So if they charge for it they have to give 30% of the profits to apple?
6/9/2008 2:16:21 PM
yes, 30% of the sales price goes to Jobs
6/9/2008 2:17:34 PM
^Yea, but you gotta get a License to be on the App Store right? They said 25k people applied and only 4k were approved.
6/9/2008 2:17:46 PM
Affirmative. I suppose that 30% is to go towards paying for the bandwidth & infrastructure primarily... with a little wedge for Steve's bonus.
6/9/2008 2:18:15 PM
6/9/2008 2:18:17 PM
pretty
6/9/2008 2:21:30 PM
3G!
6/9/2008 2:31:28 PM
alright, let's see those price plans, and AT&T is about to get a new customer!
6/9/2008 2:36:15 PM
6/9/2008 2:39:42 PM
HOW MUCH HOW MUCH HOW MUCH!!!???Stupid clapping fucks.8GB $199?]
6/9/2008 2:45:18 PM
gota wait until July for 3g
6/9/2008 2:46:42 PM
So I assume that price is still for new customers. Old customers are screwed?
6/9/2008 2:47:18 PM
$299 for 16gbavailable in white as well
6/9/2008 2:47:26 PM
6/9/2008 2:48:46 PM
It was just $600, not $800.
6/9/2008 2:50:35 PM
6/9/2008 2:50:54 PM
'Tis over.
6/9/2008 2:52:32 PM
Man as a current iPhone owner, I'm surprised how fast they went to 3G.A bit pissed too because I was an early adopter, right before the price cut (15 days to be exact).I hope they do some trade up program, but I know they won't.
6/9/2008 2:53:54 PM
So i'm already an at&t customer. Can i get the 3g 8 gig iphone for 199$?
6/9/2008 2:54:40 PM
gah, i wonder if a current iphone would even be worth selling
6/9/2008 2:54:57 PM
^^ Does At&t do 2 year commitments when you buy their phones? If you're currently in an agreement... I'd bet that you at the very least, have to sign a new two year agreement. But, depending on the deal apple & at&t struck, you might have to buy out your contract to upgrade.[Edited on June 9, 2008 at 2:59 PM. http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone?mco=MTE2NTQThis link states a minimum 2 year service agreement is required with AT&T.Check towards the bottom of the page[Edited on June 9, 2008 at 2:58 PM. Reason : lkk]
6/9/2008 2:58:20 PM
That sucks balls. Why can't i just buy the iphone and switch phones keeping my same contract? And what about all the current iphone users that want to get the new 3g one? Will they have to buy thier way out of the contract AND buy the 3g iphone?-Oh and what's the difference between 2g talk and 3g talk, besides 10 and 5 hour talk times? Does 3g sound that much better to cut the battery life in half? [Edited on June 9, 2008 at 3:09 PM. Reason : .]
6/9/2008 3:07:38 PM
^Good question. I'm not sure how they will sell this phone. Before you could go to an Apple store and outright buy the phone for the retail price, same for AT&T stores. Now, I wonder if you have to sign an agreement of some sort at purchase to qualify for the price, or if they will just sell you the device for $199 or whatever at the Apple store as well.I think there will be alot of specifics coming down the pipe in the next few days.
6/9/2008 3:10:59 PM
You never had to buy your way out of the contract before when you bough at iphone. In fact when I bought mine I signed a brand new 2 year contract right before I activated my iphone so I could get another phone free and re-sell it. I wouldn't be too worried about that. I'm beginning to think that current owners will be able to pony up the $199 for the "upgrade".
6/9/2008 3:11:39 PM
You guys not familiar w/ how GSM phone sales work? It's be $199/$299 for new signups, probably $200+ more for current users who only want the new phone & no extension of contract. You'll just buy if "off contract."
6/9/2008 3:13:11 PM
This is no doubt a subsidized price through AT&T, Apple would not cut prices in half for everyone unless they were getting something out of it.
6/9/2008 3:13:17 PM
If i can buy an 8gig iphone for 199$ and keep my contract i might actually consider buying an apple product. I was playing with my friends iphone last night and i like the flippy photo thingy.^dammit. [Edited on June 9, 2008 at 3:14 PM. Reason : .]
