Wow, I can't believe how many people are so against something like this. What did dogs ever do to you?

People aren't going to take their dogs out unless their dogs know how to behave. There is nothing wrong with taking a dog wherever you go if its allowed by the location/store/restaurant/hotel, etc. Most people spend all day at work away from their dog so if they're going out at night for dinner or a drink they'd like to take their dog along. I've taken my dog on the subway (which technically you shouldn't) and no matter how crowded it is I've gotten nothing but smiles and compliments from people.

I try to take my dog out with me all the time if it'll work out. In fact when my dog turned 1 year old last summer I took him out to the bar to celebrate! (see pic below). He's not a fan of alcohol, though he loved the dog biscuits the barback kept giving him. And did the taxi driver on the way home mind? No.

btw I'm aware I look like a tool in this pic.

awwww
i love him!

my problem with carter...she likes people a little too much.
which is why, for now, i try to keep her in a bar setting, where people wont mind her whole butt wagging if they come to pet her.

however she has calmed down quite a bit.

and now that its warm im going to definitely take her out more often.

Moonlight is great, and the last time I was there, there were 2 or 3 dogs there already.

I see dogs fairly regularly outside at The Borough, too.

Maybe Lilly's Pizza too, but people fly up the street trying to make the light, so I'm hesitant to take my dog there.

Thanks for the suggestions!

My wife and I were on the way back from the dog park and were thinking we wanted to go out for dinner and didn't want to have to come home to put the dog up. We'll try moonlight next time we're hungry.

i think taking a dog with you to sit on a patio type place is pretty normal??? i guess apparently its offensive. i've just never given that much thought to it. all the dogs i've seen at like the draft house, etc are usually tired from a walk/play and they're just chilling with a bowl of water. they aren't like running around trying to eat peoples food. i mean most places like that are bar style places anyway--it isn't like they are that classy. people used to bring their dogs and sit outside at woody's all the time because they'd just be downtown walking around with the dog. but on a nice day it seems normal to go grab some lunch or a few drinks and let your dog sit outside w/ you.

I take my dog Bailey to work every day

I'm an animal science teacher and after the first few days my students think nothing of it. Bailey curls up in a chair or flops on the floor once class starts but will play fetch/tug when there is down time. It's great! I love having him there.

I've taken him to restaurants a few times and he's been in a few bars. Bailey is exceptionally well behaved and nothing bothers him.
My other two dogs are a different story....

I'd much rather be at a restaurant surrounded by people's pets than all the fucking obese people that haven't died yet.

Delta and Tank are a little upset when the bank is out (or we're at a random one that doesn't have snacks)... they've been known to drool and give dirty looks.

I've never been to an outdoor seating place around here without seeing a dog during sunny season. It's quite common in larger cities and I've never seen anyone even bat an eye at it... I'm actually pretty surprised at how many people seem appalled by it on here.

I'll definitely bring a dog out when I get one if it's a place that is casual and has outdoor seating... and I agree with bobbydigital. A fat fuck stuffing his face with enough food for 3 is far more offensive than a well behaved dog sitting down under the table not bothering anyone...

I do get offended all the time by whiny ass fucks that have this sense of entitlement and absolutley no regard for anyone around them. As long as your self centered ass is content, thats all that matters right?

And I hate fat people as much as the next person, but I think there should be a line drawn when it comes to the public patronizing a restaurant, whether indoors or out. Everyone else pays just as much as you to eat there, why do you feel like its your right to bring your dirty ass dog thats shedding hair everywhere, drooling, panting, and staring at the next person trying to eat their meal?

Again, absolute disregard for everyone and everything around you.

Maybe those people can't stand it when dog owners don't train or discipline their animals to behave and expect everyone to think they're cute and adorable when they misbehave.

Are you saying that if a dog goes bonkers when a 2 year old acts like a 2 year old, the problem is with the child? Give me a break.

DOGS ARE NOT PEOPLE. DOGS WERE BANNED FROM SCHENK FOREST FOR A REASON (STUPID OWNERS WHO LET THEM RUN AMOK AND CRAP EVERYWHERE).

Quote :
"Cox detailed various complaints he has received in the past few months, such as dog owners becoming belligerent when told to leash their animals and ignoring signs banning the presence of dogs when classes and other scheduled events are in session. He also raised concerns about general overuse of the forest."

http://www.raleigheconews.com/2005/03/conflict-over-dogs-threatens-public.html

If the average dog owner can't handle being responsible with their animal in the woods, why should they be allowed in a restaurant?

Quote :
"...only 23 percent of dog owners who visited the Schenck on weekdays complied with local leash laws, and that the number dropped to only 16 percent on weekends. "

Quote :
"In recent months, however, unleashed dogs had caused faculty and students to fear for their safety..."

"Besides sanitary concerns, other reasons pets are not welcome in restaurants are:

Allergies - many people are allergic to dog dander

Fleas and ticks - not all pet owners are conscientious about grooming their pets

Feces/Urine - Both accidents and dingleberries

Bites, barking, aggressive behavior - The establishment may be held
liable should dogs get into a fight and/or bite another patron. We
live in a litigious society.

