i dont get why everyone is saying the college inn article was a "witch hunt"have any of yall actually ever been there or lived there???]

Yeah Deraney was placed on IR last year for the Lions, I guess he is still there. Hanson is old as shit, but I guess it doesn't matter at kicker.
4/30/2008 2:08:02 PM
Is A.J. Davis still with the Lions?

The N&blOw printed the story on the day the Red & White Game was being held. It was pretty obvious that they wanted to print something negative that recruits and their parents would read if they picked up a newspaper that day. The article states something about how The College Inn could get State athletics in trouble. The NCAA mandates that no living quarters owned by the school or booster organization can have more than 50% of the residents be student-athletes (why I don't know, it seems kind of stupid if you ask me). Well The College Inn, which is owned by The Wolfpack Club, is about 30% student-athletes, which is well below the 50% mandate. The N&blOw though prints that one floor is 41% student-athletes as to show that we are close to the limit. But that number is still well under 50%, so it's a much ado about nothing, but the way it's written is to make it sound like if we don't watch ourselves we could be on NCAA probation soon. While the article should be about these dorms/apartment complexes that are owned by the booster organizations, it focuses soley on NC State and how it could one day get us on probation. If it was a real article on these type of booster organization owned complexes then they would have talked about ones at other schools in the area like at Duke or UNC's Granville Towers which has a number of student-athletes. The only thing they had about another school was a small blurb at the end of the story about a complex at FSU which has 49% student-athletes.[Edited on April 30, 2008 at 2:22 PM. Reason : ]

^^^^I think people were upset that the N&O insinuated that NCSU was skirting NCAA rules, not that they pointed out that athletes live there (so what?).
4/30/2008 2:15:42 PM
he's trolling you^
4/30/2008 2:19:21 PM
no, he's just a dumbass
4/30/2008 2:23:06 PM
i bet none of yall nigs have ever even been on college inn property
4/30/2008 2:25:18 PM
i think you missed the entire point of the article and why everyone is bashing it
4/30/2008 2:36:45 PM
ok show me where i'm wrong...i'll bite...this is how i feel about it(and pretty much what i know based on this thread)1. news and observer starts investigating ncsu cause the college inn has a fuck ton of football and some basketball players, and prolly some baseball players(they do, i know at least 2)2. apparently there is 50 percent or less of the people at college inn are football/baseball/basketball players, so N&O say they didnt break the rulesnow how in the fuck does that make N&O the bad guy?
4/30/2008 2:50:15 PM
Because it's a non-story.BREAKING NEWSTHIS JUST INCOLLEGE INN IS LESS THAN 50% ATHLETESWHICH DOESN'T BREAK ANY RULESBUT IF THERE WERE MORE THAN 50% ATHLETESTHAT WOULD BREAK SOME RULESMAYBE
4/30/2008 2:53:06 PM
^^Because they imply in the article that NC State has done something wrong, or is about to, when in reality College Inn is just like other dorms/apartments all over. Why run a story about a non-story?Stop being obtuse. Hell, even my Carolina friend said it was a blatant troll by the N&O targeting NCSU.[Edited on April 30, 2008 at 2:57 PM. Reason : .]

BUT THEY DIDN'T. LET'S GO INVESTIGATE A CRIME SOMEONE IS NOT GOING TO COMMIT AND THEN REPORT WHEN THE PERSON DOESN'T COMMIT A CRIME.
4/30/2008 3:00:25 PM
NOT GUILTYN&O GOT TO FEEL ME
4/30/2008 3:01:18 PM
how the fuck are they going to know if we had broke the rules if they dont investigate???
4/30/2008 3:01:44 PM
4/30/2008 3:04:06 PM
Why didn't they investigate Duke and UNC as well? Why did they single out NCSU?
4/30/2008 3:04:16 PM
IIRC from a previous post, FSU and NC State are the only two schools with booster-ran/supported housing.
4/30/2008 3:05:56 PM
^^maybe they visited the college inn and were like "damn, maybe we should investigate this place"[Edited on April 30, 2008 at 3:10 PM. Reason : ^and that...plus i mean doesnt fl st kinda have a rep for bad players...]
4/30/2008 3:10:04 PM
This has nothing to do with "bad" players
4/30/2008 3:11:09 PM
^^^ Where did you find that? I find it hard to believe that tOSU, Texas, and some of the other big time schools don't have booster owned housing. The NCAA rule though applies to any kind of dorm/apartment complex owned by the university or affiliated with the university. I believe the rule started sometime at the end of the 70s or beginning of the 80s. A lot of colleges used to have athletic dorms back in the day that were exclusive to athletes.[Edited on April 30, 2008 at 3:12 PM. Reason : ]
4/30/2008 3:12:23 PM
maybe they came to the college inn and said "woah we need to investigate this place"maybe a student that was tired of all the fucking sports players acting like they run that place told the news and observer to investigate
4/30/2008 3:12:49 PM
^^i think he's referring to FSU/NCSU as the only schools in the ACC that do this
4/30/2008 3:16:05 PM
I did, sorry I left it out.
4/30/2008 3:27:03 PM
oh
4/30/2008 3:28:50 PM
4/30/2008 3:50:38 PM
and they arent owned by the booster club at UNC^thats why it was looked into in the first placeI still hate the fact it happened, but thats why.anyone heard about the whole UNC Obama fiasco?i emailed ESPN and got this back
4/30/2008 3:51:51 PM
not owned by a booster, but still private. lots of room for loopholes. should be 'investigated.'
4/30/2008 3:53:42 PM
ok i'll answer dabirds post in the order he told meok. so they investigated and found nothing. is that worth a story? i think so...i'd feel more assured if the paper was like we investigated and found no rules being broken, rather than just always wondering if it might have been breaking rules(cause if you woulda told me they broke the rules i woulda not been surprised)do you think they print everything they investigate and find no rules/laws broken on the front page of the relevant section with a huge picture and huge print?of course not of course not.if they had student quotes, they would have used them. thats a good point...but maybe the person didnt want to come off as someone that hates sports or the athletes....that person mighta got death threats if they had their name published...or might have been looked at as a narc or somethingwhy is there no corresponding story on Granville Towers were the whole UNC bball team lives? - oh yeah...i forgot...they are less than 50% (like college inn) making it perfectly ok. while they both have under 50 percent apparently, i bet ncsu is way closer to the 50 percent lineget it now? sure
4/30/2008 3:56:10 PM
4/30/2008 3:59:33 PM
College Inn is at ~30%.
4/30/2008 5:08:04 PM
but one wing is at like 40%!surely that's fit to print.
4/30/2008 5:10:07 PM
i wonder what percent afc is[Edited on April 30, 2008 at 9:38 PM. Reason : not as high as college inn...i'm gonna guess 7 percent]

Granville Towers is still affiliated with the university, despite it's private ownership. I'm sure they donate money to UNC so the owners would be considered boosters.