6/9/2008 3:14:18 PM
apple has to be the worst when it comes to dissapointing the consumer by releasing a newer version of something soon after a lot of people just bought it.that said, I am glad i waited 1 year for the 3g version
6/9/2008 3:15:11 PM
i really don't think so.
6/9/2008 3:16:04 PM
6/9/2008 3:18:05 PM
I'm asking my friend who works at an apple store about this issue. I doubt he'll know more than us, but maybe. Because 199$ w/o signing a new contract would sell me.^ok nvm. So it's probably 399$/499$ w/o the contract? [Edited on June 9, 2008 at 3:20 PM. Reason : .]
6/9/2008 3:20:14 PM
i'm not sure what you guys who already bought the first iPhone were expecting. For those people who bought it within days of the first release before the $200 drop, yeah, you guys have a right to feel ripped off, but you got your $100 credit. If you bought one before ~March 2008, what's your problem? Did you think that was going to be the last iPhone ever? If you bought one after March, when it was apparent the 3G iPhone was imminent, that's your own fault.Phone get updated. Apple, especially, updates their products on a pretty consistent time table. From what other company in the world would you expect a free or discounted upgrade just because a newer model came out 6-9 months after you bought yours?
6/9/2008 3:22:22 PM
^That's why I bought an iPod touch in october instead of an iPhone.
6/9/2008 3:24:35 PM
Perhaps the reason he didn't qualify the statement, is that there will be no iphones sold without new two year contracts at all?
6/9/2008 3:25:28 PM
So the 8 gig iphone is 199$ with a contract, but the 8 gig ipod touch is 299$? This seems weird.
6/9/2008 3:26:51 PM
I really suspect they will force you to sign a contract at sale, or no sale at all. That would totally remove the unlockersPLUS, why would they sell an 8gb ipod touch for $100 more if anyone could walk up and buy an iPhone 3G. That makes no sense.[Edited on June 9, 2008 at 3:35 PM. Reason : ladkals]
6/9/2008 3:30:19 PM
^yeah didn't think of that. Still no expansion port. Did they mention stereo bluetooth?
6/9/2008 3:37:49 PM
nope I was hoping for a front facing camera for video chat, but oh well.
6/9/2008 3:39:19 PM
i was really hoping they'd leave AT&T too, but that didn't happen.AT&T is the biggest factor in me not switching.
6/9/2008 3:41:17 PM
6/9/2008 3:48:32 PM
Ok, but those who think they are just gonna waltz in an pick up a new phone for $200 might be in for disappointment in early July
6/9/2008 3:51:18 PM
yeah i posted this in the other thread
6/9/2008 3:55:56 PM
so no word on anything new to do with ipods...or did i miss thatsomeone who is really into this tell me [/dnl]
6/9/2008 3:57:05 PM
Nothing new for iPods at this point, other than Apple is charging iPod Touch users $9.99 to upgrade to the 2.0 firmware.
6/9/2008 4:05:01 PM
wait for September for iPod news. Historically (except for last year and this year with the iPhone) they don't do much hardware announcements at the Developers Conference.
6/9/2008 4:07:37 PM
for those that follow, what are my chances of getting a > 80-100GB touch in sept...cost of SSD will still be too prohibitive?
6/9/2008 4:37:02 PM
64gb could be a (expensive) possibility, but any more than that I highly doubt it.
6/9/2008 4:41:04 PM
chances of that are 0. They're still charging $1000 to upgrade the macbook air to a 64GB SSD. Best case, i'd say, would be to increase the line from 8, 16, 32GB to 16, 32, 64GB. Even that seems a bit lofty to me..... i'd just look for a significant price drop on the current models
6/9/2008 4:41:16 PM
since this is still officially the WWDC thread, here is some info on something other than the iPhone. Here's MobileMehttp://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/06/09/apple_introduces_mobileme_push_internet_service.htmlit looks like they're taking AJAX apps to the next level hereand Snow Leopard is official now. OS X 10.6 in 2009, but no major features....http://www.tuaw.com/2008/06/09/apple-posts-details-about-snow-leopard/
