^^Actually it was directed at nutsmackr Enough of this bullshit though. Moron, do you think Iran is a "essentially a democracy", as you put it? Or do you simply think that the people there would like for it to be a democracy? They are not the same thing.[Edited on June 6, 2008 at 2:48 PM. Reason : 2]

if i may speak for him, i think he's saying that many of them are on our side and are pushing towards more democracy.

democracy =! civil liberties.

Democracy = Unelected Supreme Court

Leave it to a liberal to try and argue that Iran is democratic.

Aaahh, yes, I've seen the light now. All that time when we thought the USSR was communist, they were really a democracy because they held elections for their dictators. So what those guys got 99% of the vote.BRILLIANT!
6/6/2008 3:10:58 PM
6/6/2008 3:12:41 PM
Fuck, what are we talking about here. Back to the topic. I would switch from "undecided" to "McCain" if Obama continues to push his massive spending proposals, and cannot articulate how we are going to pay for them. As it stands, I expect a strong pivot to the center, with less of an emphasis on government spending and more on his differences with Bush, and by extension McCain.

^^Yeah, I think we're both missing the point and derailing the thread. Back on topic, the fervor of Obama supporters compared to the lukewarm reception that McCain gets is one of the biggest factors in this election. I can't see any scenario where McCain "steals" a significant portion of current Obama supporters, unless the race becomes extremely racially polarized. Therefore, McCain's best bet is probably to hold on to his supporters as best he can, try to snag some independents, and hope for the best.[Edited on June 6, 2008 at 3:20 PM. Reason : 2]
6/6/2008 3:20:21 PM
^no...you just stated ithis best bet is to make it racially polarizedduh...and, the RNC is going to do just that
6/6/2008 3:29:02 PM
6/6/2008 3:39:22 PM
^^We'll see. That strategy could backfire and haunt them for years. Decades even.People don't forget dirty tricks in politics. The Republicans already have a bad name in that regard, and trying to "Jesse Helms" this election would sacrifice the party's political future. I can see a few crazies on the right making racist remarks and trying to stir the pot, but I doubt you'll see a concerted effort on the part of the RNC to make this election all about race. Maybe a little subversive innuendo and associations with controversial black leaders, but that's mostly fair game. [Edited on June 6, 2008 at 3:41 PM. Reason : 2]

Nastoute, Yah!! The Republicans are so mean and nasty. We Democrats are so much smarter!Remember when they accused John Kerry of relentless flipflopping, taking quotes out of context or on trivial issues? Man that really made me mad! Those Repubs....oh looks like the Dems are the ones doing it this year. http://www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com/archives/9111.htmlhttp://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/05/20/obama-mccain-flip-flopping-on-cubaWell, um, do you remember in 2004 when the RNC made big deal about John Kerry's rich heiress wife? Like that even matters?!?! Man I can't believe some people would...oh looks like the DNC is doing that too.http://www.democrats.org/a/2008/05/cindy_mccain_at.phpWell, remember in 2000 when the Republicans didn't so much run against Gore, but instead focused on his less popular predecessor? Man, why can't the Republicans run against the candidate they're actually facing....oh wait.http://www.bush-mccainchallenge.com/http://marcambinder.theatlantic.com/archives/2008/05/obama_bushmccain_have_a_lot_to.phpWell, WELL, at least we don't elect candidates that don't parse their words to misdirect voters!Right!??http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/03/28/834887.aspxOH FUCK IT![Edited on June 6, 2008 at 3:53 PM. why are you posting stuff like thisyou don't really care about peoples answers do you?you just want to try and refute...why did you make this thread?....and to answer... politics is politicsI'm just making the prediction that the RNC is going to stoop as low as we think they will and start to push the race issue hardto be fair the democrats are probably going to do the same but it's a little different because they're going to push the positive (omg, won't it be cool to have a black president)while the RNC is going to push the negative (black president = scary jesse and al!)[Edited on June 6, 2008 at 3:58 PM. Socks, what are you even on about? Both parties are doing that shit, it's just the nature of politics. For every "Cindy McCain is a lobbyist" from somebody like nastoute there's a "Michelle Obama is a nigger" from a Rat. There's a thread on the first page of this very message board called "Obama Flip Flops." You can't really play the victim card on this one.

how the fuck are you characterizing me?i am a democrat but if it wasn't for the religious right (I know mccain has nothing to do with that... but still) I would probably be registered republicani'm just tired of our country being "at war"you know, that's not a bad thingi'm sick of being the world's police force and bullyi want us to go back to our isolationist stance and stop fucking with the world and it's petty problems[Edited on June 6, 2008 at 4:47 PM.