Children - many children are afraid of dogs.

Space - blocking wait staff and other patrons

Dog/pet hair - Pet hair on food is unappetizing for most people.

Diseases - Ringworm, hookworm, staph infections, mites, salmonella, etc.
"

Quote :
"Diseases transmitted by dogs:

Salmonella:
“Humans and domestic or wild animals: poultry/eggs, swine, cattle and
rodents, and pets such as turtles, chicks, dogs and cats.” “Ingestion
of fecal material containing the bacteria via undercooked meats or
eggs, contaminated food or tableware, and untreated public water
supplies.”

Staph:
“Humans are the most common source, but cows, dogs and fowl also can
be a source. It is estimated that 40-50% of healthy adults carry
staph. bacteria in nasal passages, throat, hands and skin. These
bacteria also are found in infected cuts, boils, burns, abrasions and
pimples.”

“Fleas, lice, ticks and harvest mites are common ectoparasites of
dogs. Appropriate treatment must be carried out if they are found on
any of the dogs. When treating these infestations it is important to
take account of the life cycle of the parasite in order to achieve
maximum control or even eradication. For instance, simply killing the
adult flea is unlikely to provide adequate control.

Several mange mites affect dogs, including Demodey folliculorum,
Sarcoptes scabiei and Cheyletiella, all of which attack the skin and
Otodectes, which is most common seen in the ears. Any of these
infestations can cause severe illness in puppies and older dogs.
Some of these parasites can cause disease in humans.

Ringworm can be passed to humans. Early diagnosis and thorough
treatment is essential if the disease is to be controlled.”"

"When a fly lands on your food:
“First, because flies can’t eat solid food, they vomit on the food
to soften it.

Secondly, flies stamp the vomit into the food to make the whole
mixture runny. This makes the food easier for the fly to suck up. It
is not uncommon for the fly to drop some excrement into the food at
the same time.

Thirdly, now it is your turn to eat the food!!

So you see; fly control is important.”

Now, add to scenario, the fact that the fly had landed on a dog
dingleberry before landing on your food!"

^Yes, its true that humans carry more diseases that can infect other humans. But people and dogs are like apples and oranges.

WARNING: THIS IS ABOUT TO BE GROSS. Imagine if you were naked (rear ends and genials out in the open), didn't wipe your butt, spent lots of time walking barefoot outside (stepping in who knows what), sniffing other animals. Add to that a thick coat that is a perfect host for a variety of parasites. Then, quit showering for months at a time. Do I need to continue?

dogs' mouthes and humans' mouthes each have bacteria in them

however dogs' bacteria is "cleaner"

also for the people saying to be aware of other patrons, to not have some selfish sense of entitlement, etc...i would liken it to smoking...if a restaurant allows smoking, and you dont want to be around smoke, dont go there...bitching about the smoking policy is YOU acting like you have a sense of entitlement in SOMEBODY ELSE'S restaurant

course with dogs its not even that bad, because if you dont want a dog to stare at you or be around your food, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SIT INSIDE

or are you ENTITLED to be able to sit outside without being exposed to any dogs?

this my friends is the pussification of america.
should something catastrophic happen today.
i can pick out who won't make it.

but i also was a grew up really country and tomboyish.
i never cried when i saw a spider.
or a flea.

so i used to eat outside with my freaking pack of dogs.

actually one time, when i was four, a man ran into my yard and tried to grab me.
my dog bit the shit out of his leg and he ran off.
my mom happen to see him as he was running and i was crying.
dog chased him.
dog came back.
man never did.

one of the may reasons i love my pets.

like i said. they jump through hoops for you.

Why is there a Dingo chilling with you at the bar, Pat?

And I think Twista is on point with what he said... if you don't want to go somewhere that allows dogs outside, then you have that choice. As I said before, urban areas typically allow owners to bring their dogs to outside seating areas..

If there is a problem, 99 times out of 100 it's the dumbass owners fault and not the dog. I've never seen any problem in all the places that I've gone to. In California there are dogs at literally every outside seating restaraunt around..

^^haha, I know right Bryan? I've actually had a pedestrian interrupt me while I was on the phone walking my dog, yelling at me "is that a Dingo?!" About 50% of the people that talk to me about my dog think he's a fox. I've even had a cop car pull over and one of the cops ask me what kind of dog that is.

Its nice to get the attention

The only dogs that misbehave have owners that are to blame. Those owners usually don't care about their dogs enough to want to take them out with them anywhere. So while stantheman can continue to spout his BS its pretty obvious he has very little to stand on.

I see tons of badly behaving dogs in public on a regular basis. Most of their owners never scold them because they think they are always cute.

Which is why they aren't allowed to wait tables or cook. They aren't doing any damage by sitting on the patio.

im okay with dogs outside, just like im okay with smokers smoking in a designated area.

I will agree however, than while some of you are probably very responsable pet owners, not everyone is. Ive been at places where peoples dogs sit quiety under a table while they eat. And places wehre they strain at the leash and jump on the table.

One of these is acceptable, one of these is not. (just like children)
