haha delaware. it takes 20 minutes to cross the state, amirite?
5/20/2008 8:28:02 PM
we hold strong to 9 exits on 95 (but that kinda only clips the top part)
5/20/2008 8:32:45 PM
yeaisn't State Route 1 a toll road for part of its length?

^seriously. You have to pay around $5 one way to drive through Maryland, and at least $3 to drive through Delaware as well. Not to mention the tolls for a tunnel in Baltimore (Ft. McHenry or Harbor tunnel, take your pick) and the Delaware Memorial Bridge. Or if for some reason you want to avoid I-295 and take I-95 through Philly then you'll pay to cross the Ben Franklin Bridge. Strange how that one guy missed all these tolls

some toll roads will already write you a ticket if you average over the speed limit

^^ Actually it's in the Turnpike Authority's agreement that they are required by the State of NC to remove tolls once it's paid for. And you know there are people out there that watch government like they have nothing better to do with their lives.[Edited on May 21, 2008 at 12:27 AM. Reason : -]

OK I didn't know. I thought there was some stipulation that federal funds paid for highways.

Would building a monorail be that much more expensive than carving another road through the countryside?

Here's an interesting onethey're considering outsourcing run and maintain of the Penn Turnpike to a Spanish management company
5/21/2008 8:14:50 AM
I heard about that on NPR the other day. I know people in Chicago were pissed when they sold off their toll roads.
5/21/2008 8:20:01 AM
doesn't china own/operate a lot of our roads? i've heard that, but not sure about the source.
5/21/2008 8:23:52 AM
Not sure about highways but I know China owns a lot of our seaports.

the operators arent happy, they think that their union contracts wont be upheld for pay and job stabilitythe state however thinks that it'd be great, with the lump sum up front for construction/repairsI dont really care, I only use the penna pike like twice a year

Why can't we just make I95 a toll road and use the money to pay for 540.
5/21/2008 12:36:19 PM
because that road is already built and paidtolls in this state will only go on new roads
5/21/2008 12:39:45 PM
which puts this state at a disadvantage.just like we were at a disadvantage when we didn't have the lottery.
