I will personally be making the same noises the kids will make during the film.

6/27/2008 2:40:19 AM
Loved it.LOVED IT.The first half hour is the most lyrical thing I've seen in years. It's Punch-Drunk Love with animated robots (and better editing). There's about ten minutes in the second act that drag, but I can forgive that...it's the segment that gets just a tad preachy and then the third act action kicks in.I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just say that there are a ton of winks, nods, and inside jokes related to space films that had me flipping out at every turn.I'll probably go again on Saturday.

If anyone is on the fence about seeing this, know this much: I took a pair of friends who hardly even knew the movie existed. They didn't recognize it by the title, and when I said it was about a robot, the response I got was, "Oh yeah, isn't that one of those animated childrens' films?"By the time we got five minutes into the first act, they both had turned to me and said, "This is already fucking awesome."Good stuff from Ratzenberger as always, BTW. ]
6/27/2008 3:20:15 AM
Also, Presto is awesome. It's easily in my top three shorts.
6/27/2008 4:40:42 AM
Sweet deal. vinylbandit has never steered me wrong on music, film, or hockey.

6/28/2008 12:26:20 AM
wow. that reviewer is shitty
6/28/2008 12:32:19 AM
FYI no one go see this at raleigh grande. the focus was all fucked up. i talked to who i think was the manager afterwards and he said all three films he got were like that and that was "how it was filmed"cha right.and by fucked up i mean the top of the screen was crisp and it got steadily less clear heading down[Edited on June 28, 2008 at 12:57 AM. ^ paging Thorsten
6/28/2008 12:58:08 AM
I thought it was fucking fantastic. The graphics were incredible at times, the music played is some of that old school stuff (I like) and the plot is decent. It went a little over the top with the insinuated messages on the way that we're leading our lives, but I definitely think it's the best animated film I've seen, especially with so little talking.
6/28/2008 1:29:25 AM
i was disappointed...it wasn't as good as i thought it would be. i'll watch monster house or meet the robinsons again before i'll watch this a second time.
6/28/2008 1:55:05 AM
i agree that it gets just a tad preachy (the aforementioned dragging ten minutes), but nowhere near as preachy as happy feet, and happy feet isn't fucking incredible for its first half hour
6/28/2008 3:28:13 AM
6/28/2008 8:59:51 AM
6/28/2008 9:31:39 AM
I don't think it was too overly preachy... I knew going in that it was a movie based off of how polluted things could get and I think they did an adequate job of portraying it. And I thought it was really funny the Captain's of the ship got progressively fatter. Also the part when they were with the crazy robots, running away from the "police" robots and they came to that big squad of them, then Wall-E cut loose the one with the crazy arms and he went ballistic on them, that was fucking hilarious.
6/28/2008 9:33:46 AM
So it's not often I see a kid's movie in the theater. What's the odds of dealing with little hellspawns making noise?
6/28/2008 1:20:11 PM
^ pretty goodthere weren't any rugrats at the midnight showing I went to, thank godyou'll likely have better luck the later you go see it
6/28/2008 1:31:03 PM
Yeah, later is better. The summer release kills the idea of seeing it early to avoid people. I saw it at midnight and there were still three or four kids at the screening. With that said, it's not the sort of movie that will bring giggles at every turn, so it might be okay.
6/28/2008 1:40:43 PM
Thanks for the heads up about Wall-E being out of focus at the Grande...I know in theater 7 (which is where you must have seen it) the courtains got stuck and you can see more of the screen than you are supposed so, which makes people think they are missing part of the movie when they see black screen...when actually there is just supposed to be a curtain there...but as far as a "out of focus" look goes, I didn't personally talk to anyone about it, but heard chatter on the radio, and when I walked in I thought it looked fine. I will be checking it out again today.Honestly, I think someone might have just been a bit off on the threading of the film and some manager might have been a little unclear as to what the problem was. I know there were only customer concerns with it during one show. And when I walked in it was still the short and looked fine to me. I'm sorry I failed you.But thanks for the heads up.[Edited on June 28, 2008 at 3:00 PM. Reason : .]
