meh, the worst instructor i've had in a long time is bill dupont- but at least he doesn't have it out for his students and try to punish them for his inability to convey knowledge in an interesting and effective manner. the class typically does insanely terrible on the exams but he curves it up to 80... unlike another member of the same department who can't teach and holds his students responsible for his shortcomings (ahem GreatGazoo)

^Vix.i really hope you arent talking about Austin from that Religion of Science course, cause that shit was one of the easiest a's i ever received. i mean, tests were ridiculous, but no attendance required, plus 70+ is an A. . . .

I had Orji in Fall '04 and dropped that shit...worst fucking professor ever
4/30/2008 7:22:50 AM
I had Orji fall '05 (the last semester he taught it). But the stuff was "Mickey Mouse" and you were "breaking his heart." Screw him. I have never been more proud to get an 88 in a class.

Zeng - MAE 301 - We got him, "Asked to leave".

the professor who teaches Philosophy of Science. What a cool topic that is never understood bc of the professor. I can't remember his name. Phi 340

^ Philosophy of Religion has an amazingly epic fail professor as well.

^ I don't think that there is a lack of thinking. I'm an Engineering Major, I just don't think in the way Philosophy or CHASS majors do. I think it is different styles of thinking. I have faired quite better (93 and above) in my other required philosophy classes (ethics and whatnot).

Yeah...Austin. I took it in 2001. He was terrible. I got the subject fine others did not...he just sucked at teaching. Now I hear every thing is online. That represents failure to me.[Edited on April 30, 2008 at 10:44 AM. Reason : ...]

FYI Orji was let go by the University at the end of the 2005-2006 school year, so he is no longer employed here.I used to grade for his class, and it was a bit sad how many kids bombed his tests. They were the most difficult of any of the Chem 101 tests for any professor that year, I looked at them all. Those grade distributions look about right. I never once gave a 100 on any of his exams, and A or A- was pretty much <10% of the classTo be fair though, he did ask some easy questions too that a ton of people got wrong. I think it was mainly due to most kids just giving up after bombing the first test, so they never tried down the road. Failure is a hard pill to swallow. He was a nice guy if you ever spoke with him outside of class. And his accent wasn't bad, I think people were over exaggerating to find reasons other than themselves why they performed poorly. If he had implemented a grading curve (he never curved) I don't think he would have been fired.Teaching is weird, kids need to learn the basics, but you can't fail everyone, so if 1/2 the class bombs an exam, you either have to curve it or risk getting fired. It makes college sound really dumb. We are just paying for a certificate.

^ Agree. Orji wasnt the worst teacher (fall 04), but his exams were horribly hard. I never really gave him much thought, since it was my first semester in college coming from Easy Street HS. I had a few other gems (petite german lady who mustve been into BSDM, fall 04 MA141) that made my first semester fairly hard. I did find his teaching quite a pain, but Ive had worse who still managed to teach better. And to the TA: yes he did curve quite a bit. I did my own grades after the final, and I should have made a D+ in the class. but the grades came in and I made a C+. And that was with taking into account all of his 55=85 crap after every test.I had one guy for calc 3 Fall of 05 (i think) that was absolutely horrible. He started the semester (in calculus 3 for christs sakes) talking about associative and communitive properties of math. Then I stopped paying attention for a week when he jumped to transforms, and all that other higher level math crap that engineers dont use as much later on. And then the class went south pretty hard and it was a struggle to pass. Oh, and he talked about meeting the Pope and about how melons made sense in calculus. I think he was from turkey or something like that.

Orji got fired in the first quarter of the semester when I had him. That was interesting.

1. Austin - Some of the worst "science" and "philosophy" I've ever seen. He's been worse for the university than the tailgating murderer IMO.2. Fauntleroy - The only F I got at State.3. Schwarz - Anal. The kind of guy that would call people out for leaving early. What is this, high school?

I was pretty sure I talked to Orji about curving grades and he made a comment about how he never curves. Maybe I misheard or he was just telling me that..oh well. He's gone. Kinda sucks after the curve still 50% failed the class. Probably was a shitty curve. He's still around campus though, i see him once or twice a semester. He started a custom organic synthesis company and he contracts out to local and national companies.
4/30/2008 12:47:04 PM
I was also in CH 101 with Orji the semester he got fired. He taught the class for about two weeks, so I didn't really get the full effect of how horrible he was. After I heard the horror stories, I was really glad that I got a new teacher. I'm terrible at chemistry anyway, so I don't need a terrible teacher on top of it.

I have heard bad things about Siewart and Silber both of the math department. In Siewart's class I had gotten a question wrong on an exam and the person beside me did the exact same work, with the same answer I had, though she received credit.Thinking my answer was incorrectly marked I brought my exam and hers up to him and asked if there was a mistake. He remarked that he should have not given her credit either as both of our answers were incorrect. At that point he lowered her score!
