That does look good... I'd personally make it a lil more like a modern rat with candy red wheels or something. .But i have a taste for the tacky

i like that matte finish C5 coupe a LOT. the 'vert, not so much. it's ok, but nothing great.what made that coupe a high-dollar job?
7/29/2008 11:32:39 PM
every mexican with a civic does flat black these days, kinda defeats the purpose of it standing out. I know it's rarely seen on a vette, but it's already been done on a lambo and a lotus, at the least, so blah. urban camo vette maybe?

^^to make one look really nice, finish it with a clear coat, etc. it takes just as much labor and the materials can be a little more expensive. also, while it does hide any future scratches, dirt, water marks, or whatever really well, it amplifies any existing imperfections in the actual surface of body panels and any misaligned pieces. so, there goes extra prep labor. finally, since no vehicle comes that way from the factory you've got doorjambs, inner fenders, trunk, etc. to paint as well. more labor. a lot of these flat/matte/satin jobs showing up on exotics, big and rob's tahoe, and all that shit are probably $8-10k.^yeah, but the "real" point and why hotrodders started doing it in the first place wasn't to stand out. it was simply to have a utilitarian paint job. it protected the metal, gave a uniform color to a vehicle that probably had various color panels from building it, didn't show scratches or scuffs, dust and dirt blended in, and it didn't flake or chip easy.if i ever really did something like that to mine, it would probably just involve scuffing the original paint, fixing the crack in the driver front fender, and then just a single coat of a flat red of some sort. half the entertainment would just be laughing at all the gay purists on corvetteforum or somewhere flip out about it.

oh yeah, that's definitely the number one reason and motivation behind it all. people either not being able afford nice paint in a build yet or simply not caring enough about it. can you imagine a rat rod or budget lead sled sporting a super shiny candy or pearl or something? in addition to the obvious primers, non glossy legitimate paints and clears have always been around. especially in western and northern parts of the country where the climates are harsh on anything shiny. certainly not to the extent they are today though, and not on the east coast. there's even a company now called hot rod flatz that sells shit that's SUPPOSED to be an oxidized and faded/rusted look. that's dumb.personally, it's not that i don't like the way nice paint looks. i do, and even prefer it. there's no way i'd take a shiny new car like some of these people and ruin it. i like things that are different and go against the grain, but not at any expense. i'm all for it if its something that already needs paint though, new cheap paint still looks better than nice old paint with patches of peeling clear coat or lots of scratches, etc. i just can't stand spending money or a lot of time on simply looking good, i'd rather be dropping a new motor in or even just out enjoying the vehicle. hell, i even repainted my go kart a bright blue with silver metal flake and a gloss clear when i was about 12, but it was still from a rattle can.

what's that place like these days? i remember hearing some shady rumors about them years ago. not sure that it's the same ownership now though, i heard it was sold shortly after.

ok okfine!

ima swap the c5 front end for the JDM version (got a good deal on it)
7/30/2008 10:59:12 PM
sweet, it's 10 times better. nah, all the vette people just go bonkers of any of the "euro spec" parts as they call them. h4 headlight housings (which are designed to only be used on vehicles driving on the left i might add), the amber tail lights and side markers, differential coolers (which are actually somewhat worthwhile if you track the car), and a bunch of other crap i can't think of right now.it's funny you say that, though. i once saw a thread on corvette forum where a guy referred to a certain front/rear fascia as being "what was used for the jdm market". it turns out he had no idea what jdm stood for or meant, he just thought it was the term for any parts used in other countries besides the u.s. furthermore, the body parts he was referring to were the tigershark pieces, which are just an aftermarket offering for changing up the look on the front/rear. i think they're even made in the u.s., lol.[Edited on July 31, 2008 at 1:04 AM. Reason : oh, and these fools LOVE to meet up all the time and have circlejerks about their cars...]

yeah, my house is right down the road from there off of buck jones so i ride by a lot to drool at the cars. i figured what i heard was just speculation over the new place, it wasn't from anyone really credible. people always love to hate on anyone that has anything nice.
7/31/2008 11:30:19 AM
^^^ vette people do that too... that sounds like some VW/BMW sh*t
7/31/2008 1:36:40 PM
i'm pretty sure they probably invented the concept considering it's going on 55 years of production.
7/31/2008 2:51:08 PM
here you go Quinn, jump on it! even with shipping it or a plane ticket/drive back that could be a sweet deal. clean frc's are few and far between.http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=2083631

driving XC is totally worthwhile if you've never done it, too. i've done it twice, now, and I'd do it again without hesitation (especially in a c5 'vette).
8/1/2008 7:42:29 PM
god i wish i had the cash laying around right now, I'd buy that FRC today
8/1/2008 7:45:23 PM
So, FRCs are cool but if you're doing a C5, I'd rather it be a Z06. Put that aside, the car in question is red, with chrome wheels. Pretty much the two things I'd really like to avoid on a Corvette, particularly the C5, but I guess that's just me.
8/2/2008 2:29:51 PM
depends on your plans. if you're staying stock or very close to it, zo6. if you've got some mods planned, frc all the way and you'll still come out with a better/faster car for the price of a stock zo6. they're the lightest of the bunch too.
8/2/2008 2:33:35 PM
yea, the cost difference from coupe/frc to Z06 isn't worth it IMO.. for a few grand in addition to the base cost of the FRC you can have a car that will destroy a stock Z06..and have about the same money involved..although some people just like saying they have a Z06 I suppose
