thats what he's done. i believe the permission is there. but its where you gonna race at that is the Q.

called the RBC center and they said that THSCC can't have events there anymore because they quote "can't allow racing in parking lots". what about the new lot separating carter finley stadium and the rbc center. does anyone know who that belongs to? the centennial authority or only ncsu?

not quite sure. ncrscca expressed some interest in hosting an event in Raleigh. if we co-run an event with them, then it would be for everybody, but ideally we want it for students only or free for students and everyone else has to pay

just an fyi for everyone, things have gotten this far and even further in the past only to be shut down once ncsu higher ups caught wind of it and for lack of any suitable location. it was attempted at least 2-3 times in my years at ncsu, and i know of 1 other occasion it was tried since then. that makes this at least the 5th try at it, and i'm not seeing anything new. attempts at a university sponsored off road club have been made as well. i believe that was actually eventually established, but there is NO funding or real endorsement from ncsu and access to set any kind of trails or course up at places like centennial campus were flatly denied. i'm not trying to be a negative nancy, but i think you're wasting your time. if this is ever going to happen, there needs to be some new approach and some serious backing from more than just students or a grassroots scene like thscc. you need a fresh and innovative idea. i don't have one, but that's what it's going to take. for example, can you imagine how many times the rbc center has been called and asked that question? student legal always gives false hope. their job is to simply interpret any laws/rules/regulations, not to be realistic about things. they're not even too good at that except for common student issues like housing.baonest mentioned the magic word here. liability. ncsu isn't taking the responsibility on, and neither are local businesses that might have a suitable lot. this might be realistic at a private school, but not here. i haven't seen anything mentioned about event insurance. how are you going to address that? it just doesn't work when a few people or even a single person has the power to say "no". just look at the recent story posted in another thread about the uncc car club being involved in street racing. that's a school's worst nightmare about a club, and you can bet the story is on someone's desk at every state supported school in nc.i hope i'm wrong and something magically changes. we'll see. sounds like the same old story to me though, you're starting to hit the brick wall.

unc charlotte allows autox on campus through the ncrscca. they offered to extend their event insurance to us if we cannot afford our own. we have a few new lots in mind that would actually work. i think the key is finding staff or administration that are into cars - theyre more likely to back it than the average joe. We haven't approached the administration quite yet because what we really need is a complete packet that has as many holes eliminated as possible, as well as backing from several administration or staff members.[Edited on August 19, 2008 at 6:56 PM. yeah, i bet anything like that at uncc either gets disbanded or will come under close scrutiny now though. that's promising that they've offered to extend coverage though. your last sentence is the key. find that, and you might have something. as i mentioned above, that's one of the two main barriers that's always stopped this before. the other being a suitable venue. uncc is a little bit of an exception because of their motorsports related degree programs. they've got that big support i'm talking about (nascar, among others).[Edited on August 19, 2008 at 6:55 PM. Reason : have you actually measured these lots? those are pretty big footage requirements you listed]

basically, we need to find out everything about every administrative figure from the SORC office, to student affairs, to the university council, to the university executive board and the board of trustees and find out who is most likely to support us. For example, the Vice Chancellor & General Counsel has served as the Vice Chancellor & General Counsel of the Texas A&M University System, home of the tamscc (http://www.tamscc.org). A very serious plan of action needs to be laid out before any action is taken in order to make this a success. Sneaking this under the table as a club sport that needs a place to practice just isn't going to work. Everything needs to be completely transparent, obvious as day, and supported by the right people. In terms of a good lot, the lot that is being built here (google coordinates 35.802456, -78.719594) meets all the requirements, given that they will not install those stupid concrete parking barriers in-between rows.[Edited on August 19, 2008 at 8:43 PM. this is the way i see it....a lot of the clubs around here have some sort of connection with the land they are using. whether it be a personal connection, or something that has just been for a long time and they just keep it that way.like ivan said, its failed before. i remember there was something like this a few years ago and i showed some big interest only to hear nothing else about it. heck, we even made a TWW autocross trip to Gboro one year. haha.either way.. its all about connections right now (IMO).. so you need to find someone on the NCSU head nigga in charge committee that is big into motor sports (hell, tractor pull or something). and try to get their backing.you gotta realize this is/will be a full time job, so with school starting (if you're going) then it might be hard. me and some guys are trying to head the NC region SCCA RallyX committee because people are too lazy to do it. i mean, try to get some backing from big groups, have some sort of vouches.but yeah. insurance and liability will suck hard.[Edited on August 19, 2008 at 9:32 PM. oh dont worry. setting up shit like this has been my fulltime job for the last 2 years, on top of my 2 majors

now, if anyone wants to REALLY help let me know. And by that I mean no BS help, so a time investment. First step would be for anyone whos interested to join the Student Government in order to meet all the important figures and know them on a first-name basis. Another obvious benefit would be getting us some monies for insurance.[Edited on August 22, 2008 at 5:48 PM. Reason : -]

FYI, I seem to recall my uncle mentioning that he was part of an NCSU autocross club in the early 70's. If it's been done before, then maybe it can be done again. G'luck!
