the dingle berries on that forum obviously lack the basic common sense you do. lemme break it down:

1. you don't get 24mpg city. maybe off a cliff.

2. none of those people do either. notice the intelligent ones that actually resonded with city is XX.

3. the rest of them are throwing out retardness like mixed driving or my obc says... your huWHAAT??

please. accurate/useful/proven data or gtfo.

I do wonder why people think the OBC is gospel.

How hard is X= y / z ?

Most "performance VTEC" models aren't available with an automatic tranny, so there isn't much of a comparison

And while I've been getting shit gas mileage in NYC I've convinced myself it was the gasoline from the one station I kept using. I'll find out after 1-2 tanks at another station

i've checked the OBC with what i get at the pump and it has always been right, i use my odometer for other things so unless i write down mileage at fill ups the OBC is a lot easier than doing the math. i will try to remember to take pictures of mileage and gas pumps and show you that 24.8 is right. i really dont understand why that is so hard to believe, its not that good.

Update: I found a mileage log from a day i was driving my car checking on some things for work.
(Some interstate, mostly side roads around the itb area)
Total mileage:
113.4
Gas Used:
4.611

so unless my odometer is off, that looks right. it used to average around 21-22 until i got new tires and went with full synthetic oil.

in the city, it drops to 17-18 considering I get on it enough

"rolling down the hill in neutral (30 mph) my jeep still only says it gets 32 mpg inst. hahah"

Most Bosch controlled cars will shut the injectors completely off when the momentum of the vehicle is turning the engine over (decel/down hill). That means zero fuel consumption. Kind of neat if you're coming down a mountain.

As a data point, I used to get around 19mpg the way I drive in an e36 M3. I'm getting slightly lower in a 325i. Mid to high 20s on the highway for both. Compared to track mileage of around 5...

seriously, a VW with the 2.0 T and either 6 speed manual or DSG, they get great mileage (25 and 31) and have a good bit of power and drive great. You can get a jetta, golf, A4 or A3.

thinking seriously about a new/newer GTI since they seem to average 25ish in city driving...but still do 0-60 in 7 seconds or less. What other cars have those same characteristics?

it'd be pretty cool if there was a site you could look at mpg per 0-60 times or something like that. i've seen ones that look at $/mpg ratios, but i never saw ones that took performance into consideration

oh, and fwiw, the new GTI requires 93 oct. (technically 91) so if you're going for cheap commuter that should be considered.

synapse, where have you heard the GTI gets 25 in the city? What I've seen shows a rating of 22, of course real world ratings can differ.

well dannydigital has a 08 rabbit he's selling, and he said he averages 25 around town. And the GTI has a smaller engine than that, and I did some googling and people in forums say they get around 25 in theirs. And the Rabbit and GTI are rated for the same millage in the city.

Granted Raleigh is pretty mixed with 440/540 so I would expect actual "city" mpg around here to be greater than the EPA's numbers...

My golf is rated at 24/29. Its an 02 GLS with the 2.slow engine. I get low 30s (30-32) on the highway. Not sure about city.

Not a lot of fun to drive really. Not sure what the new 5-cylinders are rated at

I drove a GTI yesterday...definitely a fun car to drive, and it handles really nicely.

how ever i did notice that it was a little slow to get going...if you're rolling at 5mph and press the gas down about half way or so, there was a second or so where it would barely accelerate at all, then it would pick up nicely. is that whats called turbo lag? if so i thought the turbo lag was supposed to be "low" on the gti...

yes, that is lag. it should spool up somewhere around 2800-3k rpms

you can also pick up a lot of power and torque by simply getting a chip (i'm a unitronic dealer, and soon to be a revo dealer again). for that car they're ~$500-550 depending. you would be surprised at the difference it makes, everyone is.

yeah, technically.

uni claims to be undetectable by dealer scan tools, but it will be pretty obvious if they drive it.

if you have warranty stuff that needs to be done it can be removed (your vin is recorded on the initial flash)..

its really up to the service writer and/or the tech.. but i got connections, yo!

there are some known issues with the new GTIs and the 2.0t FSI engine.. some of the engine problems may have already been resolved, tho.

I have bought a 2000 maxima in Feb, put 20k on it since then. No problems, plenty of power, smooth and comfortable. 24 in the city and 28 on the highway (its a stick, i imagine autos a little heavier on the gas).

honday civic si vs mazdaspeed3...plz to weigh in

the mazda is dfnitely faster, but gets ~4 less mpg. but the civic has a amazing nav unit which has like 600 different voice commands...and it gets better reliability and gas mileage.

That's about what my 900 Turbo normally got. I'd normally average 28MPG with a severe lead foot. 55MPH cruising on a cool evening with the A/C off would net me 36MPG sometimes.

^ I'm pretty sure the new Civic Si requires premium whereas the hatch models they made a few years back did not. Just something to consider when you're figuring your fuel costs. I'd say Honda all the way though.

The Mazdaspeed 3 stomps the Civic Si in all performance categories. As far as gas mileage yes you'll do better with the Si, however if you go easy on the boost you should do just fine with the Mazda as well. It was mentioned that the Si takes premium, without looking I'd almost guarantee that the Mazda does as well.

If it were me I'd get the Mazda. I prefer its looks, it has better performance, and I could give two shits about some navigation package

i'd rather have the base models with their superior fuel economy and other operating costs.

i don't really give a shit which economy car is less slow...i'm more concerned about their, well, economy.

is there any reason not to drive a bike in the winter, save for the fact that it gets cold? any reason it can't sit outside in the cold, or should it be garaged during the winter?
