the reason why SRI has that shoe for so much cheaper is because they make it cheaper than the more expensive shoe. They make a mid tier price for SRI and payless but the quality is horrible.

But i do know the camp moc is coming back in the fall. Not sure if it is for men's but I know it is for women's.

I tend to steer clear of fashion trends. I go for looks that are classic and that I can wear year in and year out. I'm not interested in a wardrobe that turns over every six months.

they try and make it look the exact same as the more expensive brand but it isn't. It's made in a cheaper factory and sold to mid-tier stores because they know their customer won't pay the original price for the shoe. The mid-tier store also gets it in a cheaper cost because they may not use the exact same materials.

Thats how converse sells their all star brand to DSW or shoe warehouses etc. Also Sperry also sells shoes at Payless but at a cheaper cost.

I've got like six weddings this Summer to attend between May and August. Five of them are gonna be outside and one of them is in Dallas, TX in the middle of July so it looks like unless I wanna roast myself I'm gonna need to invest in a good seersucker suit. I've looked around at some of the local men's formal wear stores and stuff and found a few but I haven't found too much info on dress shirts that you wear under the jacket.

Anyone who is well versed in seersucker, what type of material dress shirt would you recommend? I saw a number of linen dress shirts but they were really thin... thin enough where you could just about see through them. Obviously those would be pretty light and comfortable but I don't want to look like I'm going shirtless if I take off the jacket. Any recommendations? Also, would it be acceptable to have said dress shirt be short sleeve under the jacket?

I wore my seersucker suit to church on Sunday. I would say that it depends on how formal the wedding is. If its more on the formal side, I would wear a plain white cotton button-up shirt with a tie. If its casual I think you would probably be fine with a polo shirt. Do not wear a short sleeve button-up shirt.

BTW before Easter Belk's had Haspel Seersucker suits on sale for $180, that's a good quality brand and its about as cheap as you are going to find it.

as george costanza can tell you, cotton breathes. you might also want to look into lightweight italian cotton or linen for your suit.

I have a 4 pm wedding coming up. My girlfriend is afraid a seersucker suit is not appropriate because the reception will take place in the evening hours. My feeling is that this is the south, & its summer. Therefore, seersucker is always appropriate.

Agreed, but in NC during the summer, the sun doesn't set till 8pm. An outdoor 4pm wedding could see seersucker being justified. An indoor one, however, could not.


I wound up going with a suede belt from BB and a pair of green socks to match my green bow tie for the rehearsal dinner I've got coming up in July.

I'm a big fan of the seersucker. Own the blue/white shorts and a blue/white Jos A Bank suit. I don't really feel that the Jos A Bank suit has a heavy in the shoulders. I don't have a problem with it, but to each his own.

I typically wear the suit with a yellow, pink, green or red tie/bowtie. I feel that a blue tie is just too much blue. I like to have some color contrast.

^^ At the Richmond Riverrock festival I saw two contrasting examples of seersucker. The first was a girl in a seersucker dress, flip flops and a pink sash . . . this was ok until I saw the dog with a matching pink leash, pink collar and pink bow. That was just a bit over the top and she looked like she was too concerned with looking good to have a good time. Now the next guy had a blue shirt, blue/white pants with green martini glasses embroidered and a green tie that matched the glasses. The entire look was falling apart, disheveled, drunk and awesome. That was the guy you'd want to party with.


^ Jos a Bank has flat front trousers (as does the Brooks Brothers Fitzgerald Cut) but in both cases the jackets are fully lined and the BB cloth is just rather heavy for Seersucker. I don't know why someone would make a fully lined seersucker anything, defies logic to me.


Well crap, I finally found flat front Haspel trousers. Damnit. Oh well, next year.

Seersucker was outlawed here earlier this year since apparently the partners thought it didn't "convey the type of image we're trying establish here" which is total bullshit, since I've been here three years and our collective dress code has gone from Barney Stinson to Ted Mosby to the point where I could wear Gap Khaki's and a BR polo and fit in better than someone wearing bespoke. Now 2/3 of my summer wardrobe is fucked and I'll be goddamned if I'm going to wear dark blazers here every day when its 95 out. The corporate shift toward a more causal work environment is misguided when you're better off coming to work looking like Al Borland than Don Draper. Fuck it all.

They thought it made us look like assholes, even specifically telling me to "leave that frat shit at home". Their rationale is that most of our clients are European, and they think seersucker is regarded as part of the American preppy look and has thus been devalued and is not very often seen. While I understand it, I don't agree with it, nor do I think any potential clients would give a shit, let alone be offended by it. But they make the rules, and I grudgingly abide.
