album. anyhow, bp3 is decent, i'm giving it some spins, but it's not really a classic or anything. the song with jeezy is really starting to grow on me...

^ x5, my bad, it was "aquemini", not "stankonia". and i screwed up the jay-z, it was "vol 2 hard knock life". but i'm getting old and album titles blend together. either way, sep 29, 1998 was ridiculous. brand nubian "the foundation" came out that day as well, i dropped $50 at record exchange for these 3 cd's + black star. hurt that student budget!and ribs, i hear you, nas, scarface, and the clipse had solid albums in 2002 as well. i forgot about "the fix", was definitely in heavy rotation for a while. but even with those albums, if you were to match that year up against years in the early/mid 90's, it wouldn't be close. let me go wth 1994 - biggie's "ready to die", outkast "southernplayalistic...", nas' "illmatic", common's "resurrection", method man's "tical", scarface "the diary", redman "dare iz a darkside", gang starr "hard to earn", pete rock and cl smooth "the main ingredient"...and the list could go on. just seems that everyone today pretty much raps about the same stuff in pretty much the same way - not that people aren't as talented as in the 1990s, but the diversity isn't what it used to be (or at least you have to dig WAY deeper to find it).[Edited on September 10, 2009 at 12:43 AM. whoa whoa! i actually have always been a fan of Jay-Z, the original Blueprint is one of my favorite albums of all time. dude makes enjoyable music, and i think bp3 is one of the better releases this year. can always count on him for a few bangers on every album, and this one is definitely better than kingdom come or some of his others. word up.
