This is why I don't want to be a parent. I had a stable upbringing and good values around me. But I went nuts. Other friends of mine from high school with the same background didnt. I wouldnt know what to do with my own child. On one hand you want to protect them, but on the other, kids try their damndest to rebel against anything you try to tell them. Also punchmonk that post is bittersweet because it makes my dormant idealism and hopeless romanticism bubble to the surface
4/14/2008 2:09:59 AM
is it dormant bc their is too much responsibility?I did not expect this from you The Judge.
4/14/2008 2:20:00 AM
what did I do?
4/14/2008 2:20:42 AM
yeah i'm really terrified of fucking up any kids that i have hopefully that will go away, or i can just turn it into making myself a better parent
4/14/2008 2:21:34 AM
srsly though its dormant because I'm a coward and hate putting myself out there after I had my heart broken. I went the weak route and became cynical instead of just trying to learn from the experience and looking forward. The fact that I recognize this does little to change my behavior for the better, rather, I fear the cynicism fuels some of my regretful decisionsI really relate this experience of mine to part of Hey JudeAnd any time you feel the pain, hey, Jude, refrainDon't carry the world upon your shouldersWell don't you know that its a fool who plays it coolBy making his world a little colderI'm that fool

a perfect example of how our generation is coddled to the point of ridiculousness by our parents.CUT THE DAMN CORD ALREADY.my parents said, "good luck, make good grades, dont do anything stupid"...kicked me out the door on their way to the beach. I havent lived at home since I graduated high school.
4/14/2008 8:07:01 AM
while I agree with some of their principle's, sounds like your parents are way over-controlling, obsessive, and clueless
4/14/2008 8:12:20 AM
now, how many did you break in the first hour, day, week?
4/14/2008 8:33:18 AM

i think the fact his parents had to explicitly state that operating system reinstallations were forbidden is a good indicator of how l33t qntmfred was/still is.also, this makes me feel strange... even my first year of college, i called home once every 2 weeks... if even that...]

4/14/2008 8:43:16 AM
the funny thing is, his parents are baby boomersand unless they're Mormons they probably had lots of premarital sex and did enough drugs to make Mick Jagger proud
4/14/2008 9:03:10 AM
4/14/2008 9:22:29 AM
okay sk8r boidamnit i revealed myself
4/14/2008 9:24:33 AM
no one could raise qntmfred right but momma tried, momma tried
4/14/2008 9:30:23 AM
nice "idea" but i hope you violated that contract at times, when was it supposed to expirei hope for your sake you acted like a card-carrying adult and experienced life, made mistakes, and learned from them, and became a better person for it
4/14/2008 9:32:40 AM
^ftw

My mom made driver contracts for my younger brother and sister when they first got their permits.I never had a "college contract" like this, but the PC part might've been good for me, since I deleted a TON of stuff (some of it important) off my 4GB computer to make room for Counter Strike V Oh it was definitely worth deleting a bunch of .dll files. I barely managed to squeeze that game onto my computer.[Edited on April 14, 2008 at 9:44 AM. Reason : SQUEEZIN']
4/14/2008 9:40:50 AM
lets be honest... it was worth it c'mon, counter strike.I would have deleted pron for that game

Mama tried to raise him better, but her pleadings were denied, that leaves only qntmfred to blame 'cause mama tried.
4/14/2008 9:50:25 AM
^^ hahai call my parents...they ask "what are you up to?"i say "eh, i'm in California" (or Canada...or whatever)i don't know, if you're in college and going on some major trip, i understand calling your parents and letting them know. if you're going to a Durham Bulls game, or even down to the beach for a day, i think it's silly to have to call for permission.

I would have expected this from some strict Christian parents but they are far from any religion especially Christianity.

I wish I could go back to being 18 I do so much shit differently. I guess thats the whole point of growing up though.
4/14/2008 1:14:26 PM
This is the stupidest shit I've ever seen in my life. Are they fucking serious?
4/14/2008 1:16:38 PM
ha. mine told me 2 things when I came here:1. If you drop out, you're getting a fucking job and not mooching off us.2. If some bitch comes to our door saying she's having your kid, the baby can stay but she's out the door.
4/14/2008 1:18:49 PM
paying for my own school sucks because it's expensivebut it's great because my parents can't tell me what to do!

i thought it was cute. my parents didnt have me sign a contract, but i did certainly get many conversations. hell if i tell my mom that i am going to a bar to hang out with some friends later in the evening these days she gets all "well be SAFE. you dont have to drink if you dont want too. nothing good happens after midnight!"also - when my mom dropped me off at college on the first day - she did say "of course i love you and i will support you, but you have until August 2004 to figure this stuff out and then i'm cutting you off"beat it by 2 months!
4/14/2008 2:14:57 PM
This level of control over a kid scares the crap out of me. My parents were perfectly happy to let me and my brother live with our mistakes without holding them over our heads forever. (However, considering my brother dropped out of school, technically, this only got them a 50% success rate.)There's a HUGE difference between actually making mature and responsible decisions, and just making decisions based on "My parents said so." Parents that want to keep their kids under their thumbs forever just don't get it.
4/14/2008 2:23:57 PM
Good lord that contract is ridiculous. Makes me appreciate how my mom raised me even more.
4/14/2008 3:01:56 PM
Are you morman?
4/14/2008 3:05:20 PM
4/14/2008 3:37:53 PM
mine trusted me.I did have some funny "what are you up to?" calls. Answering honestly from the beach, in the mountains, Chicago, NY, on a boat off shore, in charleston, beafort, anapolis, FL and other places were always fun to get a reaction. The shock quickly wore off.
4/14/2008 4:30:05 PM
That made me sad reading that...
4/14/2008 4:39:31 PM
wowi'm glad i didn't grow up with rents like that.

Yes, it may be a bit much, as others pointed out, but I am glad parents like that exist in the US.Sadly though, I don't think many are left, especially among today's generation having kids for the first time.
