during break in, use whatever the dealership uses or a similar grade. no need for anything special.i wait until wear metals stabilize, that's when i switch to synth.

breaking in an engine is fine to do with synthetic. if it caused any harm or were "too slick" then i highly doubt car manufacturers would allow new cars to arrive "factory filled" with it.

Here's a question: Should you change your oil every six months regardless of the number of miles you put on the car, or should you just change every time you reach that mileage interval?

get your oil analyzed.

AMSoil @ 25k intervals in the jeep, Rotella @ 5k intervals in the truck. I'd use AMSoil in the truck but I can't afford 4 gallons of the shit all at once Buddy of mine ran AMSoil for 25k miles, had it sent to the lab every 5k or so. At the end of his 25k miles it came up needing to be changed but not dangerous at all, same results as regular oil at 3-5k. When you run AMSoil at 25k miles it ends up being cheaper than Mobil1 per mile and way way cheaper than dino oil per mile. It all just depends on if you're comfortable with it.If you're in charlotte the Napa on Sunset Ave. carries AMSoil, otherwise http://www.4x4oil.com

Changed my oil yesterday. 5 quarts of Mobil One and a Purelator Pure One filter was $38 at Advanced.Unfortunately while under my car I discovered that a recent bottoming out bent the fuck out of my exhaust header Looks like one of the 2 pipes was put in a vise and flattened out about 3/4 of an inch, UGH. Also noticed that the flexible rubber cover for the shift linkage is broken. God only knows how long thats been that way...
