The assholes who get pissed off at cars can suck a dickthe assholes on bikes who run red lights can suck a dickIt is extremely simple to share the roadIf people obeyed the laws and didn't get self-righteous about shit a lot of these problems would be solved.

NPR did a special on those guys. They rode out on the interstate the other day. One of them is going to get smashed. One of them is going to die. Then they'll bitch about it. I'll find it hard to be sympathetic.
7/3/2008 12:06:35 AM
I'm going to agree with BBR on this. The recreational bicyclist using rural highways contribute nothing but endangerment to themselves and motorist. I can't tell you how many times I come up on packs of riders that do nothing but back up traffic for miles and create an unsafe environment for drivers, especially in Chatham county. Looks like she had it coming to her.
7/3/2008 12:34:26 AM
You guys should just be glad the bicycle laws aren't like they are in Japan.Japanese laws says that the bike ALWAYS has the right of way. Doesn't matter if the bicyclist is being an asshole and breaking the law, the car is still 100% at fault.
7/3/2008 2:19:18 AM
Current bicycle traffic laws were written back when bikes were actually used for transportation. Recreational bikes aren't used for transportation. The dead giveaway is the $100 spandex. I say they're not entitled to the right of way and the law should be changed accordingly.I go out of my way to give people in street/work clothes on bicycles the right of way.
7/3/2008 8:43:12 AM
^ Did you ever consider they wear the biking clothes during the commute and change into work clothes at work? I personally am not going to getting sweaty and nasty in a suit just so someone can determine if I'm a worker bee or recreational bee.

why would anyone want to assault an innocent child over an internet argument about bikes

haha the critical mass people piss me off. Even though i have a bike rack and bike on my civic half the time i still honk at them when a bunch of them run red lights and hold up cars with green lights. They can't do that shit if they expect ANYONE to take them serviously.

^so you think everyone should be forced to drive 5-10 miles in a car to get to a gym to take a "spinning class"? How does that make more sense than just riding around your neighborhood?
7/3/2008 9:45:37 AM
we actually have a pack of bickers that come into work like the 2nd picture...we have showers here and they shower off, keep a change of clothes at their desk, and carry on like normal.[Edited on July 3, 2008 at 9:47 AM. Reason : d]

I don't care where you exercise, or how much gas you use doing it.What I do know is that public roads are not the place for leisure exercise, when doing so obviously disrupts their purpose(the efficient movement of commercial goods and individuals).^As long as the ride single file on multi-lane highways, I have no problem with that. If they regularly have 100 cars waiting behind them just so they can get a little burn on during their commute, they should do something else.[Edited on July 3, 2008 at 9:51 AM. Reason : .]
7/3/2008 9:48:09 AM
^^ Yeah, I used to work at a place that had about 5 guys who would come into work dressed like that too.

7/3/2008 9:48:45 AM
7/3/2008 9:51:04 AM
^exactly. Myrtle beach strip? (hate it). Blue Ridge Parkway? (love it) but both are basically used for leisure driving/motorcycling. Yeah most of the big companies in Charlotte have bike teams and many of them organize and bike to work.
7/3/2008 9:52:28 AM
7/3/2008 9:54:34 AM
I agree. If it comes down to it, commercial trucks and traffic should have priority. Bike(motorcycle) week in Myrtle Beach is a perfect example, the whole damn city grinds to a halt. I'm sure the locals hate it.But motorcycles and sports cars typically don't disrupt the flow of traffic, they get the fuck on out of the way.
7/3/2008 9:54:45 AM
oh man i loved Amsterdam:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qk6YxhKH590Didn't see any car parking lots (all underground), bikes always had more space than cars, and always had the right of way.smc needs to watch this video. And people wonder why Americans are fat. I didn't see a single obese person in Holland. heh. [Edited on July 3, 2008 at 10:04 AM. Reason : .]
7/3/2008 9:57:31 AM
haha the thread is out of garage your redneck logic and not comprehending that a tax on bikes will just make people stop riding them won't make you win anymore... dur dur dur GG bbr.
7/3/2008 9:57:42 AM
bottom line is that bikes, by law, have the same rights to the roads as cars (not including highways of course). yes, it may cause inconveniences, but that's life. suck it up, or push for changes in the law.if you cause furthur problems by aggravating or assualting bikers, then you're more a problem than the bikers.[Edited on July 3, 2008 at 10:00 AM. Reason : f]
7/3/2008 9:58:38 AM
^^^ Yeah Amsterdam was awesome for that! I liked how the bike lanes even had their own traffic lights. US cities could learn a lot from the Dutch in terms of bicycles.
7/3/2008 10:02:29 AM
Tax? I just want them to stay out of my way.I've used a bike for my commute many times in my life, and I never inconvenienced a single driver(rode on sidewalks, stuck to the curb, pulled over to let traffic pass, didn't weave in traffic, etc) I don't see why these exercise pack riders can't give me the same courtesy.
7/3/2008 10:02:44 AM
Riding your bike on the sidewalk is illegal and will fuck up a road bike
7/3/2008 10:03:27 AM
7/3/2008 10:04:16 AM
1.) It's typically safer for me and everyone else so fuck the law. 2.) My bike is not a pussy.

^but you said:
7/3/2008 10:15:01 AM
Yeah, apparently most bicyclists are too stupid to do it safely.Well, it's been a pleasure trolling you guys as always. Let's do it again soon.
7/3/2008 10:16:35 AM
We don't mind if you look like a fucking idiot, we'll keep riding our bikes on the road, you'll keep waiting and crying on the internet about it. We win.
7/3/2008 10:20:23 AM
i saw a cyclist get pulled over by a cop car the other day for running a red light...it was pretty hilarious...its like cyclists think they can share the road just as much as cars but for some reason they don't have to follow traffic signals like cars do]
7/3/2008 10:22:48 AM
^yes i am ALLLL for cops pulling over bikes running red lights. Hell if i could pull over all the fuckers in critical mass who run lights in Charlotte i would. Pisses me off. They think it's some display showing they are better because they ride bikes, but it's just a bunch of wanna-be hipsters purposely trying to piss off drivers.
7/3/2008 10:24:38 AM
I don't really get the point of Critical Mass, unless it's just to piss people off.
7/3/2008 10:27:04 AM
Its original purpose was to clue people in to how bike unfriendly cities were. But breaking the law, and pissing off drivers is the EXACT OPPOSITE way to get people to vote for better bike regulations.
7/3/2008 10:32:52 AM
oh fuck me, here's neodata again telling us how great every other city in the world is. i hope you have that post saved or something, and don't waste the time typing it every time one of these threads happens. let me tell you again you ignoramus, large cities in the south ARE NOT COMPARABLE to the places you keep babbling about. it's useless to try and model this area after them. apples to oranges! maybe we could implement a COUPLE of ideas here and there in an alternate execution, but we can't just plop gaycyclelove, eu down as a template.tell you what, if i get you a peddle boat from pullen park will you take off across the atlantic to your promised land? take one of these other head in the clouds people with you. spandex must restrict the flow of blood to the brain. if this place sucks so much, gtfo. you're just the kind of self important ass that whines about everything, but does jack shit to work for a reasonable plan. it's fine, you just keep riding your bike around like a good boy, and the grown ups will call you in for dinner after some legitimate solutions and ideas get done.btw, i'm willing to bet some of these grand places implement some of the things i've typed about over and over in this thread.
